For giggles I did a BG match just moments ago, first one in ages. It was a Bronze 1 tier match. Basically just myself and bunch of bots. It was ridiculous slaughter, I got almost 50 kill streak.
I don’t know what Blizz was hoping to achieve, but it’s the opposite of making BG more attractive in the long term. From what I can tell bronze to lower silver ranks get a lot of bot games. Easy wins for non PvP enthusiasts. They will climb up the ladder and then get into games with real PvP players and they will get annihilated. And they will mess up the balance (again).
There’s a saying: the opposite of well is well-meant.
I’ve had it too. One time I had 2 humans and 6 bots on our side, and 8 bots on the other side. One time, this is unclear, but it seemed like there was 1 bot on each side. The bot match former one gave me 50 points.
It was like a trial of hordes (regarding bot and higher winning point)
It seems like it will go to rack and ruin like a trial of hordes.
For a better PVP experience, they should have put 1 human + 7 bots then instead of 2 humans + 6 bots VS 8 bots.
Also, if they really want bots to stay, then the bots should have special 50% damage reduction from players and they deal extra 50% damage to players to compensate their pathetic AI script.
Bots need to cheat against players to level the playing field or else, it will be a snoozefest for everyone.
From what I heard, after you went into higher rank like High Silver ~ Gold, you will stop encountering the bots or that is what I was told by my clan mate. I can’t confirm that as I haven’t reach that rank.
It seems this is how Blizzard helps the late newcomers with low reso to get a BG match to clear their dailies without making them queue for 30 minutes with no game because everyone were at Gold rank or something.
I just had a defence match where the attackers only killed two of the initial idols. The attacking players were being camped in their spawn by myself and what I presume was another actual player. The other six players on the defence team were still stood around the idol, to defend it, from no-one attacking it. No actual players would do this, we’d have had all eight of us camping their spawn, preventing them getting out.
I’ve now done 5 BGs, 5 wins, 4 MVPs, around 50 kills, 2 deaths.
I felt the same way.
If it happens only occasionally at lower tiers, it seems okay.
Because the way to legend in BG is long and tiring.
“BG’s true beginning begins at gold” is fine.
After playing BG for 3 days after the update, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, I feel like the first game of the day everyday is a bot game.
Also, this below is a weak guess (I could be wrong)
After the first game, every 5 games are bot games.
That is, the 1st game, the 6th game, the 11th game… are bot games.
Trial of Hordes is the same… (every 5 games are bots if we keep losing)
I think the bots are more meant to be a distraction(diversion, refresh), a “take a break”, a gift, rather than something to enjoy the game as if it were a match against a human.
I played 8 BGs yesterday, which is more in a day than I’ve done in many, many months. I won 7 of them. I was MVP in 5 of them. In the two defence matches I had, the enemy were completely boxed into their spawn point having failed to kill the initial three idols. In total, had around 75 kills and around 5 deaths, with assists up to the eyeballs. In the 8 matches, I had a streak of 6 wins in a row. These absolutely had to be games with bots in them (I only had 2 games where I actually recognised a couple of player / clan names from my server cluster as being actual players) as, in over two years, I have never previously had a win streak of more than 3 matches. I know my hero didn’t suddenly get more powerful, I know my gear / skills haven’t changed and I know for damned sure that I didn’t become a better player overnight. It had to be that the enemy were just really, really badly coded bots.
You’ve been matched with bots very frequently.
I’ve also been matched with bots twice in a row today.
Are you at a very low tier? I’m currently at silver4.
The lower tier, the more often one gets matched with bots?
The game might not be fun if the matching is that often.
I didn’t BG tonight, but yesterday I did my first BGs of the season. 5 bot, 1 real, 3 bot, 1 real. Ranked from Bronze1 to Bronze4. You can tell it’s a bot match just from the weird names, you don’t have to wait for the weird behavior to tell. I’ve had 1-2 humans with me a few times, never on the opposing team. Which TBH I think is better than 7-1 vs 7-1 as the defender can probably kill farm a win too easy, might as well just make it a bot stomp win for both players.
I’ve noticed 2 things with the bots:
If you’re on defense you need to let them kill the guardians or they will hide in the starting spawn and you’re stuck waiting for timeout while if they get to the 2nd spawn point they’ll run out to be killed faster.
Their damage scaling is really weird. As noted, their attack scripting is terrible and their primaries seem to deal almost nothing, I can dash into a pack and not fear instadeath like vs players…However, their rare aoe effects appear to actually be as strong as a real player’s of similar res and even their dumb ai can fire and forget a 10 second damage aura. When they get a starfire to proc on me I still lose 2/3 my hp and 1 of the sader aoes it can roll hurts a ton just like a real one. I found the rng combo of one of the wizards with the aoe suck in power coupled with starfire/sader aura dangerous to the point I’d have to flee to range and bandage. Not that they were anything near a real player and they never followed for the kill, but I went from a 44-0 game into one where I near instantly died to a dual starfire proc and had to savior back out to bandage. Caught me by surprise.
Well, I went from Bronze III to Silver IV without a single loss. My win rate went from 45% at Bronze III to 74% at Silver IV. Then tonight I got three matches with actual opponents, got thrashed all three times, and I’m back down to Silver III, so I’ll see what happens when I next go in.
