Battleground Perks Yearly Instead Of Per Expansion

I had battlegrounds perks when they were free upon release for buying packs.
Then when they changed to per expansion I never bought them because you literally get nothing but the ability to rent 2 more heros for a couple months. (Aka more fun & higher winrate)

Was thinking of what could be done to improve this.
The obvious thing is to add real value to battlegrounds perks ex. 1 pack per x wins up to a max of x packs. But they would never do that.

So the other thing I thought is how many more people would buy the battlegrounds pass if it was yearly. I know I would suck up the loss of value for a year of perks.

The other thing to remember is Battlegrounds and duels are mostly meant to pull people into the gacha of buying packs. So could they get higher player retention with longer battlegrounds perks? Its worth a thought.

TL;DR Would you be more likely to buy the battlegrounds perks if they were longer duration.

Notes to future commentors:

  1. I know it will never happen and don’t expect blizzard to implement these changes.
  2. I know it wouldn’t make as much money.
  3. I know blizzard is greedy, blah, blah, expensive commodity, blah blah…

There was a similar discussion some time ago. My TL;DR is basically that as long as I don’t have the option to permanently unlock it (even if it is for a much higher sum of gold), I wouldn’t buy it.

Balance changes of BGs can make the mode really enjoyable to unfun in just a moment, so I don’t have any assurance that I would fully benefit from buying it if one change can make me avoid playing BGs.

Moreover, the perks only really help you in climbing and save up a few seconds. If you don’t like the heroes you get, just concede and queue again. This will have negative impact on your score, but outside of that you have nothing to lose.

It makes sense for the BG Perks to line up with the Reward Track cycles. If you play BG enough with the Perks, you probably get plenty of gold to buy the next season’s BG Perks. The price tag for a full year of BG Perks would probably scare away casual players even if they could pay for it with gold.

Exactly, even if not directly linked to get packs, BG only players have to commit to the mode and some daily quests to sustain getting seasonal perks for free.

It’s interesting to have a game with separate games within, I think it’s honestly bad design though. It makes it harder for them to charge for aspects of their game, what I think they really need to do is actually have a separate currency for battlegrounds, bring the daily quests back to the card collection modes. You have people exploiting AFK battlegrounds, you kind of have to because you get quests for it. So if we identify that battlegrounds rewards are not very good and we see that as a problem, then having a separate currency and some sort of things you can actually buy within battlegrounds mode then everything is perfectly fixed. It’s probably not a problem like this if people saw it as another side mode, but in reality there are more people playing battlegrounds than the actual game. Like if you see spending 1500 gold from the main mode on a side mode as an issue, whereas other people just do it because it is their main mode, then you alienate others from playing it anyway.

I’d buy yearly maybe but not at a higher price.

I honestly feel it should be like it was on release where you buy some packs and it unlocks. I have not even played bg since they decided to charge each season because it doesn’t feel like I’m playing on a level playing ground unless I pay up which pisses me off in a special kind of way.

No, you don’t. From the get go your argument is flawed. “Giving the perks for longer would mean they have to increase the price!”. They don’t. The only reason the system as is exists, is to maximize their profits. Even as they lost nearly a third of their player base across all games, they still managed to increase profits, for now.

Battlegrounds is popular, as far as I know. Activision Blizzard is a company that wants money. Why would they lower the cost for players now?
