People offering to buy accounts / new reporting options

I got this unsolicited direct message in-game today…

World Chat had other people saying they had also received messages like this. I guess this must be a new supplement to the standard Susan spam we’ve all come to know and block.

Anyway, I went to the Report Player option and it seems this screen got some new options…

I have questions…

  • What’s the difference between Character name and Inappropriate name categories? What reason, other than it being inappropriate, would reporting someone’s hero name be valid?
  • Blizzard added options for for terrorism and child abuse. Seriously? I’ve played this game since the day it went live and I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything in chat that would even come close to needing those categories (and wouldn’t they be covered under inappropriate comments anyway). How bad is the chat on other servers / clusters that Blizzard thinks these categories are needed?

I received one of those offers too, only it was $800. I replied (jokingly) with “How about €8000?” I wasn’t expecting further BS. But the “person” came back with “It’s OK , add me on Telegram and I will send the money”.

That’s when I changed the tone to “Trading accounts is forbidden”, reported and blocked the sender and that was it. I used “Other” as reason and explained the situation in the text field.

Yeah they got updated same time as the boot from party options but nothing was said.

I also got one of these offers. Didn’t report it although I probably should’ve done so. I just ignored it.

It made me wonder how, when and what you should use the “offline transaction” and “fraud” for?

Account buying or selling stuff with real money is under what category now? Shouldn’t Spam/Advertisement is enough for these 2 offenses?

and Child Abuse and Terrorist/Violent Content came from nowhere…What happened in those servers that prompted DI Team to add these 2 options?

I figure you can select multiple now? I say that because it is cheating, it is fraud and it will require an offline transaction, if by the latter, they mean outside of being logged in to D.I.
It is probably a scam too but that’s just one more.

Illegitimate transaction covers most of it?

In fun, I have seen some names of characters that could be almost terrorist, but I have not seen any suicide bombers, offers of overthrow, gun-running or hostage negotiations.

Not really. I tried but you can only select one of those options.

Well that sucks if it covers more than one area of breaking the rules. They look like checkboxes, not radio boxes. Maybe they should say “pick one”

EDIT:

This comes under a breach of TOS anyway because children aren’t supposed to be playing it if they are being abused verbally. If a child is being abused physically they’re not supposed to be playing it anyway and if it is an adult playing the game doing the abusing, they wouldn’t report it. Maybe it is their Human Resources ensuring that the corporate aspects are protected is about all that makes the slightest sense with a few of them.
