I don’t understand how this card got through any kind of testing in it’s current state, it’s been that bad (at least for me). Besides being an over-costed removal option, the hero power has either assisted my opponent or killed me outright. For being a 10-cost legendary card, it just doesn’t make sense for it to be this bad. I would expect a 10-cost legendary class card to at least be a viable win condition.
As for changing this card:
Reduce the cost to 8. The Galakrond heroes cost 7 and they are vastly superior.
Change the hero power. Casting a random spell every turn is a joke. If it’s going to be random, let the player choose from four random selections. At least that way the card is more likely to produce a benefit than backfiring.
As a mage player, I was excited to see we would be getting a new hero and was expecting something along the power of Frost Lich Jaina, but only received disappointment.
Blizzard, please fix this card! In it’s current state, it is in no way “Amazing”.
The hero power should be discover a spell from any class, cast it at random targets. The removal is fair at 10 mana. Plague of Death is 9 mana and adds the minions to the Death Pool. Flash Heal is a 1 mana value, which is the equivalent to 5 armor.
I dont understand. Its an rng heavy card and you complain about it being too rng?Its the exact same as yogg was, you play it when you have no hope of winning and praying.Bad design for a card game that is supposed to have an esports stage but whatever. You cant really do anything with it as the battlecry is actually twisting nether
Reno isn’t some great removal tool he is an “oh-crap!” button.
You don’t play him on curve or when you are ahead. You play him when you either remove minions or lose the game. He is an “oh crap!” button that is meant to keep you in the game another turn. That is all. Beyond that, it is your skill and prowess that will take over. Or not.
I laughed outright when the last mage who played this card hit Astral Communion on his next turn with a full hand. I felt bad for him but got a good giggle out of it XD
At least you can dare play your hero, even if it’s a coin toss. With zephyrs, no warlock will ever play jamarcus again
I’d be more inclined to give Mage a better Reno card if they weren’t busted already with their Quest BS. Compared to cards like Guldan and Malfurion with objectively better stats, this one just seems a bit off. Even if they made the hero Power 3 mana I think it’d be fair.
People were already complaining about hero cards being too powerful, if you give Reno a good HP he will be completely unbalanced for standard.
Obviously he’s nowhere near as good as some of the other DK cards but every class had a DK card back then so it was kinda an even field. Even tho warrior, for example, had a terrible DK.
Yeah I can see that. They had enough people complaining about Galakrond Warrior and Shaman so it makes sense. I definitely was disappointed on this card upon reveal.
In my opinion, Renogos should have been a card for this set. A Mage Dragon would have been more fun to have than a Mage clutch card.
If they made the hero card cheaper, I would have been fine too. Maybe 5 mana instead of 10, cast 15 random spells. There’s too much RNG Puzzle Box flavor though; I prefer that theme to just stick with Yogg himself.
There is a disconnect with what his Battlecry does and what his Hero Power does though, I will agree on that. At the very least now Mages who play this on a clutch can no longer Ping and can possibly hurt themselves with the RNG. Whatever handicap they have in Wild is fine with me too.
Didn’t Blizzard at one occasion state that they wanted playing high-cost and/or legendary cards to feel powerful? With all the people defending this card saying that it was intended to be a hail-mary/last resort, it appears that the consensus is that the card is not so much powerful as it is desperate. I know I certainly don’t feel powerful playing the card and it’s easy enough to play around that it’s not that much of a threat to play against, at least the battlecry effect.
As for the effect, we already have a viable card that casts a bunch of random spells, so I don’t think we really need another card for that.
It just seems like this card could have been designed in so many more creative ways; some interaction with the “poofed” minions, equip a mage weapon, random discover, etc, that would have made it at least more interesting to play, if not more competitive.
