Re: Issues Trying To Unlock Hell Difficulty in Diablo Immortal? Game Progress in Limbo…

Dear Diablo Immortal Team and Community:

I am seeking some help or tips on this Hell Unlocking Difficulties in Diablo Immortal as my game progress is now stuck in limbo land. Once I finally figure out the issues and how to Unlock Hell difficulty levels 1, 2 and 3, I will update this post.

I recently purchased the Collector’s Empowered Battle Pass in Diablo Immortal and started leveling up my favorite characters in the game, except I can’t find a way to unlock Hell difficulty!? This is hindering my game progress, and it’s very frustrating with all of the confusing game mechanics that do not help or guide you clearly.

For reference, I have four (4) characters on Diablo Immortal and I been playing the game for a good while now. My main character is a Necromancer at max level 60 with a CR of 1707, and my Paragon level is 160. I also have my Blood Knight at max level 60 Paragon level 26, and Crusader level 42, and Demon Hunter level 28.

The issue I am experiencing is unlocking the Hell Difficulty in Diablo Immortal, which many other Diablo Immortal players have complained about the same thing, which is also very confusing and seems bugged. I think Blizzard should improve Diablo Immortal a lot more and be more clear on the game mechanics as well.

For example: The Hell difficulty system in the game is either too confusing, bugged or broken, and the red tape BS to get to Hell difficulty 1, 2, 3 and beyond is not clear enough in the game, and that is not good.

My main character in Diablo Immortal, as I mentioned before, is a Necromancer at max level 60, CR 1707, and Paragon level 160 - which should give me automatic access to Hell difficulty 3 by now - but as of this writing I am still stuck in Normal difficulty mode, which is just beyond ridiculous! Although I am confident I will overcome this very confusing, grindy, buggy and ridiculous red tape to unlock Hell difficulty, it should NOT be this way for any player, especially at my level.

**

No other Diablo game has so much unnecessary red tape nonsense to unlock difficulty levels, except Diablo Immortal! Not to mention, it’s very confusing and seems bugged since I cannot progress and unlock the difficulty levels in the game due to non-working game mechanics and unavailable NPC needed to make progress, and nothing is clear on what to do either! But constant notifications to buy in-game items works perfectly! Very frustrating!

**

Diablo Immortal Hell Difficulty Levels Unlocking is Confusing and Does Not Seem to be Working Properly:

Another example of why I’m stuck and unable to unlock Hell difficulty levels in Diablo Immortal is because NPC Rayek is unavailable, and when I click on the arrow to go fight Lassal The Flame-Spun boss it says: You are not carrying a Helliquary. Visit Cain to learn more lol!

So I visit Cain, and nothing. I go to the Central Square area in Westmarch where Rayek is, and still nothing available there either. I did the instance / quest where Westmarch is under attack by demons etc… but still NOTHING!? This is so ridiculous, confusing and broken!

So yeah… all this running around and not making any progress is very damn frustrating and an awful waste of game play and time, and many players have complained about this issue in Diablo Immortal as well. Clearly, I am not the only one who has experienced this issue in the game.

I do not understand why Blizzard and NetEase have such broken, buggy and confusing game mechanics in Diablo Immortal, but the more I play, the more bugs, issues and confusing game mechanics I discover. Overall I like Diablo Immortal even more than Diablo IV, but as I said before, Diablo Immortal can be a lot better, and more simple and clear in its game mechanics for all players to have a better experience when leveling and progressing in the game, and I am not the only one saying this. I am sharing this based on my own experience with the game so far.

I been a Blizzard player / customer for over 18 years, and always give Blizzard games a try, and so far only two games stand out the most when it comes to issues, bugs, game mechanics and problems, and those two games are Diablo IV and Diablo Immortal, except Diablo Immortal is not anywhere close to how bad D4 is right now since it launched.

Diablo Immortal is definitely better, and more fun and rewarding than D4 in many ways, but it still has many confusing, buggy and annoying issues to address as I mentioned here.

Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy playing Diablo Immortal, but being stuck over bugs and confusing game mechanics that create unnecessary red tape for players to progress in the game, especially at my max level and Paragon level 160 with a CR of 1707, is very disappointing to say the least. It’s not good.

If there was a more straight forward, simple and even challenging way to unlock difficulty levels in the game, it would be a lot better than it is now because my game progress is in limbo, and that is NOT fun at all, especially being stuck in Normal mode at my level in the game!

Any tips or feedback from the Diablo Immortal Community on this Hell Difficulty unlocking issue would be very appreciated.

Either way, I hope Blizzard and NetEase improve the game overall, especially the game mechanics and fix any outstanding bugs that hinder player progress, and also make things more clear to players in the game as well. At least it’s not as bad as Diablo IV lol.

