APM and animations in BGs + BG Reward Wording

Hello everyone, I hope you’re all well.

We’ll begin with the simple (in my opinion) topic: the wording on the Battleground Track rewards. Every time I see the word “Free” my eye twitches. I understand what you’re doing there, with the “play on words” and the whole “it’s “free” because you “paid 20$, not because it’s actually free.””

Before anyone jumps to conclusions, yes: I did, in fact, pay 20$. Could we just remove the wording and leave the actual reward? Perhaps this is nitpicking, but jeez. Feels like a slap to the face of players that don’t buy it AND to the players that do, lmfao.

Secondly, something that has been brought up countless times on forum, but I feel will continue deserving review: how heavily animations punish players in BGs. I’m 34 years old. My first games were RTS games at ~10. It’s all about APM.

I love Battlegrounds and will openly admit having Golden Hoggarr x2 should’ve never been a thing, and I’m happy they’ve removed it. He’s more fun as a hero anyway, imo. It does feel the animations are even more punishing now, to the extent of my minions repeatedly swapping board positions, causing me to sell the wrong minion(s).

While I will forever respect the fact Hearthstone is aimed at a more casual community, I do feel those of us that put genuine effort into improving our gameplay should be rewarded on some level. It goes without saying there should never be a case for uncapped APM. Had this been the case, Golden Looters at 1m+ would’ve been more than possible.

All I’m asking is can we find a solid compromise between “the game doesn’t lag to the extent of selling the wrong minions,” and “hey man, slow yo roll, we still have speed zones?”

Reference

  • For the sake of these numbers, “cap” refers to the number I successfully hit before experiencing mechanic-altering lag. All numbers rounded up.

Hoggarr Days:

Capped APM at 2x Golden Hoggarr: 18; 26 under optimal conditions
Capped APM at 1x Golden Hoggarr: 28; 36 under optimal conditions

Record Smuggler (AKA: Goblin Clause) Days:

Capped APM at 2x Golden Smuggler: 13; 21 under optimal conditions
Capped APM at 1x Golden Smuggler: 24; 30 under optimal conditions

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Cheers.

P.S. I main Night Elf and Zerg .

Animations are very bad when playing pirates or elementals. I dont know why it have to be this way.

The best scaling card for cycle builds is magmaloc. When play pirate you would be good to switch to magmaloc and only have the pirate engine for the gold.

Magmaloc is the best scaling card.
Because it does its animations at the end of the turn.

It is what it is.

Go away, Franklin. JK.

On a more serious note, I’d rather they fix their game instead of nerfing my play experience, but then the terrible players crawl out of the woodworks crying.

This shi7 is wild. Why do I continually invest time, energy, and money into a game that punishes me for being good, despite the fact I’m one of the people dropping actual money on it? Why does the opinion of someone who plays 5 hours/mo and spends 0$/yr matter more than mine?

The best aspect of capitalism is the fact we vote with our money. Instead of wasting time complaining on the forums, I think it’s time I accept it as the sign it is: Blizzard games are no longer for me.

Blizzard got away with Bill Cosby’ing chicks at conventions, and now they’re getting away with Bill Cosby’ing my wallet.

Attention current and future entrepreneurs:

If you ever want an easy way to break into game development, just reskin Blizzard games (like they do with all of their content), remove any and all RNG aspects, and relaunch them. Guarantee you you’ll be successful. Actual gamers are getting sick of being punished for being good at games because of the casual player base.

Cheers.
