A few minutes ago i noticed that my BattleTag was different. My original was CoNsTaNtInE #2xxx and now i have a GarnetHawk #2xxxx…
I’ve already opened a ticket but wtf happened? It can’t be a hack, right? I have my mobile number and everything. I haven’t noticed anything different until now.
Any ideas?
Somebody else had this happen to them, but they were using a Pokemon name that was probably a copyright violation. I can’t imagine DC comics having a copyright on the name “Constantine”, but maybe Blizz are playing it safe?
Your got name reported and it changed your username.
You should be able to get one change for free - approved by a support person directly in a ticket.
If this is what really happened, then blizzard review team has literally 0 real people to verify reports; which wouldn’t be surprising at all, considering the support service usually tells to people to ask their questions in this forum (as if we know the answer they don’t know)
I’ve made this account some time before naxx’ release. So its kinda old. Also I’ve never changed my battletag. Plus, this is my actual name.

go to your security menu to check for log activity you dont recognize
from there you can log out from all devices too maybe you used a friend or a cousin device to play and forgot to log out and they thought it would be funny to change your name…it can happen

Boreas: I really don’t think there was a hack. If i login with anything besides my phone I’ll get an email or an sms. For instance, if i use my pc I’ll get an email, cause i haven’t used it for a while.

I haven’t read the replies but the only 2 ways I can think of was a hack or more likely someone reported you and it was auto changed
You must have won games and were probably reported by a sore loser.

These last 2 months i stay at rank 5. Almost 2 years before that i was reaching legend both standard and wild. I don’t get it.
Well, just to be clear, even if your name wasn’t violating anything it doesn’t mean it can’t be reported and auto changed. Blizz doesn’t moderate, they have it set up so the players moderate themselves.
Take this forum for example. Several regular posters use multiple accounts to give themselves more power. I reported one myself (and the ticket response confirmed it). So people who desire can get posts and people they don’t like banned, make themselves look more upvoted then would be or hide posts they disagree with. It’s reddit tactics.
When your ticket goes through they will answer but my guess is you were reported with someone using multiple accounts and it auto changed it.
Ok. Just checked the support article about the free battletag change, cause i thought maybe that free change was for a certain period. Well…
““Each Battle.net account is allowed one free BattleTag change. To change your BattleTag, log in to your [Battle.net Account Details] and click Update in the BattleTag section. My battletag is/was the same from 2014 or so. Support could see this. Also, what happened to my free change. As i said, i’ve never used it.
Even if i got reported, i don’t think they would have used my free change.
Unless, if blizzard did it. Some kind of business decision to force old-“not in forum” accounts to pay 10€ to keep their original battletags… {removing tin foil hat}…
Blizz didn’t do it just to make you pay, I can promise that. They are not some angelic company but they won’t do that. That is blatant.

My guess, and I emphasize guess is that you were hacked if the freebie was used. they may have tried to get your account. Let us know what Blizz says. I will be interested in hearing.