That’s all for now! Cheers and Happy New Year to all! - JJ -

Dumb question but have you finished the main quest and done all the other green side quests also have you? It won’t unlock unless you have done the main quest to completion and the green side quests

Your question is not dumb, my friend. I appreciate you mentioning this.

But are you serious about the side green quests too? I’ve done plenty of those already and been doing the main quest as well. I don’t mind grinding some more to do the main quest line, but doing all those extra green side quests is definitely ridiculous, and seriously disappointing if it’s necessary, which it should NOT be.

That can’t be right. If that is the case - I have no interest in another waste of time, ridiculous grind only to make little progress in the game. I mean I am beyond qualitied and OP for Hell difficulty 1, 2 and 3 as it is now, and all this confusing grind is just not worth it if I have to do extra green side quests too. That would be awful if that’s correct.

The main quest line I can understand in any game, but side quests too!? That doesn’t sound right, and Diablo Immortal makes no mention of it in the game. There is no indication or info on how to unlock Hell difficulty in the game. It’s very vague and not clear at all, and Diablo Immortal doesn’t let players know any detailed requirements for unlocking Hell difficulty, unless it’s hidden in some fine print no one knows about lol.

This is all very confusing, and the quests with Rayek seems bugged as well. It’s also not clear in Diablo Immortal, as I shared in my post when trying to click the arrow to do the boss fight. This just sucks, big time.

I was really enjoying leveling up and progressing in Diablo Immortal, until this nonsense came up and put my game progress in limbo, and if you are correct about having to grind extra and do those green quests too, just to unlock Hell difficulty in the game, it is a big turn off and disappointment. There should be a clear path on how to unlock Hell difficulty in the game, not have these confusing, buggy, grindy issues with a max level character. No other Diablo game has this ridiculous, unnecessary red tape BS to unlock difficulty in the game, and in Diablo Immortal it also seems like it’s bugged.

Both Diablo 3 and 4 are clear on how to unlock every difficulty in the game, so I don’t understand why so many confusing issues to unlock difficulty in Diablo Immortal!? It’s not clear at all in Diablo Immortal, and that should be fixed and improved for all players.

Either way, I don’t give up so easy when I invest time and money in a game, so I will look into this further and hopefully not have to do those extra green quests too just for unlocking a simple difficulty in the game while I’m at max level already, with stats above average. It’s very frustrating to say the least. I hope the Diablo Immortal Team address this confusing issue that hinders players progress, and makes the unlocking difficulty more clear for all players to avoid issues like this in the game.

Thank you for replying to my post, SilentStorm and sharing that info. Cheers! - JJ -

Your call, but yea you gotta finish the original main quest line and the green side quests to unlock hell, main quest shouldn’t take long if you just focus on it, neither should take that long honestly, to put it simply you cant just grind to the hell tier the main quest has to be finished, plus there’s several dungeons it unlocks along the way as well, good luck.

You know you could use the time clear the quests instead of writing long-winded post here.

Also, you need to clear helliquary boss (the green quest I presumed) to unlock the next difficulty. You think you are qualified to clear hell 1,2 or 3 but this game isn’t Diablo 3. Your combat rating dictates whether you can play hell 2 or hell 3. If you forced yourself to play hell 3 without reaching the combat rating requirement, you will get one shot by hell 3 mobs and dealing a single digit damage on those monsters as well.

  • Update On Original Post -

Hey All!

Here’s an update on my original post and shoutout to @SilentStorm for mentioning the extra quests in the game! Thank you! Regardless of this, there is no clear path or info on the questline itself that leads to the Helliquary Raid, which finally unlocks Hell difficulty in Diablo Immortal for eligible players.

So as I logged back in just 30 plus minutes ago, I discovered an unknown quest to do the Rift Challenge level 8, which is odd since I am way past that level in Rift Challenges, but decided to do it again, and killed the final boss. After doing this I got a quest drop that lead to Rayek appearing and making several short quests available by the Tree in Central Square in Westmarch. This lead me to a short quest with Charsi, then Cain, and back to Rayek, and finally the Helliquary Raid quest became available for me so I can finally unlock Hell difficulty.

Like wow! How annoying and ridiculous! Why wasn’t this more clear in the game. How would any player know to re-do a Rift Challenge 8 quest that leads to this. It’s just ridiculous how unclear all of this is as I said before. Very confusing. The good news is, it’s not bugged!

Once I unlock Hell difficulty I will post some helpful info on this subject, and share some clear info on how to unlock Hell difficulty in the game to help other players that may also be confused about how to get to this point.

I read many posts in the forums and reddit about how players couldn’t figure out how to unlock Hell difficulty, and experienced the same, confusing, buggy issue I had with Rayek and Cain not making any quests available, or having any info on how to get to this point. It’s ridiculous. It took me some guessing what green quests to do, which lead me to this point. Luckily, I chose the Rift Challenge 8 quests lol.

