Someone posted a screenshot of an official statement on the DI Reddit that transferring the platinum and normal gems from your alt to your main account is not allowed.
I guess that cleared it up for those who are still wondering whether it is legal to use alts to transfer platinum / normal gems to the main account.
Although it would be nice for CM to post an official statement and pin it in the forum too.
The only problem is that it wasn’t an official statement. A GM is not a source of an official statement and at least in the EU it’s not feasible to try to enforce such restrictions. It also contradicts a prevous response from similar source in a content creator’s interview where actally the opposite was stated.
some things arent smart to comment on if when investigated it was discovered enforcement action would lead to a dramatic decrease in revenue due to banning such a large amount of players who still spend money weekly. Think about it. This is business, not fairness.(if you dont think most whales have alt transferred plat as well as buying stuff on shop, you’re poorly mistaken)
they love their grey space, its like the whole susan bot thing. They love dangling risky things and then slapping you with the rules which half the time they dont appear to follow
Well, you seem to have forgotten that F2P can also do transfers among their alts, which obviously don’t benefit the company, so it is not surprising if these F2P are the first ones to go if they decide to take action.
I don’t like change class … this is the reason why I have 5 alt chracters…
8 months ago I’ve opened a support ticket in order to have confirmation that “unlike Gold and Platini, the eternal orbs are ‘shared’ between the characters”.
Here the Game Master’s reply : “I understand that you have a question about Eternal Orbs. This is a account-wide currency, this means that your Eternal Orbs are shared between all your characters. You need to login to the character in order to update the orbs change.
Keep in mind that platinum, can be shared across characters and platforms.”
Unfortunatelly he/she didn’t explaing how to do it …
But maybe after 8 months things are changed …
yup, this is the kind of response you will get. If they enforce this action and make it a rule, they lose tons of money, because yes f2p make platinum this way, but they wouldnt spend either way. Spenders still transfer plat with alts to min max their spending and reso and normal gems, so enforcing the action just makes them lose those players money, and those players would still spend the same if they could/could not transfer plat. So the smartest thing to do is leave it a grey area, neither confirming its a rule nor ever saying they will enforce it.
That’s not true. Platinum that f2p players gain this way are mostly bought by spenders in one way or another. Ie. if you sell gems with your alt the other player who buys them is most likely a spender who wouldn’t spend as much if there wouldn’t be a supply that s/he can buy.
Untrue. F2P that does that is not their potential customer, so they have no reason to spare F2P players.
Also, those who usually bring the gems to market is not F2P but an army of automated farmers. The owners don’t care whether their alt accounts got banned as long as they are able to transfer the platinum in time.
I have argued this kind of activity is not beneficial to them not that f2p get the first shots. You need plat to buy those gems and that cost money so in the end f2p players also contribute to the revenue.
Sure but there are only limited sources of shop gems. You need ~20k for a rank10 and you can buy something like 50-60, maybe 100 gems per month? That’s barely enough to make any noticable difference. Currently f2p players are very much needed to keep the economy somewhat healthy and by banning them in a large numbers they would discourage new players to join the game.
As i said before, it was platinum seller “armies” that keep the market healthy, not F2P players.
You seems under a false assumption that Blizzard wants to keep the economy healthy when they really wanted is spenders spend money to buy the stuffs from their shop, not for F2P to get stronger without spending a single cent by using alts.
