On Hunt fot the Three server skill stones are listed for 691 plat. After the aution house takes their cut, that’s just about breaking even.
I use plat to buy one legendary crest per week and soon I won’t be able to recycle skill stones to buy even that.
So if the value of skill stones is going to tank I’d like to cash out now.
What else is there to buy with plat that I could get some use out of?
Our server sells them on average for one skill at around 900-1150, with 891 being the lowest I have seen. I won’t sell for under 900. They always sell eventually. If you want a quick set of selling, farm and do your capped 21 Hidden Lairs for the week.
Skill-stones with 4x skills still sell easily for the maximum amount.
Just do not settle for less than 900 with one skill of each class. They are worth that much and people do want them.
Meanwhile, other servers’ economies are different…
That’s skill stones on the The Martyr / Sea of Light / Crystal Arch / Diamond Gates cluster on EU and, as you can see, sorted with Price Low to High selected, the cheapest skill stones are 551 platinum. Now, the Marketplace takes a 15% cut of the sales price so that means, if those actually sell, the seller would receive (0.85 * 551) = 468 plat. Of course, to convert a charm into a skill stone, it cost 500 plat. So, the people selling these stones will be losing 32 plat if anyone actually buys them.
I scrolled through the skill stones on our Marketplace and didn’t find one at 900+ platinum until page 32/72 of the available stones…
So, 31 pages of 4 skill stones per page, means that there are over 120 stones cheaper than 900 plat on the server cluster I play on. Don’t assume that just because they sell for 900+ on your server cluster that all other clusters are the same.
They’re worth what people are willing to pay for them. Anyone listing a single skill stone for 900+ on the server I play on quite simply would never sell it, because there are 120 stones cheaper than that.
This has always been true for many things. However, the moment people get the notion of undercutting others, it will always drive the price down. When people as a whole refuse to lower it, the price becomes the standard expected rate. The silly thing is that it hurts everyone with the server pictures you have shown. Shame really because the skill stones should not sell for the same price it costs to extract them. That is totally counter-productive.
I stop selling that skill stone. I just salvage them into dust. Occasionally i will use one for myself if i found a charm with a skill that my class is using.
And yes, i don’t know why my server is selling skill stone under 500 plat. Suspecting it was someone alt to boost their main account’s charm.
The problem with that is that the market price for the skill stones is not decided by the sellers, it’s the buyers. If sellers list something at 1000 plat that buyers think is worth 600 plat, then the items simply won’t sell. These items aren’t rarities, they’re not in limited supply, and the people buying them can also craft their own. There’s no way for there to be a cartel setting a minimum price because someone will come along and list them cheaper to ensure they get sold.