So BIG thanks again to SilentStorm for mentioning the extra green quests, although I had no idea which green quest to take that would lead to the questline that finally got me to having access to the Lassal Raid quest in the Helliquary. I decided to try a few and figured why not re-do Rift Challenge 8 again lol. Like how is any player suppose to know any of this in Diablo Immortal!? Sheesh!

Like I said before, Blizzard / Diablo Immortal Team can really make things more clear in the game for all players, especially when it comes to important questlines that allow the player to make progress in the game, which unlocks Hell difficulty levels.

Well, that’s all for now. Cheers! - JJ -

The entire point of the green guide quests is that the player is supposed to do them whilst levelling up, i.e. they’re literally taking you through the levelling process. The quest to kill the mob in Challenge Rift 8 is an incredibly early quest because I’ve seen players as low as level 30 asking for the kill of Lassal (Normal), i.e. they’ve done all of the previous steps of the guide quests to get to that point. If your hero was level 60 and hadn’t done this yet, that means you completely ignored this section of the guide quests whilst levelling.

The entire point of those green quests is that they’re supposed to guide you on the way through the levelling process and/or the main storyline. Anyway, now that you’ve unlocked Hell 1, in case it’s not clear how to progress to Hell 2, this is done by killing the end raid boss of the Hell 1 difficulty. Progressing to Hell 3 is done by killing the end raid boss of Hell 2. An so on, until you get a special case at the end of Hell 8 where, to progress into Inferno 1, you not only have to kill the end boss of Hell 8, you also have to reach Paragon 799. On doing both of those (para 799 and the boss kill) you’re directed into your hero’s inventory to click on the XP bar, view a tutorial about what changes in Inferno, and are asked to confirm you wish to proceed).

Now the real grind begins lol

Or you just do all the quests. Later you need to do the quest to unlock the pet system too.

Update: 1/5/2024 -

I must say, I am enjoying playing Diablo Immortal ever since I started playing again. It reminds me a lot of Diablo 3. It is definitely much better than Diablo IV, and much more fun, diverse and rewarding.

Although some things in the game are a bit confusing, and the UI could use some improvements, I really like Diablo Immortal more now since I got some time to play again.

There are many things to do and discover in Diablo Immortal, and the fact that there is a Leaderboard and many other fun things to do, all of these features should be in Diablo IV, but unfortunately not. Players are friendly and helpful too, just like D3. Hopefully, Blizzard will finally do something about D4 and make it a lot better for all D4 players, sooner than later. Even though D4 Season 2 was better and more fun to play, and I enjoyed, Diablo IV needs a lot more fixing, improvements and many QoL features that are still missing in the game. I hope D4 gets better soon!

But for now, I am enjoying Diablo Immortal very much. I got three of my favorite classes to max level, Necromancer, Paragon level 308, Blood Knight Paragon level 70, Crusader Paragon level 16, and now working on my Barbarian character - got him to level 44 and will get him to max level by tomorrow. Loving the Barbarian and Crusader classes in the game. My last character is my Demon Hunter at level 28, but it will be a while before I get him leveled and geared up properly lol.

After playing the Barbarian, it is definitely a fun class to play. From what I read on some gaming sites and YouTube, the top tier classes in Diablo Immortal are Barbarian and Crusader, (S-Tier), and both are my absolute favorites! My Necromancer character is also solid and fun to play, (A-Tier). Blood Knight and Demon Hunter are fun too, but not as much as Barbarian, Crusader and Necromancer. Overall, I’m definitely enjoying playing Diablo Immortal much more than before.

On another note, I wish Diablo Immortal gave players the ability to share gear / loot and cosmetics / transmog, gold and materials in the game like all other Blizzard games, specifically Diablo games that allow account wide sharing of in game resources between characters. Not sure why this awesome and helpful feature is not available in Diablo Immortal? It would be a lot more appealing and convenient to have for all Diablo Immortal players. That’s for sure!

The other thing in the game that is very confusing is when you upgrade Familiars (companions) in the game, and what are the real benefits for players. I read in another post in this forum that some players upgraded their Familiar and it was downgraded instead of upgraded. Ouch! That doesn’t sound right at all.

I got my Familiars to max level on all my characters, but after reading about upgrading issues with Familiar companions in the game I will just wait before doing any further upgrading to avoid some potential bug or having my upgrade become a downgrade, which makes no sense if you lose a Familiar when upgrading another. I understand the Familiar companion is a new thing in Diablo Immortal, so I will simply wait for future updates and improvements with more clarity relating to Familiars in the game.

