Late update but I actually did find a workaround I booted hearthstone on my phone (I almost exclusively play on PC) and was able to check equipment there and that finally cleared the NEW tag from it and it stayed gone even when I switched back to PC so if anyone else runs into this freak bug that’s one way you can get around it.
