I’ve found the Familiar’s ability to automatically pick up gold / orbs / items a fantastic addition to the game, as it means I don’t have to back-track to pick stuff up when farming. However, I do have questions…
Why do familiars only pick up white / blue / yellow items?
Why do they leave behind legendary / set items?
In a similar vein to this…
…could the Familiars be changed to pick up all loot types?
I practically see no reason why people wouldn’t want to pick legendary automatically here even if it is trash.
So yeah, everything should be automatically picked up. This 2023, and soon to be 2024 and I am still surprised that we can’t auto-pick legendary/set items. No one will intentionally leave it on ground.
You can leave them on the floor and collect them later from mail which is the closest to auto pickup.
Tbh it could be some psychological stuff like it increases the excitement if the player has to pick them up manually.
They used this argument for years in Diablo III for why we couldn’t have auto-pickup for walking over items (all items, i.e. white / blue / yellow / legendary / set) but clearly they changed their mind for Immortal. It just seems daft they’d implement it for the least important loot and leave the best loot on the floor.
Immortal is a mobile game with a pc port hence the auto loot for common items. D4 also doesn’t have auto loot so they didn’t changed their mind actually.
At this point, I’m just going to mention the Altar of Rites in D3 seasons (it was in Season 28 and will be in all seasons from S30 onwards) has a node which enables the hero’s cosmetic pet to automatically pick up white / blue / yellow loot and salvage it into materials, and pick-up of Death’s Breaths, i.e. the D3 equivalent of a familiar not only picks up items, it auto-salvages them, which means you don’t have to go back to town to see the Blacksmith.