In the meantime, I am enjoying the game and thanks again for your feedback, SilentStorm! It helped me overcome a confusing and annoying hurdle in the game. Much appreciated, my friend and Happy Gaming All! Cheers! - JJ -

Just in case you’re unaware of it, you can change your hero’s class at an NPC in Westmarch. The cooldown on this is 24 hours. If you want to play multiple classes, just to see what they’re like, this is much more effective than trying to level multiple heroes because, by concentrating on a single hero, you’ll increase their paragon levels, gear ranks, essence extractions, warband tableau level and helliquary level much easier than if you’re splitting your play time between multiple heroes.

Oh WOW! That is awesome! I didn’t know that! That is a very cool feature to have in any game like Diablo! Thank you so much for sharing that Meteorblade! You rock, my friend! Are there any prior requirements to do this?

Important question: Do I lose my paid transmog / cosmetics or my new companion (Familiars) I purchased and got to max level, or any corresponding Legendary gear and class specific specs if I change my Hero’s class? I purchased seven cosmetic sets for all four of my favorite class characters, along with other cosmetics I obtained in game from events, and battle pass etc. since I started playing over a year ago, mainly for my Necromancer, Blood Knight, Crusader and recently my Barbarian class character. I don’t want to lose that or have to re-purchase it again.

But if nothing is lost and the class change is a simple conversion, along with legendary gear, pets, and cosmetics etc. that would be so cool and epic! Again, thank you for sharing this info with me. It sounds awesome. I just want to make sure I don’t lose anything important that I build up and paid for with any character I choose to do a class change with. I will definitely look into this further for sure.

Cheers and Happy weekend! - JJ -

Correct me if I am wrong but cosmetic items don’t convert and are not account wide, and I think the left side green gear does not convert the primary stat?

Updated: 2/20/2024

The Hero class change feature is very cool. However, any cosmetics you purchase do not roll over / convert to the new Hero, but you do retain your cosmetics when you switch back to the original Hero class you were before the change. In other words, players would need to buy cosmetics for every class they change to for the main Hero you are using, but you don’t lose your original cosmetics.

Blizzard / Diablo Immortal should change this restriction when players do a Hero class change that paid for cosmetics for any particular class, and should be made available upon the completion of the change. It makes no sense to purchase the same cosmetics for the same class twice. Other than that, it is a cool feature in the game.

On the other hand, there are seven (7) classes in Diablo Immortal, and I don’t understand why there are only five (5) character slots in this game!? It’s a rather messed up for Blizzard / NetEase to have this type of restriction and add the hero class change as an option which is not great if you don’t want to be changing classes back and forth. It makes no sense to not have 7 character slot in Diablo Immortal! None!?

For example: I have a Demon Hunter which I like, but wanted to try the Wizard class so the only way to do it is by doing a class change, which is NOT ideal, especially if you like playing the new class, which I actually like the Wizard in Diablo Immortal. It is fun. So again, expanding the character creation slots to 7 would be common sense and much better than this ridiculous class change.

The only okay part of the class change is any gear gets replaced with the same type of gear with corresponding specs for the Hero class a player changes to, and you keep your old gear in case you want to switch back, which is good. But Blizzard / NetEase should expand the character slots to 7 for the seven classes the game has! - Cheers! - JJ -

I queue for quick matchmaking groups for the Lassal raid all day and the timer always gets to 5 minutes and times out and forces me to requeue. I have like 5 characters sitting around waiting to get into the Lassal raid so that I can put the game into Hell mode. In the two weeks I started playing again I have managed to get 1/6 characters into the raid.

Mandatorily forcing you to have to rely on others to complete these types of tasks is quite a nuisance. Sure, when the game first released it was no big deal, but now there is no longer tons of people queueing for it. Need to replace this method.

Have you considered using World Chat and asking for someone to help you with it? Whenever I see requests for it, I invite them to party, convert to raid, zone in, and 2 seconds later the boss is dead. Total time from asking to having your raid done… under 10 seconds.

If the person’s hero is at least level 60, I’ll also take them through all the end bosses of each difficulty up to Hell 8 Phangwrth, so they have all Hell difficulties unlocked and, once they get to para 799, they can instantly progress into Inferno 1.

Are there no helpful people on the server you’re on, or have you just not asked for help?

Your mistake there. Asking for help in World Chat is faster. Plus, it is kinda expected that you will be hard pressed to find a party to do lower content since most people are playing at higher difficulty; Inferno.

Idk if you figured this out but you don’t need all the green quests done. You need the main quests done and you need to do the heliquary bosses to unlock hell 1. Them the new boss to get hell 2 etc. It tells you right in the game how to unlock it. And you can solo the raids, just make a raid group and then hit enter.

I hear you my friend. But Meteorblade and Kilometer shared some good points to help you in your game journey. I been playing often when I get a chance between work, so if I am on feel free to reach out and message me in the game. I would be happy to help you with my main character, which is a level 1170 Paragon and counting. Cheers! - JJ -
