what does one do against this? they kill you through reno half the time, should I just expect to lose or is there some genius play I am not making ? life steal spells board wipes khartut defender they seem to go through everything. I can usually hit Diamond 1 in standard playing control but right now 10 out of 9 games are people just brainlessly spamming burn face with %80 WR. boring as fu
does blizzard ever touch wild or just leave it like an unwanted child?
karthut defender is way too slow to be included as an effective counter to aggro (you can play it, but not as your cheapest option).
Depending on the class you are playing, there may be good cards.
“1 mana 2/2 heal both heroes by 4” is one of my favourite card.
Warlock has a lot of tools to survive the early game, warrior too and probably also priest (I am not sure about early removal for priest).
What class/deck are you playing?
Play secret Mage (although even that archetype could be considered as aggro, lol) or Priest. (has some favourite match-ups vs aggro)
I think even Pure Paladin is good vs aggro, although it sucks vs other stuff.
playing renolock. running mistress drainsoul dark skies defile doomsayer.
I used to play this way back when reno first came out but now I feel like maybe the deck just isnt good anymore? or is it wild aggro that is to ogood?
Renolock. Pack a bunch of heals and cheap removals. Taunts are good too. Your finishers are essentially a culmination of everything you play prior, so it’s not like what you play just goes to waste against slower decks.
Reno itself isn’t enough. You need to put enough resistance that they can’t out tempo you to no return. Hard because 4 mana 8/8 is just stupidly overpowered, and Rigged Faire Game just refills their hand. And when you don’t trigger Rigged Faire Game, they just play Cloud Prince and four mana 8/8 on curve and you die anyway.
Maybe a couple more control cards? 2x defile, etc.
Edit: saw you’re playing reno lock heheh so can only 1x defile. You can add a couple more control cards though at the expense of something bigger.

I’ve ran essentially this list to Legend last 3 months, only swapping in and out a few cards depending on the meta. I’m sure better lists exist out there, but for me it works.
How about a fire breather over something more situational like applebaum or Kazakus? If you’re getting overrun maybe trade some flexibility for a reliable answer.

I am running a diffferent version as I changed it to lose late game value for early game, maybe I should craft ziliax? I honestly think its an overrated card for 5 mana
Try running my list and see if it works better. Some cards in your deck make less sense, like Plague of Flames. You’re not a Cubelock, and the list you have doesn’t necessarily ensure having a full board either.
Other cards like Drain Soul and Mortal Coil are meh, but there are far better cards. Acolyte and Free Admission are redundant. You’re a Warlock, you don’t need any draws. If anything, the only draw cards you would need for a Renolock is maybe Kobold Librarian, but in a burst meta it’s not necessary.
I can see you’re running the demon version, but honestly the only demons you need are the big three: Malganis, Voidlord, and Enhanced Dreadlord. Voidcaller and Kenrethad Prime are pretty much autoincludes as well. Tickatus is slow and is really only activated in the late game with an early Godfrey. It won’t do you any good against fast decks; just drop it imo.
Shadowflame is also too slow; drop that for Hellfire. Doomsayer and Beetle are fine; I personally dropped them, but they’re good cards. Beetle would be a lot better for Nzoth package.
I use Rotten Applebaum and Khartut for a bit of that midrange value. Rotten Applebaum isn’t a top choice card, but the meta is so aggressive I put that and Healbot on top of all the other defensive cards I run. Plus they make my Nzoth pool a tad bit better if I to drop it early. Otherwise they’re the first to go later on if I need more late value or other meta tech. Zilliax though, that card is fantastic for this, because it not only serves as heals, but it also serves as removal. Autoinclude.
Kezan is obviously for Secret Mage; it and Chief Inspector are the only good neutral tech out there.
I would drop the skull demon package and go Nzoth honestly, keeping the big three, the early drops, and maybe Tickatus if you hate Priest all that much. The taunt and late game value just doesn’t compare. Doomguard is ok, but not worth it if you’re not cubing it or copying multiples.
Do you really see enough Raza players to justify losing so many percentage points against other decks?
The matchup is an auto loss if you don’t have this. Priest, Mage, and Warlock are my three top matchups.
Also, it works against Odd Warrior, Odd Paladin, Demon Hunter, and mirror Warlock matchups. Initially one would think these two cards are dead in hand, but I have used these so many times in addition to the Razakus counters that yes, I see it justified. And sometimes if I’m just trying to survive, I drop Finley and switch out of my Warlock to Warrior or Priest to stay alive.
If he plays Polkelt you can Brann gnom; you can double dirty rat as well.
