Hi. Can anyone share their knowledge about the gem: PAIN CLASP? What status /continual damage effect does procs it? (Poison from Rotting Zombies - Putrid Onslaught Helm / Poison Golem, Pulsating bone spikes - The Maloccluse Helm, Poison Corpse Explosion - Rotspur Shoulders, Bleeding, Burn or Decay). Thanks!!!
I believe pretty much any continual damage or damage over time effect will proc it: burn, poison, bleed, ground effects, etc. These effects can be from your skills, other legendary gems and even from attacks by your pet. If you want to check this for any particular effect, it is easy to do using the test dummy in Westmarch. When the gem procs it shows up in the effects display (just under your avatar, but can be expanded).
I think anything that deals damage over time will procs it.
all poison damage procs PAIN CLASP, but I still need to check bleed, burn, familiar skill (weird-looking caterpillar), and pulsating ground spike.
I play a Barb.
- I use Lacerate with the Rending Bite essence, that causes a bleed.
- I use Wrath of the Berserker with the Sundered Legacy essence, that causes fire over time.
- I use the Viper’s Bite gem, that causes a damage over time effect.
All of those effects can proc my Pain Clasp gem.
nice to know dear sir, but have you tried removing the Viper’s Bite gem and test those skills if it procs PAIN CLASP? I tried experimenting just now, when equipped wit the Viper’s Bite gem, even my basic primary skill procs PAIN CLASP.
Burn definitely trigger Pain Clasp because i am playing fire build.
But yeah, just use Viper If you want to trigger the Pain Clasp if you build doesn’t have DoT.
Yes, I am a huge fan of Viper now coz it goes hand in hand with Pain Clasp giving normal skills a DoT effect. However, I hope the Devs will fix the virtual bug soon. If you notice, there is no indicator for the Viper gem whenever it activates. Though if you look closely, you could notice the “greenish smoke” that appears on the target whenever any kind of damage is dealth.
Not only pain clasp, but even set items focusing on continual damage will benefit from Viper too.
So as long as you have Viper, you don’t worry about squeezing any dot skill in your build.
Yes, I agree and in my experiment, even normal attacks that don’t do continual damage are automatically converted into DoT, procsing Pain Clasp gem. you may try it in the dummy-practice area. So, basically, all attacks are converted into DoT when Viper gem is equipped.
I know for sure Lacerate’s bleed and WotB’s burn procs Pain Clasp because I’ve been using those for months, and I only got my Viper’s two weeks ago. The bleed and burn also count towards sets that rely on damage over time, e.g. grace.
Well, it’s great to know that bleed and burn procs PAIN CLASP.
You can tell if it’s proc by the movement speed buff in ur buffs tab
