Battlegrounds Are Broken – When Will Matchmaking Be Fair?

Matchmaking these past few months has been a complete joke. Add the insane class imbalances on top, and this game mode is completely broken and pointless.

In one match, a single Demon Hunter got 35 kills; One player with 10k reso carried the entire game. What sense does this even make?. In other matches, you end up facing three BKs and can’t even get off the damn stairs. What kind of gameplay is that?

And the clearest example are those regional PvP events—only about 40 strong accounts, and those are the same ones you constantly face in Battlegrounds.

And stop saying ‘they’re the ones keeping the game alive.’ Alive for what? With what?Alive for whom? They’re maxed out and don’t even spend anymore.

What about the small and mid-level spenders—are we just invisible? So all the time and money we put in is worthless?.

Until this company officially makes a statement that some game modes are reserved only for the biggest spenders And it’s each person’s own decision to enter and be food, every player deserves a fair and accessible experience. Enough excuses—players deserve transparency and respect.

Entering a match feels pointless. You don’t lose because of mistakes or team setup class - just one player on the other side with broken class add 10k resonance n stats, and that’s it, game over.

That said, it’s not about excluding anyone, but we need a gameplay experience in battleground for everyone that matches their stats, resonance, classes, and other factors.

…so, yeah, they are making some content just for whales, and have said so.

The issue with what you’re asking for is that it’s antithetical to Blizzard’s business model for the game, which relies on players spending money to become more powerful, so they can more easily defeat opponents. If the matchmaking was actually fair, then what would be the point of spending hundreds, thousands, tens of thousands of dollars to become stronger, just to face players that have done the same, so you’re not stronger?

Exactly. I’m really baffled why some people have such difficulty understanding this basic concept and are asking perfect fairness in a pay-to-win game.

One of the matches where my team had one 13k whale, and we lost because my poor 13k whale got destroyed by two 11k whales. I wonder, what did the poor 13k whale do to deserve that kind of fate? He already spent so much money to reach the peak, yet the matchmaking still treated him so badly.

It is impossible to get a perfect matchmaking though. Even in fair multiplayer PVP games that don’t have pay to win element, the matchmaking still able to produce many one-sided matches.

There was one fair PVP game that I played in the past where everyone has same stats and same skills, and I still found that my team got destroyed so hard. Not even a close match. I guess in the end, no matter how perfect is the matchmaking calculation was, it still can’t predict the players’ attitude and mindset behind the screen.

Yes, and it was during that event where I noticed that over 40 players were above 10k resonance, with fully maxed-out stats. and thats why i said it’s each person’s own decision to enter and be food. But at least for the regular BG have no statement.

for the business model: I’m not great with math, but assuming each account is worth around $100,000, that’s about 4 million for 40 accounts.

Now then, taking a base of 50,000 active players (Blizzard recently mentioned having around 400,000 since launch), with a minimum monthly spending of $10 per player.

That’s $500,000 per month. Over the 36 months the game has been out, that amounts to roughly $18,000,000 USD.

If we apply the same estimate to the 400,000 players recently mentioned (think it was at echo gaming youtube video), that would be:

400,000 players × $10 per month = $4,000,000 per month.

Over 36 months, that amounts to roughly $144,000,000 USD.

It would be worth taking a closer look at that business model, because assuming those 40 accounts are what keep the game alive seems rather questionable. Not to mention the bots constantly supplying normal gems, orbs, and platinum — one has to wonder whether those investments are actually going through official channels. For all we know, bots could be absorbing at least 80% of the total player spending.

So, all players sitting at 2k, 3k, 4k, 6k, 7k, or even 8k resonance, with stats below 7,000, basically have no place to be considered at all. The investment made to reach those levels — through official channels, no less — apparently counts for nothing. Because without proper matchmaking, none of it really matters

In other words, if we’re talking purely about how much money is spent, players should be paired with others who have spent a comparable amount. Because every player deserves matchmaking that reflects their investment.

Oh! You noticed! Don’t you want to be just like this?

That’s what NetEase/Blizzard/Microsoft wants you to do. And that’s why you get paired up like you do. They want your envy, desire, anger, frustration and competitive nature to drive you into spending so that you don’t miss out (fomo).

That’s how it works. Get used to it.

The problem is not only the heavy pay to win factor, the very poor balance between classes comes on top and thats why most people lose interest at bg after reaching legend. If you not playing a meta class there is very little fun now playing pvp.

i agree with this statement very much, cos when there are farming (getting more exps, more legendary item , runes) exploitation happen, this blizzard fix it asap :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

I agree that there are some games where a whale or kraken can dominate the match, but not all games are like that. Most games are winnable in my experience. The skill of the player(s) have a big impact in the overall outcome of the match. Bad teamwork is the main cause for most losses in my experience. This video sums it up…
