Battlecry: If you played this for its Battlecry, you lose the game.
True, Whirlpool is a problem. Though there is at least counterplay potential with Ra-den, which isnât something that Pogos had. As long as you donât get both your Automatons and your Ra-den(s) hit by a whirlpool, youâre not out of the game.
I still think that Priest can get by on the slow game well enough that theyâll just slot Ra-den and the TITAN into Control Priest and roll with that. Just do Ra-den, TITAN, and maybe one or two more minions so you can reliably get something good from Creation Protocol. The Colossal maybe, though that does take up two slots on your board.
I just think that âglacialâ is how they want Priest to play. Maybe next year will be a year without a lot of OP removal in the pool. Until Whirlpool rotates that was never really gonna work.
Edit: Speculation. If theyâre going random bodies Priest, maybe theyâll bring the Galakronds back into Standard through the Core set next year.
The automaton thing isnât going to work, especially not in standard. There are not enough copy cards to get anything that even resembles a threatening minion.
Itâs WORSE than old pogo rogue. More than twice as worse.
- Pogo would gain double the benefit because itâs +2/+2
- Rogue had MULTIPLE ways to shuffle in copies and go infinite if it wanted to, and it still sucked
- Priest has none of that, itâs twice as slow, and it presents exactly 0 threats.
If by some miracle you can play 8 of themâŚso what? By turn 15 youâre dropping an 8/8 for 1 mana? Other decks are doing that on like turns 3 and 4.
Automaton is a complete nothing burger.
Student of the Stars is the better version, and even that is very meh. Bottom Feeder didnât see play, Student of the Stars will see about as much play as that, maybe a few more because Priest might be able to do it a bit better.
And, to top it all of as to why neither will see any serious play is because they donât have taunt.
Perhaps there are some more cards in future expansions that can use them effectively, but as of right now they are both dead on arrival.
Temporus is at least memorable because of how awful he was.
Herald Volajz and Zerek, Master Cloner were complete blanks in my memory.
Automaton priest is worse than pogo rogue and pogo rogue was never amazing.
People who want to play this archetype in standard can just play relic demon hunter. Itâs trying to accomplish the same thing, but it only has to devote two deck slots to relic of phantasms. This opens the rest of the deck up for removal, card draw, mana cheat, early game threats and the like.
In order to get a critical mass of threats, priest has to dedicate so much of its deck to janky copy effects.
Exactly. If, and this is a big IF, there was a shadow spell that copied the minion, then this would have at least hope of being a meme but it doesnât even have that.
Student of the stars and automaton both lose instantly the moment whirlpool hits the field. And Ra Den is a deathrattle so you can shard of the naaru it. There is no way copy priest ever beats control priest. If a new priest deck cannot beat control priest, then it simply cannot exist.
I think you mix the 2. Control Priest already has copy cards, so you just use synchronize and Forge card to get copies you can play later. And against another Priest, any priest playing Ra-Den without killing it immediately deserves to lose.
the 1 cost minion is better then pogo hoppers as their stats will scale as you keep summoning more. Itâs good it is in priest otherwise it would run out of control probably real quick
