Guaranteed Legendary Gem drop in World Zone

Proposal: Legendary Gem World Drop System — Mob-Based Counter (With Weekly Cap + Event Scaling)

Dear Diablo Immortal Dev Team,

I would like to propose a balanced system to introduce Legendary Gem world drops via open world farming. This system provides reliable progression, supports monetization integrity, and opens up powerful event design opportunities.

The Core System

Introduce a hidden (or visible) point counter that tracks open-world mob kills. After reaching certain thresholds, the player is guaranteed a Legendary Gem drop.

Point System:
• White (normal) mobs = 1 point
• Blue (champion) mobs = 10 points
• Yellow (rare elites) = 50 points
• Orange/Purple (bosses/minibosses) = 100 points

Threshold:
• Every 5,000 total points = 1 guaranteed Legendary Gem drop.

Eligible Content:
• Open world zones
• Helltide events
• Bounties
• Zone events
• Open world world bosses
• Shadow Contracts
• Warband activities

Weekly Cap System (Monetization & Balance)
• Limit guaranteed 5-Star Legendary Gem drops to 2 per week.
• Additional completions beyond the cap can still drop Legendary Gems via normal RNG but with standard drop rates and reduced 5-star odds.
• This ensures long-term sustainability, fairness, and monetization stability.

Special Events & Seasonal Boosts

To further increase engagement during seasonal events, developer-run promotions, or limited-time content:
• Temporary event modifiers may:
• Increase drop rates for guaranteed Legendary Gems.
• Raise the weekly 5-star cap temporarily (e.g. from 2 to 4).
• Reduce point thresholds during events (e.g. 5,000 → 3,000 temporarily).
• These temporary boosts give players exciting reasons to engage heavily during events while preserving game economy balance over time.

Safeguards

Afk farming concerns addresses:

A limit of the amount of points allowed per zone would require players to be more active and make It harder for AFK farmers to benefit from system.

Benefits of the System
• Adds meaningful world-farming progression without destabilizing gem markets.
• Incentivizes long-term open world content engagement.
• Provides steady, fair progression for all player types.
• Allows Blizzard to create monetizable, hype-driven event windows.
• Encourages players to log in consistently.

Thank you for your consideration. I believe this system can provide long-term player satisfaction while fitting Blizzard’s design goals and business model.

Sincerely,
Annur — Diablo Immortal Meshif

so lets make afk farming worse?

At least nobody would cry about the class balance in Battlegrounds anymore, because 100% of the players would be Necromancers :joy:

It would provide AFK farmers free legendary gems whilst they’re asleep.

Terrible idea.

DI team isn’t a charity body. At best, they will give the players a limited 1* star gem every month, not unlimited access.

I guess adding in some safeguards would be best way to prevent that. The whole point is to give newcomers and grinders a way to compete with whales if you are willing to put in the work. Why wouldn’t you want Legendary gems to be available in world zones?

Like what? How would you ensure that players who are in control of their heroes whilst farming could obtain these, but players that are AFK / asleep whilst their hero auto-farms for them don’t?

Why would you want to reward AFK / asleep farmers with legendary gems?

That’s not something Blizzard and Netease want. What they want is to ensure the whales keep spending and to do that whales need to have plenty of low reso players stomp in PvP. They don’t want fair competition because it would go against their monetisation model.

Also the AFK playing is already out of control, let’s not make it worse.

cuz its a p2w game? it goes against the core purpose of the game, to spend $ to compete

That wouldn’t make it worse if it were in just one zone.
ALL of the AFK Farmers would be there and the rest of us can enjoy all of the other zones.

not at all, for many gem food is useless, they want the paragon lvls and lego drops that come with it. That is the only reason they afk farm, so there is no incentive for them to go to a zone that doesn’t give what they need. This idea might be thought out but it in no way factors in the reasoning of many afk farmers

When you ask what type of safeguard against AFK players, they could put in something like YouTube does with a "are you still watching box”
Have it pop up after 15 minutes of a player not moving in a box located somewhere on the screen and if they don’t click that box or check mark within a two or three minute time frame it boots you off the server.
That will eliminate AFK farming right there.
As an added protection, make it to where the pop-up boxes in random locations this way people cannot make macros to click that check mark on that box.

LOL. Not even close. It’ll just mean they’ll have software to click the “Yes, I’m here” button for them, regardless of where on-screen it appears, which means the players that are already willing to be cheating by having their hero farm for them whilst they’re AFK / asleep will not be stopped by this. However, if a player who’s controlling their hero stays in a small area farming, they will be interrupted by this / annoyed by this.

So…

  • Upside: you potentially stop some cheaters
  • Downside: you potentially annoy and interrupt all legitimate players

I don’t believe that the legitimate players would have any problem with that annoyance.
I can’t stand AFK farmers.
You know some of you who go after those who present ideas to stop AFK farming, you come across as being in support of AFK farming.
That’s just my two cents on that.

Well, you’re wrong. I’m already annoyed by the “Are you here?” popup during Assembly if I stand still for a miniscule amount of time. Any unnecessary popup during actual gameplay that would need to be manually dismissed would be aggravating beyond belief.

its called bad blood, they got rid of it in ow

plus afaik its completely useless one too

I’d absolutely have a problem with it, especially as it would be introducing an annoyance for players that aren’t doing anything wrong to try and combat players that are cheating.

We already receive more than that through events…. I’m being realistic not pessimistic. Two 5 star gems is a lot for a free to play player. Plus competition will be more common place for the mid spenders and maybe the whales in Time who might just spend more and make blizzard happy. If they are happy we are all happy. Not like it won’t be a grind to level up the Legendary Gems to rank 10 even with such a system.

What? Currently f2p players are guaranteed one 5* in about every 8 weeks and you want them to increase that amount by 16 times? I’ve read many ridicolous ideas but this one most detached from reality so far.
