We’re working on Updates to Battlegrounds!

Hello Everybody!

Today, we want to give you a peek behind the curtain, and talk to you about our approach to updating the highly competitive Battlegrounds game mode, and how you’ll be able to help make it the best that it can be.

We are currently working on a number of updates to Battlegrounds, including an update to Gameplay objectives, Mechanics, and something many of you have been asking for… a brand new map!

Battlegrounds is a very important mode to many of you, and we know this. So we want to take our time to make sure that we’re releasing something that players will be excited about. We’re not quite ready to release it yet or share too many details, but wanted to let you know how we plan to test it, and how it will initially be playable for you all.

In early February, we plan to run a small playtest with some pre-selected players. Unfortunately, we are not going to be able to take any applications for this test, though we appreciate that many of you would be willing to give us a hand by testing the map with us.

We will use this first round of feedback to address any major pain points or outliers before our next step, a public trial release.

With the launch of v3.3 in late March, we plan to introduce the new map in rotation with the existing map, for a duration of approximately 2 months, before potentially being taken down for retooling.

During that time period, we want to hear from you! We want to get your thoughts on if the new Map is an improvement over the last Map. Our intention is to eventually move to the new Map either permanently, or make it regularly available, but we don’t want to do that until we know that this is a better experience for our players.

Of course, in a live-game environment, timelines are always subject to change, and we hope to release more information on the new and improved Battlegrounds as we get closer to the release.

See you in Hell,

The Diablo Immortal Team

Fix the CC, for Pete’s sake.

Everybody is getting ragdolled all over the map.

And while you are at it - do something so that a single player can’t one shot the Ancient Heart.

Amazing! Really excited to see what new mechanics and some tuning for the old map would be great to have a couple potential maps when you load in.

And also get the dev team to make all the buttons in PC version functional with a controller. Please!!

Jesus great news - love to hear that and am looking forward

Would be a great opportunity to fix/change phase 3 on regular BG. As of right now Phase 3 is absolutely pointless, once attackers open the heart there’s nothing to do as a defender unless you are close on winning by kills, which still is pointless because high reso players can one tap the heart and end the game.

Nothing is going to get better unless you can fix the matching. Just about every match is lopsided and it’s so much so that one team cannot leave spawn point. It’s ridiculous. Why does a 6K person have to play against a 10K whale? Make it more fair otherwise no matter what you do to the map isn’t really going to matter.

Teams are more likely to be unbalanced than even in its current state. This needs major tuning. As a 7k reso player I shouldn’t be in teams that lose by 45 points regularly. If this has to do with reso suppression and the value of my $ spent, look into it and fix it. It’s not a skill issue as some trolls would say, I often have the best K/D on team and trust me I know objectives…

If this isn’t fixed it doesn’t matter what map you put us on. It’ll be the same bs where the match is decided before it even begins

Everyone here reflected my views perfectly, epically the one hit ko on the heart. That has to be fixed !

Phase 1 is also bait most of the time. Would love to see both modified in a meaningful way.

Theres zero reason why bg lobbies shouldnt be split evenly. 0-3000, 3000-6000, 6000-8500, 8500-10000, 10k+.
And a mode where all resonance can fight together if they chose too.
Im sure im with most i wouldnt mind the que times getting longer if the mat hes are more balanced. A person can open world farm between bg ques.
Also there should be a battleground captain in all zones.

I would rather like to see an option for a BG training for clan members as the training ground is so small and the dummies don’t help either as the attacks and lego gems rather hit that than the player

Get rid of spawn camp. Other pvp games have towers that 1 shot players that try to camp. They also have multiple exits at spawn to help with camp.

I’m super excited for this and am looking forward to the update I hope I get selected for the trial run

Uhm… no, not for me. ^^" Well I’m 100% F2P so I guess this mode is not meant for me anyway. I do it only for reaching my Bronze 2 goal, that’s it basically.
I (still) see not much balancing in the Battlegrounds, climbing as low reso player is very hard and frustrating and nothing feels really balanced. Statues fall to fast for attackers and are not defend-able for the defenders. Barbs and Crusis never die, Tempest do to much damage and me as F2P Necro without the resources to get proper P2P gear and gems is happy when the team wins somehow every full moon or so.

On the bright side, Battlegrounds is still more balanced than Clan-Wars on a Saturday…

Sounds great. But yes, the level of pulling CC is way too high. There’s suck in red circles and chains everywhere. The Gladiator paragon skill to ignore 1 cc effect is essentially useless as there are far too many everywhere. And then why knockback protection does nothing vs knock up or pulls? We’ve been saying for years that too much CC is unfun and you keep releasing more gems/essences with CC pulls.

Also, please don’t forget about scaled pvp modes when you make mechanic changes. I swear the base damage values are out of whack for certain classes and summons. (Ex: As tempest I can kill an Alley npc with only primary+zephyrs faster than I could as DH unloading full strafe+multi+knock+veng). Lot’s of people in my clan only play the bare minimum for event points despite liking BGs, I’m sure you’d get a lot more class balance comments if they were around and played more.

Honestly, I don’t think you should even bother.

The main PvP aspect of the game is the Shadows vs Immortals cycle, where higher spenders always win (made even easier for them with previous major update).

If you want to make BG fun for everyone, there’s an easy way:
take notes from PvP events where resonance and secondary stats don’t matter (Wild brawl, Alley of Blood, Conqueror) and adjust BG rules accordingly.

Of course, that’s impossible in a P2W game, so I won’t keep my hopes up.

ZERO RESO MODE when ?

It’s a pay-to-win game, we know, you know, everyone know.

But we are all losing potential new players and veterans alike if this continues as it is. It’s not hard to say how people would engage more often and participate in rated BG if there was no Reso involved. Or at least it gives us the option to select a No Reso mode, if possible.

What exactly is the point of high resonance in the BG’s anyway? the whales already have the best gems in the game leveled to the maximum and also all the secondary gems stats.

I’m not saying you should remove the reso from the game. Everything have it’s own place in this game. Keep the reso for everything else: vault, RoE, x1, open world. The whales care more about Rite of Exile than BG anyway.

Or don’t, and just let your game fall into a dying spiral, which is sad, it’s already started, because there’s no way new players can actually get into a BG or any mode against someone with 10k+ more RESO and have fun. Even with the “new ranking system”, there are more bots than real players in these matches until you reach “legendary rank”, and then you are forced to play against whales all day every day, it is so unnecessarily frustrating
