10 Terror Essences for Enchanting?

This is like the most useless feature in the game.

First, there are limited terror essences we can get every week. Sure you can buy them in the marketplace however…

Second, it gives random results instead of letting you pick the class skill you wanted for its expensive cost, especially when you bought it from the marketplace.

With such a hefty cost, I doubt even whales will going to gamble their platinum for this when it can be used for other more rewarding activities. Even using them for 10x Oblivion Pillars are better investment.

I‘d say it depends how you look at it and what your goal is, when fine tuning your gear.

10 Terror Essences can be used for 10 Hellslayer Bounties / Oblivion Pillars. Depending on your RNG luck, this can result in 0 to 10x3x2=60 (if you‘re this lucky , you should consider going to the Casino ) Legendaries with random attributes and affixes.

Now using the Fine Craft system results in a high quality item, where you can chose the class specific affix. This item can then be enchanted further to reroll one of the other class specific affixes, if you don’t like them.

So I think it is a valid path to take, when considering how much garbage can turn up using the 10 terror essences „the old way“.

No, it can result in a high quality item. The fine crafting guarantees that the crafted legendary will have 3 main attributes on it, but it still varies from 2-4 magic affixes. Last week my fine craft resulted in a helm with 3/2 and less CR than the one I was wearing.

Whilst it’s possible to get more than one terror essence per terror rift, one is the guaranteed number if you do all four spires. Thus the guaranteed amount of terror essences earnable each week is 10. This enchanting option therefore requires an entire week’s worth of terror essences, for a chance to get the right affix you want, on a legendary, that you might well end up replacing minutes, hours, or days later.

I expected it to be one terror essence. Ten is simply ludicrous.

I burned 40 of them without even realizing it. My fault for not paying attention but serious for a limited item that’s crazy.

I only use Fine Crafting to get the class-affix i wanted.

I has been using i4 pants with 2 stats + [meteor] affix in i5 difficulty because i can’t find i5 pants with [meteor] affix until they implemented the Fine Crafting system.

If we only look at the 10+x obtainable Terror Essences per week by playing, it‘s true that it’s not really feasible to use them as enchantment fodder. But if you got the Platinum to buy enough from the market, it’s another story. The cost is still too high, but I think some players will probably still use this option gladly.

And for those engaged in PVP mainly, the Combat Rating is not the primary stat they’re looking for in gear. Having good (class specific) affixes is their goal. Then it doesn’t matter so much if the item is weeks old.

But again, I wasn’t defending the cost of 10 Terror Essences per enchantment and also think that it’s way too high. I only wanted to point out, that there probably is an audience for this new addition to crafting, as a response to Kilometer’s initial post.
And of course, this audience is not the F2P player base, as seen so often lately…

Using my previous screenshot as an example…
Re-rolling that HOTA attribute has 5 other possible outcomes.
So that means I’d have a 20% chance of getting the one I want each re-roll.
For each re-roll…

  • Chance that the wanted attribute is obtained = 0.20
  • Chance that the wanted attribute is not obtained = 0.80
  • Chance that the wanted attribute won’t be obtained in X attempts = (0.80)^X
  • Chance that the wanted attribute won’t be obtained in 5 attempts = (0.80)^5 = 0.32768

In other words, roughly 1 in 3 players still wouldn’t get what they want after 5 re-rolls.

Those 5 re-rolls would need 50 Terror Essences.

Buying those from the Marketplace…

So, that would cost just over 6500 platinum. A quick look at the in-game Shop…

The 6000+1200 bundle is the cheapest that would give enough platinum to buy 50 Terror Essences.

That means, for £75.99, a third of players wouldn’t get what they want.

You‘re off by 1 Zero in the conversion of Orbs to Platinum. You‘ll only need 650 Orbs which would make the 18.99£ Bundle the cheapest for 100 Terror Essences and some change.

Still a lot of RNG involved and still not cheap. I don’t deny that, but I‘m still sure, that some players will gladly pay that.

10 Essences to enchant a gear isn’t that bad. I usually get 6 extra every week. So every two weeks it’s possible to do the upgraded craft.

What’s truly absurd is the suggestion of using 70 Terror Essence per week in Oblivion Pillars. That’s what the text says on the Terror Essence if you read it.

That bundle would give 7200 orbs… Which could then be used to buy 72K platinum. With the way cheaper bundle for 600+50 orbs (9.39€), you could get 6500 platinum.

Still, a money I wouldn’t spend for this kind of feature.

10 per roll seems too high to me in a game where gear is replaced every couple weeks. We aren’t building final gearsets here to play with for months.

Maybe something more like 3 per roll or 10 to set it like you get to in crafting.

The better option, if you want to buy orbs, is to do it from the Battlenet interface in the Shop menu. Best deal is the 15,000 orbs.

I have to agree with the general premise of this discussion thread - 10 Terror Essences to roll one class specific magic affix AT RANDOM is far too expensive in the context of current drop-rates and availability to farm. (Availability on market not withstanding as that’s the P2W route).

Whilst I accept, to a degree this is a min/maxing system for gear, it’s not small bonuses in this instance and as such can’t be as easily ignored. We’re talking about affixes which stack up to 4 times - this makes it less min/max and more “required” in order to remain competitive.

Yes - you can still get these affixes from the “old” system of running terror rifts. But the reality is, these affixes haven’t been as prolific as they will be now because the RNG system getting the affix you want on an appropriately powerful item was just sooooooo high in terms of % chance - most players didn’t bother to interact with the system seriously and very few ever got 4/4 for an affix.

The new system brings getting 4/4 on an affix on at least a reasonably powerful/usable set of 4 items a much higher possibility. But, at present, it encourages more P2W - which means this new system becomes more the purview of whales rather than low spenders or F2P.

1 Terror Essence should be the cost if Blizz are going to insist on RNG continuing at current level. Even for whales, 10 is ridiculous when you can blow a chunk of platinum on the market and still not get the affix you want (Lets not forget, the same affix can roll over and over and over again back-to-back just like the curse purifying system - and if it isn’t the affix you want…at 10 essences per roll - that is HUGE frustration territory even for whales.

For 10 - I’m sorry, but I want to be able to PICK which affix I want and I am pretty sure most would say the same whether Whale, low spender or free to play.

If Blizz don’t want to reduce the cost, then they should drastically up the drop rate and the cap on Terror rifts by a factor of at least x3-x5 so these can be reasonably farmed.

I would rather craft a 4/4 set every week than blow all my limited TR essences for the 4/4 that may become obsolete in the next few weeks.

4/4 on a class Affix is less likely to become obsolete in a few weeks to be honest unless you are changing class - more likely to become obsolete with introduction of new essences and therefore builds though I agree. But they tend to be a couple of months apart.
But that rather speaks to the need for a reduction in cost or increase in drop rate I think right?
