Battlegrounds is the WORST game mode I've ever played in *ANY* game

Not sure why as a 1.5k reso player I have to matched up with people that are over 5k to 10k+ players. I mean we do absolutely NOTHING in the game but become pinyatas. I mean WHAT THE ACTUAL F U C K? Do you guys actually think this style of play is ACCEPTIBLE? I mean why do I need to be grouped up with people in BGs that I can’t even do 1-500 damage to? I mean WHAT THE ACTUAL F U C K?

My favorite part is getting yelled at by the Whales because I’m not buffing them or holding the idol… I’m happy to PvP, but getting 1-shot every time, not being able to contribute, and then getting crapped on for it is absolutely no fun.

I’ve got Whale friends that are awesome and don’t do this, but some Whales are obviously in need of mandatory anger management therapy.

I would rather play against similar-power-level bots than be matched against Whales with 3-6x’s reso & 2-5x’s secondaries. All have Savior pets to boot.

It’s like a single ant trying to fight a rhinoceros.

Well, it wasn’t that bad if you aren’t a competitive PVP player. Just join the whale games and let the whales do all the work and you just collect the rewards from the sideline.

Despite on how unfair the BG was, I am a legend with an average 55%~65% win rate in every season and got all those normal gems and reforge stones without stressing too much.

This season is even better as getting into legend will give you 10 Legendary Crests rewards after the season is over. :+1:

I can see your perspective, however, one could easily argue that not being competitive is unfair to those whales that you get matched with. I agree, the rewards make it worthwhile, if not fun… but why not both?
I don’t often advocate for the feelings of whales, but I can understand their yelling if ppl are not really trying.

The underlying premise of the game dictates that you be sacrificied to players who’ve spent enormous sums on their characters.

This in turn, is supposed to spur you to spend ridiculous sums of money so that you a) don’t get crushed and b) you can take out your aggression on players less fortunate than you.

Throughout history, nothing much has changed, it’s just become more evident, both in this game and in today’s real life. When you have the money and the power, you can bully anyone you like.

If you didn’t know that before, this game will teach it to you now.

Is this really true? I mean, I had encountered many matches where 13k reso with high secondary stat in my team lost like a dog in those BG matches. You thought after they spend that much, it should be a smooth cruising for them in BG but it was not.

You could tell how angry was I am that time because I was expecting my 13k whales to carry us to the victory, and it was embarrassing and disappointing considering the opposite team’s whale was only around 11k reso. :rage:

Yes, it is really true.

If you search for Activision’s patent on game algorithms (US20160005270A1), you will find that the algorithm incorporates many ways to induce players to spend money. In that patent, the BG matching is very specifically mentioned. The algorithm purposely matches players with lesser stats against high level players as a way to induce players to spend more money.

Here is some of the wording in that patent that is relevant to what you are asking about.

‘A system and method is provided that drives microtransactions in multiplayer video games. The system may include microtransaction arranged matches to influence game-related purchases. For instance, the system may match a more expert/marquee player with a junior player to encourage the junior player to make game-related purchases of items possessed/used by the marquee player. A junior player may wish to emulate the marquee player by obtaining weapons or other items used by the marquee player.’

What this is saying is that your matches are determined by the number of microtransactions you make in the game. It’s an effort to make you spend more.

And that’s just a small part of the patent’s wording. Literally everything is watched by the algorithm, including the cosmetic skins.

EDIT: I’ve changed the wording to read Activision instead of Blizzard. It’s Activision’s patent.

If this is true, then why 13k reso player lost the match instead of 11k reso player? Shouldn’t that the matchmaking should make 11k reso player lose, so he will spend more money to make his character to 13k reso instead?

The 13k reso player already capped everything, so there is nothing he can spend anymore. So technically there is no reason to make him lose in the first place and make 11k reso player feel good in return.

Perhaps it’s to encourage low level players to raise their resonance to 11K so that they too can beat a 13K player?

Evidently, you noticed it. And Blizzard/ Netease hopes you will be an 11K player soon.

Your reasoning would be, “If I can get to 11K , I can beat that 13K player. I just need to spend more.”

Then what if 9k beating 11k and 9k beating 7k and 5k beating 7k reso and so on?

If their goal is getting players to spend more and become awesome, then they are doing horrible job on it.

I mean, it isn’t very convincing if you spent so much money to become 5k,7k,9k,11k, or 13k and still lose horribly in BG.

Resonance can carry you only if the difference is really big. For example, it doesn’t help if the 13k player’s build is bad or his skill is not as good as the 11k player’s.
Furthermore depending on being in attack or defense is a big factor and of course how the other players in the teams are. 2 whales alone can’t determine the whole outcome, but each one can have a big impact.

Just a couple of days ago, I got the Trophy for having competed in 1000 Battlegrounds. At the time, the Trophy for winning Battlegrounds was 550/1000. So, I have a 55% win rate. My Barb has 2456 resonance. I am currently Rank 11 in the Legend bracket. I have 47/100 on the Trophy for being MVP (losing team) and 62/100 on the Trophy for being MVP (winning team).

So, without having spent anything on the game monetarily (although I have put lots and lots of time and effort in instead) I’m in Legend, I’m near the top of the bracket, and I have a 55% win rate and I’m the MVP in roughly 10% of my matches. I think I’m doing fine for the size of my wings.

HAHAHA, agreed. I am a 5k res player. But my enemies are 10k or more.
I can do nothing, yeah. :stuck_out_tongue:
My win rate is around 35%, not so bad? My wins are almost from Bot games.
These days, I prefer Bot games. But above gold1, it seems I can’t have one.

Ya I’m with you at lest put me with the same residency or lvl as everyone else

I think “Push” mode from Overwatch “2” is worse, absolutely!

Sadly i must agree to the op, the mix of class imbalance (tempest, barb mostly), reso differences (6-8k+ against 3-4k) and the heavy heavy pay to win makes every bg match just a pure rng luck mode.
Sometimes if you in the right group you win like a young god, the next time you are beaten into the ground.

I think i will at next bg season play a lot less and stop once i reach legend and get the crests. Sadly with the next big patch the game will turn even more into a pure pvp game and with the current balance it will even get more worse for none whales.