If you don’t draw the combo and only one, you have essentially a dead card in hand. And big Priest laughs at it. (I admit Finley is ok, but grisely is more than just meh)
Big Priest already has its counters, and that’s Brann Kazakus potions or a rush to maximize Guldan and Nzoth.
Polkelt isn’t always played on curve, and I don’t always have Gnome on hand either. And sure I can run other cards for Big Priest, but beyond the list I already have there’s nothing out there that would improve it for that specific matchup except maybe some removal that could buy me a turn. Rat is hard to get right when they have so many cards on hand.
If Priest was the only matchup I used this combo for, you could probably take it out. I see the value in it. It doesn’t always win games, but it doesn’t make it an autoloss either.
I mean this isn’t really a counter. It only buys you some turn, you can’t really tech against big Priest.
I for example only run 1 mass rez, but 1 scream; you risk getting those cheep thrown back into your deck:D (+ summoning and stone does the job)
Oh, btw I have won so many matches against Renolocks because they did not expect massdispel; always try to have more hp than the Priest has attack on the board.
I mean if there’s nothing else to use besides what I’ve already put in my list I don’t see the harm in having Finley and Grizzled in the deck. Big Priest loses to other decks like Razakus anyway, so it’s less vital for me to counter a T2 deck with few options to begin with/existing counters I already have than countering a T1 deck that I see more and performs better.
Kazakus work well if you get the sheep plus damage, because the sheep activate first, then the damage clears it all on the same turn to ensure the res pool is diluted. Even though I will say Res Priest is a slightly unfavored matchup, I’m going for my main matchups.
Just out of curiosity, what would you put in instead of these two cards? I have used Loatheb which has helped delay the game, but again buying a turn on an autoloss doesn’t help me win. Tickatus is greedy and I don’t have the card. I’d consider that if I had it and Zola in my collection.
That’s not true in my experience lol.
It is only slightly unfavoured against Reno Priest, however you can tech vs it
with the incredible mind blast:D (yes I seem to be the only priest who doesn’t mind doing +15 dmg and sniping unsuspecting Reno players; excavate evil works as well, but this tech is bad vs everything else)
Yes, Reno Mage is favoured, but that deck is not played on ladder.
33% for a specific combo, wasn’t it?
Rez Priest doesn’t really care that much about polluted Rez pools and is btw a tie r1 decks according to VS. (the value comes on average more from cheating minions out, and mass rez is just a meh spell even with vargoth; diamond spellstone doesn’t care that much)
Btw a tech as Warlock exist vs Big Priest and its good in other matchups:
Treachery-Doomsayer…
Ticatus is just bad. I would go for Lotheb as well, and something anti aggro like doomsayer probably.
No T1 Renolock list runs Treachery. No Warlock aside from the combo memes run Treachery lol. Every T1 Renolock Legend list I have seen runs Finley and Grizzled.
And Treachery Doomsayer is just as reliable to Big Priest as it is to pull Finley and Grizzled against Razakus, so how does that fare as a decent option?
I’m saying with experience having played Renolock since I started Wild, the best options you have are already found. There are options, but the whole reason why Renolock hit T1 in the first place was because the Grizzled Finley combo hits the dominating Priest hard. With my Priest decks, which having 2,400 wins in the class, I do see Razakus being substantially better than Big since a well placed scream is game over.
Ofc it doesn’t. Only madman who despise Big Priest would that’s why I inlcuded the […] at the end, lol.
`Renolock hit T1 `
When was that? Atm it’s only tier 3 according to VS. (I looked June up as well; it was only tier 3)
That’s only the case if nothing died.
Ah, I am playing that deck as well (not really, but is highlander and a warlock).
My removals/anti aggro cards are:
rain of fire
mistress of potions
unstable felbolt
dark bomb
defile
doomsayer (not really anti aggro)
dark skies
demonwarth
cascading disaster (not really anti aggro)
fire breather
despicable dreadlord
zilliax
then there are the usual reno, zephrys, kazakus that may help, aranasi broodmother + sense demon that can heal too.
I suggest you to add at least another card to deal with wide board (demonwarth or fire breather, for example) and I would add a 3 damage spell (felbolt/darkbomb). So, as a minimum, I would add 2 in total (as you can see, I added more and more over time because of odd paladin and druid, which now aren’t as present as before the nerf, so I may change something. Back in time, it worked)
I would play that card as well, but it’s epic and costs 400 dust
I still have Silas to ruin their day, but they usually ruin mine before turn 7 anyways
It’s a good card, but unlike when it was in standard, it isn’t a must have. I use it only because I have it, but it’s not something that really saves me games like it used to during boomsday.
