A new Arena season started on Tuesday, which includes the following sets:
- Into the Emerald Dream (including the Embers of the World Tree Mini-Set, even before it releases, and the Fleeing Treant Arena-only card)
- Showdown in the Badlands
- Voyage to the Sunken City
- Forged in the Barrens
- Scholomance Academy
- Core
I glanced over the card pools for each class, and I liked what I saw for Mage and Priest. Perhaps, Imbue will carry Shaman as well and maybe even Druid, but I have had only terrible drafts with those two classes, because I could not get enough Imbue cards.
Out of my first 15 drafts, I rarely got offered Mage or Priest, and most of my drafts were pretty bad, so I have not figured the new meta out yet. My best run so far is a Mage draft that is currently 7-2. The deck has 4 Imbue cards, 1 bounce card (Youthful Brewmaster), 3x Reckless Apprentice, 3x Dryscale Deputy (Battlecry: The next time you draw a spell, get a copy of it.), and only 4 spells (Wildfire, Primordial Glyph, Polymorph: Jellyfish, and Sunset Volley). I had a game against a Priest, who managed to steal 3 out of 4 of my spells from my deck, but I managed to get the win anyways—how gratifying that was!
Unlike the beginning of the last two seasons, where there was fewer barcode accounts during the first couple of days of the new season, I ran into plenty of barcodes by Tuesday night. The Arena leaderboards already have plenty of barcode accounts with winrates ranging from .05 to 1.66. Until they find a better solution to deal with barcodes, I think they should just disable the retire button. It will not stop barcodes from happening, but it would mean that barcode accounts would be forced to play bad drafts in Arena before they could start another draft, which would help feed the prize pool.
