Greetings Adventurers!

I come to you today with news of a grand Tournament coming to Sanctuary, one where teams of 8 will face off against each other to prove they have what it takes to be crowned the best in their regions!

Prepare for the Bout of Realms!

The Bout of Realms is a multistage Tower War PvP competition that will pit teams of 8 against other teams across servers within their home region. The winners of each region will earn themselves the everlasting glory of being crowned a champion of the Bout of Realms, as well as earning illustrious cosmetic rewards, Legendary Gems, a slew of Legendary Crests, and more!

Information and Timelines:

Registration
August 13 āˆ’ August 17, 3 a.m. local server time
Register for Bout of Realms by forming a party of up to 8 players. Party members can be swapped at any time within the registration period. Once registration has ended on August 17, parties are locked and cannot be changed. Choose your teammates wisely, for they will be your key to success.

Preliminaries
August 18 āˆ’ August 22
During Preliminaries, each team will participate in a total of 15 matches, which take place each day at 9 p.m., 9:30 pm, and 10 p.m. local server time. This is 5 days of 3 back to back battles each, so be prepared before you commit yourself to a team. Your party will be counting on you!

Preliminaries matches grant:

  • 3 points for a win
  • 1 point for a loss
  • 0 points for a forfeit

Ties are decided by the number of kills made during the matches. Participating in the Preliminaries earns you a Legendary item, Gold, scrap and Dust. Once Preliminaries have concluded the top scoring teams will advance. Up to 64 teams will move forward to the Finals, depending on server size.

Finals: August 25 āˆ’ August 29: In the finals, 64 teams across servers compete for the top 4 spots in a best of three elimination match each night at 9 p.m. local server time. The winners will advance to the next night, while the losers will be eliminated. After determining the winners of the Final 2 teams, the winners will progress to the Championship Match, while the runner ups will compete in the Third-Place Match.

Third Place Match: August 30 9 p.m. - local server time: - The teams fighting for the Third Place finish will battle it out in a Best of 5 format to determine the victor.

Championship Match: August 31 9 p.m. - local server time: This is the big one! The top 2 teams will battle it out in a best of 5 format against their designated opponents. The winning team in the Championship Match will be crowned the Champion, while the losing team will be runner-up.

Rewards

Besides the fame, glory and notoriety of winning the Bout of Realms, winning teams will walk away with a number of rewards, some of which are rare and invaluable cosmetics, and some of which is aid you further in your quests and adventures in Sanctuary!

Note: Items with a duration noted next to them are ephemeral treasures, and will expire after the set duration.

4th Place:

Top 5-32 Teams:

Top 33-64 Teams:

Winning a Match during the Preliminaries awards additional rewards:

  • 100x Reinforced Scrap
  • 10,000 Gold

NOTE: These are an early draft of the Rewards. The Rewards are still in their tuning stage and are subject to change. Please verify the rewards in-game as the competition begins.

Gather your allies, and prepare to take part in this iteration of our previous Bout of Realms events. We hope that you will enjoy this competition, and give us your feedback on how we can grow and improve it.

Our goal with this event is to create a PvP tournament that is decoupled from the Cycle of Stryfe, and pits players from multiple servers against each other. We want to continue to evolve this mode over time, and continue to push it into a more competitive space with each iteration.

UPDATE: Weā€™ve seen some questions surrounding Team composition, and wanted to clarify that your team must be built from users on your Server. The Tournament does not go cross-server until the Top 64 teams stage.

Great, another tournament for whales!

Honestly it should have resonance categories. Thereā€™s no way anyone is winning vs whoever has the 13k reso guys.

This is like putting prime Tyson vs Pacquiao and act surprised Tyson won.

so let me get this right, we need to set aside time to do FIFTEEN matches just for the preliminaries and spend 2 weeks with a dedicated hour or so to pvp consistently ?

You donā€™t think this is a bit of overkill demanding our time?

So people with jobs and families who are still hardcore players are going to have to sacrifice adult obligation for 2 weeks to have a chance at being high in this event?

Why not just make it over the course of a weekend and just 3-4 matches, followed by 3 final matches.

