Arena made it impossible to draft highlander

Has this ever happened to you? I was drafting a druid deck and selected Rheastrasza. But I was shocked to see a pick (about pick 15) where I was only offered a set of 3 cards I already had. There was no actual way for me to make a highlander deck. If this were pre the change to highlander cards, I could simply draw into one of the copies of the card and my Rheastaza would still be active. But with the recent change, the Rheastrasza has already turned into a vanilla 8/8 before game 1 and there’s nothing I can do about it.

With the highlander change I think they need to change arena so that, if you pick a highlander legendary, they never get offered picks where you only get cards you already have. Picks where you get 2/3rds being cards you have are fine, since that enables you to make a choice between a potentially suboptimal card versus highlander. However, a later pick that complete disables my legendary doesn’t feel like good game design. I know arena has a large element of the luck of the draft, but that felt very unfun and demotivating.

Part of drafting skills is not taking such huge risks xD

Extremely conditional legendaries are not worth picking, pick something else

Except that it didn’t used to be a risk. It has a 54.5% winrate because in the old meta, a highlander deck could still work if it had one or two duplicates.

Blizzard’s rework has made these cards risky in arena, but there’s no good reason for them to be. I think blizzard would prefer more card and strategies to work in arena, rather than to make more strategies unplayable.

Just think of it as if they made a patch which made that line of deckbuilding worse in the arena (which they did xD) and adapt

I just had the same, this should be changed, I wasn’t even motivated to finish my draft
