So i saw a post about hidden lairs by Kilometer & it gave me a new content idea

let’s go a bit further into the repurposing idea of hidden lairs… feedback is encouraged & appreciated

obviously verge has stomped out lairs in terms of purpose & efficiency….but why not make hidden lairs useful again by utilizing them as a gateway to new content… AHERM DEVS :eyes:

in d3 killing goblins would randomly spawn portals to the vault or whimsyshire.

d2 & d3 also had hidden cow lvl using the cube

new dungeons & maps have been introduced, so it’s doable… we have treasure goblins already, so why not reintroduce the vault & the treasure goblin king??

within the vault, all drops are leggo with heightened drop rate for eternal leggos & potential for ancient gear with goblin kill streaks.

many players find gold useless atp, so let’s give it new purpose….goblin king will attempt to spawn periodically within the vault, but will give the option to bribe him with gold to continue your decent to his vault door & delay his spawn attempt. the more gold, the bigger the delay before he attempts to respawn.

make it to the bottom & slay the treasure goblin king & be rewarded with all the bribery gold +, a various assortment mats & scrap, bound leggo gem chests & bound gems

also why not create a new derivative of the cow portal or whimsyshire??

here’s the incentive… an all new whimsyshire dungeon that drops silver shards instead of scrap, has increased rune drop rate that scales multiplicative to active kill streak & active silver shards collected.

here’s the curveball. the dungeon is on a timer like challenge rifts that can only be extended by killing sub-bosses. killing elites fills the meter that spawns the sub-bosses.

once a sub-boss is defeated, timer pauses & spawns a vendor where u can choose to trade in your collected silver for fading embers before continuing, or continue without trading (essentially gambling on your collected silver +kill streak to net quality runes [bound & unbound])

the caveat. the difficulty increases with each sub-boss slain. monsters have more life & elites have random affixes making them more challenging to defeat. & whatever silver you’re carrying when timer expires or all party members are out of revives, you lose it all.

classic risk vs. reward.
how far do you dare to push?

thoughts?

I detest Erebban / Abyssal Verge, so I still get my weekly gems from Lairs.

I’d much rather see them make Lairs give similar amounts of Battle Pass points to the other two methods of obtaining weekly gems than re-purposing them as a gateway into some mish-mash of Greed’s Lair / Greater Nephalem Rift from Diablo III.

A “secret cow level” or “whimsyshire” or “vault” would be a great idea!

Goblins right now are kind of useless.

We need different kinds like pet goblins and such like d3 had.

News just in from the Chinese Patch Notes…

Halloween Eve: Goblin Attack

During the event, new types of Goblins can be encountered in the wild and in dungeons.

The new goblins include:
● Myth Stealer: will drop a random set and several set essences, only appears in the dungeon
● Malice Tormentor: will drop a random legendary equipment
● Gem Hoarder: will drop bound and unbound small gems, and share the weekly limit with the Demon Prison gameplay
● Abominable Collector: will drop high-quality reinforcement materials
● Scrap Collector: will drop an ore and other crafting materials, subject to the weekly limit

At the same time, the special event “Lord of Greed” will appear in ordinary dungeons, and the ancient dungeons will have new entries “Lord of Greed” and “Goblin Invasion”.

Event duration: October 15, 2025, after maintenance – October 29, 2025, 2:59 AM

It seems you got your wish.

:unamused: meteor i bet ur one of those wall flowers at parties

i think lairs having a potential additional purpose beyond 6 gems would be good for the game.

i don’t believe u either. that your go to for weekly gems is lairs. it’s the most inefficient way to farm weeklies. verge is cakewalk

Players already have two methods of acquiring gems where the mode incorporates time pressure, i.e. Erebban and Verge. The third method, i.e. Lairs, is completely free from time pressure. This suggestion would turn it into a mish-mash of Greed’s Lair / Greater Nephalem Rifts, and thereby make it have time pressure too. That would leave no method of gem acquisition that you could take your time with. Accept that some players do not like this type of gameplay, and like a laid-back and slower way of getting the same goal done.

Whether you believe me or not doesn’t alter the fact that I’m telling the truth.

Literally the only time I step inside Verge or Erebban is when there’s an event that requires me to do so. I hate their timed nature. I like to be able to pause, to have a chat, answer questions, and so on. Stopping to do so in either of these modes means my hero dies. I just have zero interest in that stuff.

I don’t care that Erebban or Verge are a more efficient method. I’m not playing content I don’t like to accomplish a goal when there’s content I quite like that accomplishes the same thing (albeit slower).

–==[ EDIT ]==–

Exhibit A…

I play the mode so infrequently that it had been out for over eight months before I even bothered to try and get to Danger Level 6, and that’s probably only because it was the first time an event required it.
