Can someone explain Vanguard Corruption Overflow?

It’s entirely possible for all four players to run apart from each other and still die on the explosion. That’s the whole point of the thread. You could split up every time and sometimes you’d die, sometimes you wouldn’t.

No, I’m saying that once you reach a certain level of charm (especially the Defence charm that provides a shield) you can then stop worrying about the effect. Prior to that, I had a defence charm (so I was shielding the party prior to the explosion), I had the legendary paragon node that grants shields to all party members when using a buff, I had Undying Rage on and, despite having all of those available, and the party splitting for overflow, sometimes I’d still die because the overflows occurred more frequently than the mitigating abilities could counter them. This isn’t about players not being willing to try and mitigate / avoid things, it’s about the inconsistency / variance of sometimes the effect takes 10% of your HP and sometimes it one-shots you even if you split so the explosions from other players don’t hit each other.

Firstly the reply was for everyone in general here, don’t want you to feel I specifically pointed to your comment.

FYI, I play 3 characters, I even play a P99 one. I never miss the bi-weekly cap for all so far, and besides completing my own, I also join numerous other runs to help/fill parties. Everytime I join, I tried to fix my eyes not just on my own corruption, but others as well.

So I think I have far enough sample to verify my statement. Whevener we executed the split perfectly, none will die, unless they are already less than half HP remaining. Even the P99 would survive since the mob damage is scaled down according to Para/Reso. Even if someone is underranked (like carrying someone with R7 charm into Level 4) they WILL survive if they follow my instructions correctly. Only times they died is due to combo with other mob burst attacks, like the giant slam or the charge. Or simply HP too low before the corruption blast.

Let’s say what you said is true, I don’t see anyone mentioning the mechanic anyway. So it is worth to mention it here. Let them try, and see the results and hopefully testify it here.

Anyway remember shield cant guarantee total mitigation if all four people blasted, unless like you said, maybe R20 aegis would do. But that will be weeks from now until majority of the server had that.

Undying? As a barb you already know its about timing. And yes if it is a back to back corruption, you can’t eat it the second time. And undying only benefits you, not your teammate. It will still blast the hell out of them if it came from u. That’s why I chose Parting Gift essence of Necro as great example, it works great since you have five chance to mess out and shared for all. Even more if you have more than one necro and good comm.

I had occasions where I was on 100% HP, with a shield, we all split and I was nowhere near another player. Some of the times I’d survive, some of the times I’d be one-shot. The issue is the inconsistency and variance between completely trivial survivability and instant death.

Hey All,

Just wanted to drop in here to let you all know that we’ve seen some continued conversations over confusion and frustration with Corruption Overflow in Vanguard, and are having discussions about it internally. I don’t have anything to add right now, but when we have some concrete intel or info to share, we will be sure to do that.

My usual squad now all have charms at this sort of level…

We can just completely ignore the overflow in Level 4 now, i.e. we don’t even need to spread out to avoid hitting each other. By the time charms get to Rank 20, the six billion HP boss will be pretty much trivialised, I suspect, due to the HP / damage modifiers to the heroes granted by a charm at that level.

I have same charm rank with you and corruption overflow still hitting me hard and sometimes nearly killed me. I still can’t ditch Immunity Ice Armor because of this.

When corruption activates run from the tree/ boss for like a couple seconds till it goes away…running away will keep you from getting one shotted or mass amount of damage being taken.4

I still don’t get this overflow mechanic. I’m using a level 16 charm now so I’m no longer concerned about being 1 shot, the highest I’ve taken now is 60%. But, I still wish I could understand it.

I did 5 v4 runs with the same 3 people. 0 shield charm. 0 class shield/immunity skills. 0 shield essences/sets. The only shield I had is that small 80pt paragon shield on buff.

I always ran out for corruption overflow getting away from everyone. Sometimes my HP bar did not even move, either the corruption effect fizzled or was smaller than my tiny shield. Other times I would run out and then corruption would leave what appeared to be a dot on me. My HP would tick down 2-3 times over a second, leaving me with 40-60% hp left.

…Why?
