This is actually kinda cool bug. I was playing my Demon Hunter and wanted to do some Dungeon runs. Then my WB friend logged in and we decided we’d run 3x dungeons for the Codex thing.
My WB buddy carries me in INF 4 dungeons (the gear’s better) but only regular-type dungeons. I ask for this because I can’t kill a damn thing in INF 4. Now here’s the bug.
I invited him to a party and fired up an INF 4 Forgotten Tower. We went inside, I hugged the entrance and my buddy went forward. I seen him killing mobs but a lot slower then he usually does. And he’s really strong. Solo’d all INF 3 and INF 4 Helliquaries for me.
And he says “Holy ****. I’m in Challenge mode!”
Seems my dungeon was regular and his was completely Challenge mode. We did a few more dungeons like this and the result the same. As long as I invite and start the dungeon, he remained in Challenge mode. And yes, he was getting the Challenger treasure chests and green drops, I was getting nada.
This must be a bug because I believe that normally you can’t start a Challenge Dungeon without 4 people. And I don’t know if the mix of normal and Challenge within one party in the same dungeon is a bug but I’m going to assume it is too.
I’ll also mention we only did this on one occasion because it was taking too long to do a run. I don’t want to be accused of exploiting this situation but felt I should report it.
In addition to a description of the bug you are reporting, please provide:

That depends on whether you use the Random Dungeon Finder…
Or you go to the entrance of the dungeon…
I tested this about a week ago, just to see if I could solo an INF4 challenge dungeon, and to see how much damage I’d get on the meters.
So, as you queued for a specific dungeon, perhaps that’s why it allowed you in 2-man rather than finding a full party. Of course, it doesn’t explain how you were on normal and your friend was on challenge, whilst in the same dungeon, that definitely sounds like a bug.
You didn’t mention the result. Were you able to solo the Challenge dungeon? I assume it’s soloable because the requirements says ‘Members 1-4’.
And I asked my buddy about queuing vs entrance and he says he was using only the party finder (set on Challenge) for randoms, not the entrance mode.
I usually use the entrance mode to go in so it will summon him inside without having to travel. I pick quicker dungeons like Forgotten Tower or Mad Kings where he doesn’t need to run back a mile to res me.
He also said that every time he’s tried to solo INF 4, it won’t allow him to change the setting to Challenge at the top of the entrance screen. I mentioned your response to him and he said he’d experiment a bit with the 2 modes. Thanks.
So, you were the party leader, and went to the entrance, selected Normal mode, and when you went inside your hero was on Normal, but your friend, who got summoned in to join you, ended up on Challenge Mode? Yeah, this would need a heap of experimentation to try and reproduce the issue.
Oh nice! I’ll be sure to tell him that it is possible to solo. Appreciate the quick response. We’ll be playing later today so I think this will be good news for him.
And yes to that summary. Those were the conditions. He’d been doing nothing but randoms in Challenge mode for a couple hours before I asked for help.
I wonder if its because he was still in the ‘challenge’ window timeframe. As long as you restart in a period of time the game remembers the previous option. It might be an hour cooldown or something but after coming back you need to reselect challenge from the entry screen. Because you started normal and it auto put him right back into challenge
just tested with friend who did 3 random challenge, invited and started normal mkb and we both entered normal. Maybe its because i4 challenge dung are cr locked for you it put you in normal? I’m unable to test that but its a possible option for the bug
I took a day off and fell behind on my routine so I haven’t had the time to try to reproduce this issue. But I plan to give it a shot tomorrow when we run another batch of dungeons. I’ll post back here with specifics afterwards.
