Anyone got a Priest deck

Somehow the vS Report has only Reno Priest and Automaton, surely there is a normal Control list no
?
If anyone has one please share, I keep facing Aggro and want to counter it.

Reno Priest is the Control deck.

There’s no real Control Non-Reno deck. I went through a solid 2 week period of testing nearly anything and everything for Control Priest on expansion release. Nothing really works because you have entirely too many counters. I’ve tried things people likely have never tried before (Student of The Stars, Infinite Naga Giants, Bonecaller Applebaum spam, Hidden Gem Overheal control, Undead Shadow Control Priest, Haunting Nightmare aggro spam, Lightspawn Overheal buff, Ra-Den taunt rez, etc, etc etc).

Nothing works anywhere near as good as Control Warrior. Everyone in the meta is doing what you’re trying to do but better. You have no win condition. And any win condition that you can come up with (Ra-Den rez for example) is smothered and destroyed by everyone playing Reno.

Your best bet is just to play Automaton, Old school Undead Priest, or the Naga Priest Thirsty Drifter world’s deck.

Trying to create a working Control Priest deck that isn’t Reno will just make you realize how bad Priest really is currently.

I ended up going through d0nkey.top to find some variants.
Theo used this some weeks ago and seems … okay I think.

Rat Combo and against Aggro heal 20 with the Pendant.
Have you tried something like this, if not, what do you think of it
?

By the way don’t think I didn’t see your message about trying Naga Giants I am just wondering if you’ve tried this type specifically, it seems very Control like to me.

I ended up doing just that, it’s a silly deck but quite fun.

Yes, in my Infinite Naga Giant build I did this. This was back when you got 20 armor instead of healing and it was better. Rat is great against aggro, specifically Treant Druid. Armor gain was amazing vs aggro.

To be more specific on why everything fails, I was using Control Priest in D5-D1, which I consider very competitive until you get to high legend. The issue with D5-D1 and playing Control Priest is that everyone and their mother/father/children is playing Brann Warrior. Brann Warrior will annihilate you.

I expect High Legend is its own little niche so you can get away with playing other things there. But if you are trying to play Control Priest in D5-D1, forget it. I don’t know why Brann Warrior is so popular, but it’s mainly popular in that specific area.

So Automaton is the way to go, which I am guessing is also better against Brann Warrior because of the infinite value and big stats.

Good to know, honestly after playing some games with it Automaton Priest is quite fun so I will continue with it.

Believe it or not, it’s actually worse against Brann Warrior. Brann Warrior beats every single Priest deck and it’s especially effective against Automaton and Undead (the aggro/pressure decks) because it has control tools and after those control tools erase your board, you have zero way to deal with the insane value that Brann Warrior spits out after it plays Brann.

There’s this weird notion that Brann Warrior sucks. VS shows it only has like 3-4 bad matchups and everything else is Green…but they insist it’s a Tier 4 deck. HSReplay shows Brann Warrior as one of the most common decks at D4-D1…meaning it’s good enough to climb with and it rates it at Tier 2.

I don’t know what’s going on, but people are trying to suppress how good the deck actually is. I think it’s because there’s some data issues with Brann Warrior mixing with Odyn and Control Warrior.

Just accept the Brann Warrior matchup loss and move on. Automaton Priest does fairly well and it can definitely be fun to play.

I think it’s because of how HS replay just takes data and VS messes with it, actually.

There’s something to be said for unfiltered data like HSreplay, which reaches a broader audience.

People keep forgetting that you have to add a plugin to your tracker to contribute your data to VS, but hsreplay collects everyone who uses their addon.

There’s a high likelihood of some selection bias in VS’s numbers, despite what others would have you believe.

That said, I think the opposite issue exists at lower ranks, btw. The fact that HS replay counts wins against bots as wins for the deck you’re playing is why the numbers look so ridiculous bronze through gold on HSReplay. In this specific instance, the VS numbers would be much more accurate because they would filter out those bot decks as useless.

Hey! Look at this one:

I got to the Legend with it last two seasons and regularly update the deck. Last updates was to address Sludge and Brann Warrior.

It put me at 1400 Legend and it’s all Warrior, and as you say it’s an auto-concede matchup.
I am using quite a suboptimal variant of Automaton Priest without Ignis but even with a good variant I don’t have any confidence against it.

That Warrior deck is … something.

That’s pretty good, great job!

Yup. I just don’t understand why everyone says that deck is bad and yet everyone is playing it. It doesn’t make any sense. Thank goodness Astalor is rotating.

Credits to the third-party bots for paving the way.
My MMR on a (previously) x3 Bonus Stars actually put me that high because of a 85% win rate from Bronze to Legend.

I don’t even know what to play against it to win.

Plague DK murders it. Sludge Warlock used to kill it, as it did everything else, and then the even greedier Warrior deck BlackRockNRoll would put up massive minions so the Astalors didn’t matter. Other than that, only Rainbow Mage at High Legend can kill it.

Yet somehow it’s a “Tier 4 deck”. I’m not buying it.

i am confused. did you get 1400 legend with automation or did you switch to warrior ?

I got placed 1400 after Diamond 1.
