Achievement XP and the Pass

Does anyone know how the XP bonus interacts with achievements which grant XP? Can I complete a bunch now but wait to collect them until I’ve hit the 20% mark?

The achievements that grant XP are affected by your Tavern Pass bonus.

Does it really make a difference if you collect them now or later though? If you collect them now the xp you get later will get the bonus, if you get them later the XP you get now doesn’t get the bonus.

Yes, but what’s the timing? Is the bonus applied when they’re completed or when they’re clicked for collection?

There are different ways it could work.

  1. I complete a 100xp achievement today while at +15%. I click to collect it today. I get 115xp. Nothing odd here.

  2. I complete a 100xp achievement today while at +15%. Tomorrow I hit the level needed to get +20%. I click to collect it then. I get 115xp because the amount is set at the moment of completion.

  3. I complete a 100xp achievement today while at +15%. Tomorrow I hit the level needed to get +20%. I click to collect it then. I get 120xp because the amount is set at the moment of collection.

  4. I complete a 100xp achievement today while at +15%. I click to collect and get 115xp. Tomorrow I hit the level needed to get +20%. I get the bonus 5xp immediately.

XP rewards aren’t retroactive in any other scenario so I doubt #4 would apply.

So you mean complete them, but don’t CLICK on them until you have the max 20% available?

I reckon that sounds correct because the xp isn’t applied until you have clicked on them when it shines blue.

That’s my thinking, too. I’m going through them but won’t click any for quite a while.

Feel free to reply or quote me later once you find out. I’m quite keen to see what happens. It’s clever thinking because I click my achieves straight away because notifications bug me haha.

Even though it’s likely that you could get more XP from the achievements by saving them until after you reach the 20% increase, in the long run that may actually lose you total XP because you’re delaying the moment when you reach that 20% bonus.

The actual difference in the XP rewards from the achievements is really very small: only 5 or 10 XP each for the majority of them, and 25 XP at most for the ten with the largest rewards.

In contrast, each daily gains 45-50 XP with the boost to 20%, and the weeklies get even bigger boosts.

Reaching the 20% multiplier a bit sooner so that you get the increased XP reward for all of your games and quests is probably going to give you more XP in the long run than trying to maximize the relatively small rewards from achievements.

Yup, that’s what I was thinking.

Claiming the achievements now will get them to that 20% faster, which means a permanent bonus faster.

All the extra time required to get to that 20% without redeeming the achievements is just a waste of xp.

Ultimately, I don’t think it makes any difference whatsoever.

Aegaeon beat me to it. This ^^^^

Not claiming your achievements until you have a higher bonus would be like not playing or completing quests until you have that bonus. The XP that gets you to those levels is just as important as the XP that comes afterward. You’re only going to earn a finite amount of XP in an expansion. A certain percentage of that will be below the +20% threshold nomatter how you slice it.

Delaying achievement cash-ins means you’re taking longer to get to that threshold which, if you hit it faster, would be bumping up your match & quest XP a lot sooner, which offsets the 5% you wouldn’t be getting on those achievements.

I was the same but just thought, “hmm, maybe that’s a bad idea.” However…

That’s a great point. Watch out clicks! Here I come.

I would never leave dailies and weekly’s sitting there, I mean just for the achievements I would do it. They’re a one off thing so may as well get the best possible xp for them?
