This is true and it’s directly tied to the missing seasonal mechanic. Without that mechanic to add another layer of choice you are basically racing to tier 4/5. Compound that with the Damage cap change that actively encourages tier racing and you have the BG meta we have right now. It’s just not very interesting.
Another minion to add to your list is Holy Mechrel. If you get one or even two it’s basically GG for the rest of the lobby if you are already doing DS mechs. There’s only a few ways to counter them and even then it’s not guaranteed.
The game sucks now. The high roll potential is insane. Most games have multiple players being killed off in turns 8-9, even with their pathetic attempt to balance by just reducing damage by 10 early on. They fixed nothing. It’s not fun anymore. There are no new mechanics, only extreme highs, and extreme lows. No balance, no fun. Devs are lazy.
You’ve never seen beetles spawn at 1k+ stats, lol. It’s just much harder to have good scaling in your gems compared to previous metas. While you may get a full board of 500/500 quilboars, I can make a board of bigger beetles several times over.
Ive never seen them get that high thats true. Ive seen 500 before with both brann and baron, but getting both of those very early is pretty unreliable. Feels like everyone tries to go beetles which makes it hard to get the necessary units.
You get a rylak and a beetle in the same shop and you explore it as an option or you pass on it.
You have to get parts before you start a build, not after you decide what you think would be cool.
I don’t go beetles without the basic beetle parts - rylak, bird, and beetlecry. You can add to that actively or passively, but you should have some other beefy units already that can hold you a turn or two to see what happens.
Edit: Rylak is the most important part because you can use it for other things if bob doesn’t cooperate.
100% this. I got first place last night with beetles against a board of boars where the smallest boar was around 700/700. And it’s not just ‘bigger’ beetles, it’s that you get several of them each combat. 12+ 700/700 beetles > 7 700/700 boars no matter what.
A few times I’ve seen boar or naga builds that run a super buffed Straight Shot to remove taunt/reborn from Rylak and hopefully nail Rivendare, I don’t know if that’s a good idea or not (I haven’t personally tried it).
cleaves are the best rylak stomper but yeah; I think “going beetles” is a thing. grab the t1 taunt beetle, grab the t2 garbage, then hope for the t3 b cry and t4 rylak and t5 riven and brann…But, abandon ship asap if that card doesnt roll early because there will be at least half of the lobby that will by the cars as soon as they see them and instead of a nasty beetle board you get 8th place.
Late match beetles get huge. You’re going (or taking) face for maybe 9 or 10 damage max each round because the tokens only count for one damage each. So tons of scaling because the games take forever to finish.
It’s definitely a late game thing but if you get a Reborn Rhylak with a Maccaw it’s a good start. Getting a Brann and a Titus makes it crazy or if you grab Moira off a Wisdomball. An early Goldrinn with Titus can also be a huge difference if you aren’t getting the right beetle buffs early.
Small in die company that works with kids and new players.
BG new season is just AI or someone playing beast tribe with unbelievable RNG on their deck.
I dont mean repeatedly refreshing the shop looking for a specific tribe early in the match like a noob, I mean pretty much every single player in the lobby grabs rylak, brann and baron because they are excellent units for many builds. Even if players arent using them, sometimes they will buy those units just to deny others.
At a certain point you have to commit to a build so if its midgame and you already have several key minons and you are stabilized you may decide to “go” beetles and actively look for specific units unless a very good opportunity to pivot presents itself.
I mean what percentage of games do you actually end up with 1000+ beetles?