You guys make this game more and more casual and then release an event that is 10x more demanding than events in hardcore MMOs.

What a long way of telling 99% of your customers to ignore an event because the only people that can possibly win this are the 13K resonance whales.

Not sure why they bother doing this event. It wasnā€™t well received the previous time and it isnā€™t now either.

To milk more money from the whales? Theyā€™re already pretty much as powerful as they can get so whereā€™s the incentive to spend more? And there are only certain amount potential whales anyway so they wonā€™t be attracting new ones either.

I really donā€™t see the point of this event.

They need to put some focus into new money not just old. The bigger the divide gets the less survivability the game will have. New players are more likely to be f2p or low spend, why? Because the divide is so wide there is no incentive to pay more. Plus like you also said there is only so much whales will spend since they have it all handily now.

The game is separated into three geographical regionsā€¦

  • Asia
  • Europe
  • Americas

So, whichever of those regions your hero is in.

These teams will be made of players from across servers? So itā€™s not just 8 whales from 1 server, but the 8 whaliest whales across the whole region teamed up?

We can save you a lot of time and effort running this event and just give you the names of the 8 people to send the rewards to now.

Even as a moderate spender I fail to see why I would bother with this event. Absolute best case I commit 7.5 hours of preliminaries to win maybe 10 matches. Iā€™m sure not making the semis with my stats. 10 legos and some scrap isnā€™t worth the hassle and giving up my usual weekly plans.

I think it was well received on China so they keep doing it, and NA DI team probably just roll it out to the world as well since the feature is already there, so why nor. :laughing:

To the DI team in charge of managing these sorts of events :

Do you know how hard it is, just to find 7 reliable teammates whoā€™ll be ready to attend all the matches ? Especially in August, when everyone is on holidays ?

And given this, you want us to do 15 preliminary matches just to get crappy rewards ?

You actually think weā€™re going to shake up our IRL schedules, put up with 15 matches between 9 and 10pm, just to receive the exact same CRAP that we can get by doing just a few hours of farming anytime we please ?

Yo, in which parallel world are you living ?

Yes, we know : one where all players are stupid, milking whales is the main goal, and providing entertainment for 90% of the user base is merely an afterthought.

This being said, we might be stupid, but thereā€™s still a limit to our stupidity.

Few of us will waste our time with your non-event, unless we at least receive decent rewards (permanent cosmetics, legendary crests, etc) for attending the preliminaries.

Let the whales have fun in their cornerā€¦ they will make good use of the 45/60/90/150 legendary crests :laughing:

thats not true at all 64 teams get 15 crests its under 10 minutes worth of game play probs the last 4-5 matches i would assume the first 6-7 will be over super fast, so its probs less then 2 hours worth of game play over all, and there limited cloaks titles everything, but they cant always cater to every ones needs , sometimes its whale some times its all , the racer event was all most of the top placing teams where using 2 stars in there whole set ups

man, atm i hate to say yes this is a whale event, but look at the rewards if you free to play and expecting more leggo crests as a reward then you have ever spent on the game, maybe this games not for you, enjoy the event for what it is team pvp 8 v 8 fun event and honestly top 64 teams getting rewards is still worth showing up for im sure heaps of 3-5k roster teams will be getting rewards, sorry but im with the devs on this one and the last event, i didnt even get my racers rewards because of a bug , and i still think the event was awesome spending time with friends blasting pvp vs other players you know, win or lose this is what the game is about not wheres my crests!..
keep up the good work a hit or a miss with a event is still better the no content at all guys

An event like this one caters to maybe 100 players world-wide.

Despite that, Blizzard will wonder why the rest of the player base will just completely ignore it.

Theyā€™ve created an event which, for at least 99% of their players, is completely pointless to take part in.

Then theyā€™ll wonder why the event gets so little involvement from the players.

It ably demonstrates how tone-deaf this is.

This content is pointless for 99% of the players. Itā€™s effectively no content.

top 64 teams get 15 crests and a banner thats 8 x 64 512 players not to mention other things like cloaks , if you want to win this event go spend 400k , like honestly im sorry this event is for all players you just cant see it
