After finding yet another AUD rune, I decided to have some fun and do a bit of math to see how many I’d need to make something I actually wanted, a LEV rune. And I was VERY surprised at the number I ended up with!
I used AUD as the base and calculated how many I’d need to make each category’s end member. And here’s the results!
It takes 19,683 AUD to make 1 BOL.
It takes 4,782, 969 AUD to make 1 ECE.
It takes 1,162,261,467 AUD to make 1 FA. Yes, that’s a billion +
It takes 282,429,536,481 AUD to make 1 LEV.
282 BILLION! Are there even that many AUDS in existance?
And now for a truly absurd and hilarious consideration. At 1 synthesis every second, it would take 8,955 years, 285 days, 9 hours, 1 minute, 21 seconds to make a LEV from 282,429,536,481 AUD runes. That’s non-stop without eating, sleeping or breaks.
Yeah, I don’t have 9000 years for that. I’d need to be IMMORTAL!
Whilst open-world farming this morning, I got an ATI rune drop.
How many low level runes was that worth?
–=[ EDIT ]=–
1 ATI rune = 3 ECE runes
3 ECE runes = 9 RAE runes
9 RAE runes = 27 VOX runes
27 VOX runes = 81 DRO runes
81 DRO runes = 243 ENT runes
243 ENT runes = 729 BOL runes
729 BOL runes = 2187 IMM runes
2187 IMM runes = 6561 SYL runes
6561 SYL runes = 19683 ORD runes
19683 ORD runes = 59049 LUX runes
59049 LUX runes = 177147 PYR runes
177147 PYR runes = 533441 NIE runes
533441 NIE runes = 1594323 WEH runes
1594323 WEH runes = 4782969 NOU runes
4782969 NOU runes = 14348907 AUD runes

Oooooh! An ATI! That’s actually a decent rune.
It’s too bad there isn’t some mechanism in the game that stops grey level runes from dropping after all the equipment slots are filled. Just in terms of resources, the game wouldn’t need to keep records of millions of grey runes just sitting in our stashes, never to be used.
I made a list of all runes and how many Aud runes are needed to craft one. The later numbers are a bit smaller than those of BleatBox, because starting from Laz onwards, only 2 runes are needed for the next upgrade. Still a lot of runes though.

So, you’re saying there’s a chance?
I wonder if anyone’s actually had a Raum drop.
Ahh, I didn’t know only 2 runes were needed past LAZ. Not that I’d ever have a chance of making any of those anyway. Still, the numbers really point out the absurdity for requirements for any rune that’s somewhat decent.
And the market prices on them are really out of whack. AUDS should be 1 platinum for at least a thousand of them. Or RAUMS should be in the billions of platinum.

Yeah, a snowballs chance as the old saying goes.
The chance comment was a Dumb and Dumber reference…
