Arcane intellect needs an update

Yes. AI was there since the dawn of hearthstone. Power creep is normal in a card game and it is allowed to be creeped after years. Not that I like power creep, but you gotta draw a line after years. The fact that it’s still a solid card speaks for itself. Yes, it’s not an op card, but being solid after years in a game like hearthstone is pretty ok.

It’s a weak card, and secret mage has no other early draw.
Team 5 might as well not exist.
Any child could design a better thought out system.
This has happened every single cycle since the game has existed.
They make one viable deck, and one incomplete deck, and everyone says: “Wait until next expansion.”, then the expansion comes, and the incomplete deck gets nothing, and the new cards take mage in yet another poorly thought out direction.
For instance; wildfire is rotating next expansion.
Team 5 gave it absolutely zero support beyond what was originally released over three expansions.
Now they have released new secrets and burn cards, only to give them crippled draw.
Same old script and the same old failures.
AI sucks in comparison to the draw that exists in other decks right now, and it is the only early draw secret mage has, which is why the deck is mediocre at best in Standard.
But great news! You can play the same old garbage slot machine mechanics that EVERYONE complained about in mage last time they tried it.
The design team is the textbook definition of incompetence.

The DK version is literally a 3 drop with a 2/2 body battlecry and deathrattle draw a card

DK cards are hardly standout in power

Gotta say all people saying AI is solid are at least slightly mistaken. Maybe not mage players.

Mage has, since spell typing, going into specific kind of spells for a deck. Fire, Ice, Arcane, Big spells.

AI is played, yes, but mostly because it’s a neutral option. It’s not the first include, you put it in when there’s nothing else and it’s usually cut when the chance appears. Today it’s more of a “Hey, I can put AI in this deck” than a “I’m gonna put AI in this deck”.

First pick for draw has been Arcanist for some time now.

Well said. Secret mage has nothing else, and a burn deck isn’t possible for the same reason.

when death knight can increase its health & draw a card for 2 mana, I 100% agree. Mage really needs an updated version of AI

Yes it would. Power crept card draw was a drag on the game for like a year.

3 mana, draw 2 is standard. And it should be kept that way. Arcane Intellect is literally one of the most perfectly balanced cards in the game and is perfect for the core set.

Except against like aggro druid turn 2 is generally like a gimme. You can use high value cards that don’t give you board presence basically for free without being punished too hard.

Yes, but again, Warlock doesn’t need card draw really. It’s hero power is a 2 mana +1 (same as Arcane Intellect). Backdraft was only used for major deck cycling or for the self-damage aspect because Warlock didn’t need it even though it was incredibly good.

If secret mage is having resource issues, consider that new discover card which can give you cheap secrets, or Arcanologist, or running a small Naga package. Or if you wanna compete with more high value decks (which I mean that’s not the meta right now) then throw in the sunwell.

Or look at it a different way. Put Fireballs in your deck to close it out faster, before value matters. Secret Mage is usually a good tempo deck, so you’re really just looking to close the game out.

I think really the meta just isn’t friendly to slower tempo decks like secret mage right now, because frost DK/Shock Hunter/Miracle Rogue just either have too much resource generation or have way too much reach.

Buffing AI doesn’t fix that.

There are, unfortunately, many out-of-date cards. AI happens to be one of them. I dunno if buffing these cards is the answer. What may be the better route to take is to nerf all of these busted cards we’re seeing these days.

I would be down for this.
