Im a player that mostly plays just for fun now and then, and are sitting at aprox 5500 rating atm. Didnt play in a couple months but got back at 4500+ rating a couple days ago.
And allready i dont find Battleground any fun anymore.
The only way it seems to be “fun to be had” going forward, is to read up on builds for every hero and do all the research on the tribes/quests to slowly improve builds.
That said, this isnt fun, its work. (imo)
As it stands now, most lobbys im in, are over at round 10-12 where one or several of the players have taken advantage of known tactics to snowball their tribe to victory.
So you play until you hit the “rating wall” then you get matched up with several people every lobby that run away with the game. You cant even develop your tribes, and/or experiment anything anymore because by turn 10 the game is usually over.
I understand the need for skill based MM, but why is it that so many obviously more skilled players are in my lobbies all of a sudden?
And all MM statistics are hidden for this obvious reason.
You seriously need to change the MM matchmaker to make it more FUN.
Its a game right?
Rating floors. People smurf because it’s even worse at 6.5k. You’re moving into that band of try hards that smurf because they aren’t actually good at the game.
So your saying they are dumping rating on purpose to stay below certain floors?
Wow, that sucks.
They cant cope with higher rating, and we cant cope with them.
While I agree BGs aren’t at their best right now, I have to say it sounds more like you don’t want to put in the time to get to know the meta like anything else. While I’ll say the meta currently feels like “High roll or lose”, it is still something to know which minions are good.
As I understand where you are coming from the mode is too far down the RNG road for you to really play with Strat or planning. you just have to take what you’re given and hope you highroll to win. That’s the only way the mode works now, you can play the best game and make the best decisions but there is always the high roller that is going to win.
There’s something quite sinister happening at the rank floor of 4500 and I’m not sure what it is exactly, but I have a hunch.
I haven’t played BGs in months and I climbed back to 4500 after previously being at 7000.
As soon as I hit 4500 rank floor, the players immediately got tremendously better. As in, they were doing combos and had knowledge of building things that you’d see in the 13k rating range. I got 7th and 8th place a solid 12 games in a row. I could not figure out what the heck was happening. Did I suddenly just hit a rank floor that matches my MMR or something? Was I THAT bad? Every game was a blow out.
Then, after those 12 games, I finally ended up getting 1st with a combo you just couldn’t beat. I finally got lucky and landed it. I gained 258 MMR. That immediately put me into another game that was at 4750 MMR area and I got 2nd there no problem. Hit 5000 floor and have just been breezing since then. NOTHING was like how hard that 4500 rank floor was. It made no sense.
My hunch is that people are tanking their MMR on purpose to stay at 4500 rank floor so they can stream/dominate people for fun with broken combos because they know people at those rank floors don’t know the broken combos people are playing at much higher ranks. So they win in devastating fashion, purposefully leave the lobby in the next game to tank back down to the 4500 floor, and then destroy people again.
In short, I believe 4500 rank floor is swarming with smurfs.
When I hit 6500 before, it was the same issue. I could not get over 7000 and was constantly shoved down to 6500. 6500 floor is swarming with insanely good players that really should be in the 9k+ area.
The simpler explanation is that you are matched by an internal MMR rather than visual MMR.
They won’t be the same until you get closer to the top, as a way to prevent smurfing in any real sense.
But all they are doing is getting matched to people like you climbing past that bracket, making it feel awful.
But more importantly, at any competent ranking the game sucks right now. It’s just high roll city and if you aren’t scaling hard by turn 8 or 9, you are two losses in a row from death. There’s no comeback and no real chance to pivot off a midrange strat and top three or win.
I don’t believe this to be the case. I believe you are matched based on your visual MMR to other people on their visual MMR. That would explain why rank floors are brutal and as soon as you advance up to a HIGHER MMR than the rank floor, it gets easier. The opposite should be true.
I believe we spotted a BG streamer in my game yesterday that was in my game at the 4500 level.
Meanwhile, external rating plays no role in the matchmaking process. Therefore, it is possible a player with 7000 external rating is in the same game as a player with 1000 external rating, if their internal rating values are close. If you see a player with 0 rating in a high level Battlegrounds game, it’s because they have a high internal rating and are likely just getting started with the Battlegrounds season!
Edit: I have seen no blue posts or dev updates to contradict that information, but if anyone has some, I am open to being wrong.
I suppose if you’re seeing players that are just way above your skill level, stop playing and play another time. You could just be playing at a time where they are the only thing close to your MMR.
The quests add a large degree of difficulty to the game ATM because certain heroes and tribes can exploit specific quests. So if you get matched correctly in a lobby that doesn’t it’s no contest without a scam build. It’s naturally just making the game more difficult for new and returning players.
The other problem is that right now we are in a rush meta. That means you better be going to tier 6 ASAP or you fall behind. It’s not uncommon to see 1-2 players in a top lobby in Tier 6 on turn 8. They just used their armor to hide behind because players were too busy trying to finish quests and not playing optimally to punish those types of plays.
Divine Shield is completely out of control. There is very little counter play to DS and in some lobbies that counter play just doesn’t exist because of missing tribes. At the very least remove a garbage generic minion and give players access to a minion that counters DS or is a cleave.
still top 5% or so, still I have bounced against 6500 a few times this season and I feel I am trash, so I guess welcome to the club.
you do realise all that they would do is hide the mmr. it would still be present.
Generally the first couple of days after reset the player skill level is higher.
But I have been losing rating, part of it deliberately as I am not clinging to favourite desk to keep my rating high but instead trying new things and different quests and builds which often fails hard. Last night I moved to 6 as fast as I could without selling minions and my last t5 he had 1 t6 minion my first t6 he had 2 t6 minions, maybe they both used accelerator quests but that seemed a bit meh when I tried it. but from first to dead In 2 turns.
Maybe it is just the Event that is forcing a ton of people to play right now that are decent at the mode. I was surprised to be doing quite well frequently even though I haven’t played it since it was disconnected from card/gold reward. Each of those mainline quests after the first one seems to take 3-4 games to complete. The good news is I, and probably others who ground it out just for the card packs, finished it. I won’t be back.
game is rigged by algorithm. Since BG overhaul i was sitting at 5k, then slowly going to 6k, most of times finishing 7-8 place and losing like 10 times in a row a lot of times.
Once quests were introduced i easily got 7k and still climbing.
It is not about skill. It is about algorithm that provides you exact minions you need. It must keep you addicted.
p.s. last time i said it is algorithm, my topic was deleted. So, you know… what is happening.
Noone is doing this. Go to 4500 and then stay at that rank by conceding every other game to stay there. It makes zero sense no matter what your perspective is.
Its not happening and definitely not to the extend that you get 12 such lobbys in a row.
The explanations people come up with, just to keep their notion of everything related to matchmaking beeing normal, its hilarious and stupid at the same time.
If something apears to be fishy then it most likely is fishy.
That is far more likely then there beeing a big group of players with 7k+ skill sitting at 4500 to crush newbees. And resigning every other game to stay there.
You dont know any player who does this,i dont know any player who does this. Simply because there is virtually zero players who do this.
I dont think your story has to be fishy btw, there is other logical explanation.
