14 buffs, 2 nerfs. I guess they’re going full send on power creep. Let’s see how that works out for them…
I would not be afraid of that too much as most of the buffed cards will remain a meme unless they do another Edwin faux pas. I doubt Rycleaver will suddenly become a competitive card.
the worst that could happen with ryecleaver is that it becomes yet another zilliax delivery system. At this point i don’t care if ryecleaver becomes a successful card or not becomes it does not change how the warrior class plays. It’s just more of the same big minion warrior.
There is no threat of that. Warrior already has a way to play ZIlliax for cheap which is cheaper and is more reliable. Unkilliax Warrior is not playing Ryecleaver.
The power level of standard is already outrageous. How is buffing cards going to curb that? Clearly they do not see a healthy power level to be a priority and are just taking the easy road of balancing around the power creep.
a nerf…that INCREASED the card/deck win rate ?
Context of how something is played is important.
The increase was simply king Tide turns getting more warping. You can observe that by looking it’s winrate increasing together.
The card itself is worse and anyone calling 2 extra mana for one more water elemental a buff should get ALL their cards “buffed” to 10 mana in the same way for a year to see how good It is.
cards get nerfed "in context " why not buffed ?
Because you can call anything a buff a never refund anyone again with that practice.
My card is getting a nerf from 1 to 2. Is it nerf?
Blizzard: No. We’re buffing even decks.
This is why buffs and nerfs can’t be contextual and that above is just an example before you talk about that mechanic not being in standard anymore.
In fact during ping mage standard time there was even an argument about Wildfire buff from 2 to 1 mana being a nerf to wild even ping mage that was decent during the time.
By that LINE of thinking of yours Wildfire still wanting refunding UP to nowadays.
So yes. Decide what is a buff and what is a nerf without consider other cards has precedent and a precedent used to not refund a card during said time.
are you forgetting they made the efferct stronger too?
are you really trying to tell me if they changed wildfire to "deals 2 more damage "
and changed the mana cost to 2
you would call it a nerf ???
you are too fixated on the mana cost
Not that time.
That buff was later If i remember correctly.
In fact they changed the ping mage package a Lot and changed more than a card or two.
Honestly, after playing with it, I don’t see how it wasn’t a buff.
Having 4 elementals compared to 3 is a big deal. You almost never actually spend 10 on it, and even when you do, it doesn’t feel awful to do so.
At 10 it also goes off after sunset volley in an orb, so the board is most likely to be cleared before the elementals spawn.
Even at 8, this card cost your whole turn to use, I’d rather get the added elemental with it. Waiting 1 extra turn after a watercolor artist draw on it is well worth it for the added elemental.
I just wish Mage’s early game was cohesive to have something good prior to tsunami.
While not perfect.
There are Minions to help you set your turn 3 such as babbling book and whatever the 2 mana that draw a card is.
Draw an extra card or generating a random big spell Very often saves my early.
Ah, the dream that has consistently evaded this old boy.
Team 5 won’t ever give straight forward tempo back to mage, will they?
They actually did have a deck that sort of played like that before the last changes to Lamplighter and Tsunami. You would play the early elemental curve into Artist to draw the Tsunami so you could play it mid game and then Lamp to finish off the game. It was a really smooth and solid curve.
The problem now is that the Artist on curve still doesn’t get you the tsunami play fast enough and it’s a bit awkward. Hopefully after these new changes we can put together something new that curves better.
2x Vicious Slitherspear
1x Raylla Sand Sculptor
Congratualtions, you’re good to go
Neither of these go well with a deck that wants to cheat out big spells like tsunami. They have a lot more synergy with small spells
That’s true, but every decent deck has multiple standalone packages. You don’t go full elemental, or full this or full that, you go mixed, to help you adjust to differences in games
This is a good early game package for Mage, and you don’t need much for it (2 lowcost pally spells which triple)
P.S. I think I saw someone mention Kalecgos - if you really have Kalecgos in deck, trust me when I say that you have a lot of room to improve xD
How I wish she weren’t just a bargain bin Dorian.
Right now I’m waiting to see what tomorrow’s patch looks like. Watercolor going to 3 would help a good deal.
Right now the good package for big spells seems to be
2x watercolor artist
1x King Tide
1x Kalecgos
2x Tsunami
2x Sunset volley
2x Star Power
1x Projection orb
That package is really solid for mid to late game power.
The question is more about what to do with the rest of the turns.
Edit: don’t knock kalec, he has done some major work in the deck.
