I like playing Secret mage, Tempo Mage, and HP Mage.
I don’t think any of those deck styles are playable in this expansion.
Perhaps Big Spell is a thing, but given what other classes got, I’m gonna’ need to see evidence…
I won’t even make fun of your constant complaining but an hour into the expansion you have the meta already figured out? C’mon.
It takes about 5 minutes into a release for all the decks to be optimized and the meta to be pretty much locked in until the next miniset or some giant ‘balance’ patch.
Lets not pretend the deck experimentation phase made it past the expansion ‘preview’ event.
It isn’t my intention to do that at all. I was hoping you would offer rebuttal, and say something like: “Hey Mal, there is this potential deck that perhaps you haven’t considered?”
Do you have input of that nature, or did you just want to voice your disapproval?
This Forum seems to only exist for crowing about wins with select decks, or screaming for nerfs.
It would be nice to be able to discuss other things.
And, there isn’t going to be a deck style I enjoy for mage that I can see.
I was hoping others might see more.
There is not much to discuss, the expansion was just released so no one knows what decks will be strong and how the meta settles… and even then we will be getting nerfs soon so even that will change.
Normally I’d say that there is chance the expansion will have little to no influence over Wild meta but there are some really powerful cards so it might be a bit different. Just wait a couple of days for epople to figure out what is what.
Well, I sincerely apologize if you think I was just complaining for the sake of it.
I crafted all the mage cards, and honestly, I cannot see how any of them boost any existing deck I have.
So I was hoping that there might be some new deck that I have not seen.
Welp first day into expansion in Wild. No need to change; Demon Seed dominates.
There MIGHT be…
Well, in PIP:
- tools for Painlock
- tools for Shadow Priest
- tools for Pirates
I guess Team 5 likes status quo in Wild
Doing well so far Mal! Lifeguard OP in Mage.

There are some extreme fast decks with raylla.
Like seriously…
Standard mage is pretty decent.
Maybe Mall just looked at the mage cards and not the pally cards that mage can run with tourist.
Seems like all the theorycraft decklist that is tempo-ish tour pally.
The pally cards should be able to help mage win or at least keep up boards in the early-mid game. From there you can go all in on aggro/tempo, or run late game for the other half of your deck.
Or just play sif to finish.
The 10 mana pirates spell is really underwhelming when we compare to sif and khadgar. Better use grillmaster as tutor for they.
Really tried the spell and sincerely it should have been for every spell you casted.
Still nothing that bad since there are alternatives to it.
Yeah SIf can totally be one to run (is she late game? Or just a finisher? I hear there are ways to throw sif down before turn 10 now)
The pirate spell is probably meant for paladins, who may have a pirate deck. I don’t see pirate mage being a thing lol. If mage wants spell to summon a board, they have the 7 mana elemental spell.
tysvm for this! I will definitely try it out:)
Ive made some tweaks to the deck, like dropping fireball for Gorgonzormu (that card is broken, lol, one suffers without the option). I also cut one of the 6-cost spells for Fizzle as well.
This deck got me from D4.2 to D3.2. A lot of mages playing Elemental, I lost to 2 of those.
The Explosive Runes are for disrupting OTK decks like current Druid. One of the best combos is Lifeguard on 4 into Starpower on 5; I had one game I dicovered a 5 cost flamestrike with glyph (vs Big Hunter), my turn 4 was lifeguard then Flamestrike on 5 to heal 19
I expect the most competitive deck at the start of the expansion to be a variant on Sif OTK mage. However, its going to be a rough go playing that. The meta is all hyper aggro and super control decks (which all run dirty rats or doomkins) and both are not great matchups for Sif.
Big spell mage probably has potential but we will see.
People are really having that much issues playing Sif decks?
It is obvious that they can’t play pre expansion rainbow mage but with stuff like life savior aura and Divine brew It is really easy to blend a Sif finisher into small spell mage.
I think yellow’s point is that it’s going to be a bad meta for Sif mage because it will crumble before aggro/fast combo decks.
Time will tell.
Obvious to whom? I literally did just that, and gained 2k ranks in 2 hours with it xD
More than half of your deck is discover, anyway, so not much needs change, you get your new cards in the new discover pool
The cards to keep in mind for Wild (for you especially) are:
Rising Waves
This card could be considered a better Fire Sale. Especially in Wild, where big stats can come out of nowhere, having access to a 3-mana (situationally) deal 4 AOE is better than a 4-mana deal 3 AOE.
Seabreeze Chalice
This is the burn card you might be looking for. It works with Flamewalker and similar cards, potentially fitting your play style.
Tidepool Pupil
You could use this in HP Mage to get back Wildfire if you get both in your starting hand. It’s a better, faster Commander Sivara.
Sleepy Resident
This card could have potential in Wild since many scam stat decks exist, and it effectively provides you with an extra turn by putting everything to sleep.
Marooned Archmage
This into a 2-cost spell. Sounds like a good include in a Tempo Mage deck and forces the opponent to do something about it. It can take over if left alone.
Of course, the most important thing to consider is Raylla. Including her in your deck grants access to all Paladin cards from this expansion (except their Tourist). Many of these cards seem like strong additions that could be included in a Mage deck.
