Catching a leg fish - hero's journey chapter 2

So I have to get this done. I"ve caught 10 different ones so far, I think you need 15 to get the next fishing rod. I hope you can do this without getting the 35 you need for the next rod.
Any hints or tips to make this easier?
PS I hate fishing.

Sadly no. You just need to do fishing a lot. That being said, some fish can be only caught in a certain time frame.

When you first cast your line into the water, the fishing bar at the top of the screen consists of three distinct colours, i.e. grey, blue and yellow.

You need to wait until the timer is in the yellow section. It’s in that section where you can catch rare (yellow), legendary (orange) or mythic (purple) fish.

When the fishing line twitches to indicate that a fish is on the line, you’ll get a slider which moves left and right along the bar. You have to click the fishing button to keep your fishing bobber within the slider until the fish is caught.

Okay, that’s the generalities of it, now to your specific question. The quality of fish that you have on your line is indicated by the width and speed of the slider on the bar, i.e.

  • wide / slow = rare fish (yellow)
  • narrow / slow = legendary fish (orange)
  • narrow / fast = mythic fish (purple)

If you get the wide/slow slider, don’t catch the fish by just not clicking the fishing button. That fish will get away, and your hero re-casts the line. Within the yellow section of the fishing bar timer, you will get up to three bites. So, if the first bite is rare, let it go, if the second bite is rare, let it go, but you might as well catch the third one regardless of whether it’s rare or not, as otherwise you don’t catch anything.

One other thing, if you do get into the whole fishing thing, is the fish are an excellent way to store XP up for after a weekly reset, or for a push to a paragon goal (e.g. 400 in seven weeks or so). That’s because of the XP they give when you hand them in, i.e.

  • Legendary fish = 150K XP (at 100% XP rate)
  • Mythic fish = 500K XP (at 100% XP rate)

The XP gained is affected by your hero’s XP modifier, i.e. if you’re above the server’s paragon level, and suffering from an XP penalty, the fish hand-in XP is affected by that.

However, let’s say you end up on Sunday at Server+10. You fish up 20 mythic fish. You wait until Monday’s reset, the server gains 10 paragon levels, and your hero is now the same paragon as the server, so earning XP at 100% rate. Handing in 20 mythic fish would get you 20 * 500K XP = 10 million XP, i.e. 2.85 paragon level’s worth of XP.

This is why folks keep a stock of fish for weeks that will see pushes towards big paragon milestones, so they can get a couple of paragon levels first thing on a Monday.

Anyway, good luck with your Hero’s Journey task.

Thanks for your post. I’ve actually caught the leg fish, an eel, which gets the journey nearly done. No skill involved, just sheer dumb luck. Not even getting the next rod.
I didn’t know people did that with fish. I don’t think I could do that. Way beyond my limit.
