This was the same reason I deleted and didn’t play d3 after the moment you get basic skill as a witch doctor. I thought "wow, why would the devs not allow me to keep swinging my weapon at enemies throughout the game? " I thought there was no way this would be a mechanic that is kept in D4. I have seen people say online that basic attacks are worthless compared to basic skills but that’s completely missing the point. The point is playing how we would like to. I LOVED playing d2 as a druid or necro and being able to run up to enemies and swing my weapon at them and seeing those animations. Now, as soon as you get a basic skill, you are forced basically to only have projectile attacks. It’s sad honestly. I see many people frustrated online that we can no longer swing our weapons at enemies after about 10 minutes into the game if you’re playing as a necro or druid ( I played as necro but I saw druid players complaining online). So we literally just hold our weapons in our hand and that’s it. Sad man
OK thanks for letting us know. Bye, see you at Diablo 5 launch.
Lmao, you want to use one of your 6 skill slots to thunk monsters on the head with a stick? Come on.
Skill issue
How do people like you make it this far into life being constantly upset about the most ridiculous things all the time
Isn’t one of the necromancers basic attack skills swinging a weapon in fact a scythe.
I can’t imagine why you think I’d rather my druid hit people with his weapon than turned into a werewolf and shredded them with claws (not a projectile attack by the way), but to each his own.
Most the barbarian basic skills are melee
The rogue has both melee and projectile basic skills available.
It’s up to you if you want to carry on playing or delete the game for what seems to me a rather silly reason particularly as I think all classes apart from maybe sorcerers have a basic skill that is a melee attack, most have multiple.
My shape-shifting druid is entirely melee focused, as of course is my barbarian. I choose projectile skill for my necromancer and melee skills for my rouge.
So not only does it seem a silly reason to delete the game without playing it more it’s mostly untrue most if not all classes have basic skills which are melee attacks available if you choose them.
Uh… every class has a melee basic skill. Nobody’s forced to use projectiles.
Again, isn’t the point of satisfying gameplay to have options on how to play? When I played as a druid in D2, I enjoyed turning into a wolf and mauling people but I also enjoyed running around with a club and hitting people over the head.
For the guy who mentioned using the 6 slots for hitting monsters on the head with…no I’m simply saying we should have the option of hitting monsters over the head with a stick if we choose…is that so unreasonable lol?
So you"d like the option to attack not only in melee which is of course already an option, but with no skill and a basic weapon to minimise how affective you are.
I doubt your very typical, but to each his own maybe you should go ahead and delete the game.
Shall I pop into Godot and make a stick whacker game for you.
Well you do have the option.
Just refund all your skill points and play with 0 skills.
Play a barb. Basic is a not inconsiderable amount of my damage. It doesn’t overpower for 20 30 40K that deathblow does for me but it kicks out a decent amount with the occasional 10K overpower.
I get what you are saying, allthough I wouldn’t be so dramatic about it.
On the other hand drama, hyperbol and threatening to delete the game or demand a refund if blizzard don’t comply with your demand are par for the course on this forum for some reason.

Definitely came off as really dramatic, agreed, it looks lame. I’m finding it strange although that people are acting as if I’m suggesting some completely unheard of thing that has never taken place in the Diablo Franchise? I’m simply talking about the mechanics that were used in D2 that I’m sure we all loved.
In D2 , I loved running around as a sorcerer and enchanting my sword as I run into a mob. As a necro, sometimes I stood throwing bones from afar and sometimes I ran in with my dagger. As a druid, sometimes I roll up as a werewolf and use my paws and other times I want to run into the mob with a club. The point is we can no longer do this here…and there’s a lot of people online that aren’t loving that decision by the devs. I am obviously one of those people.
I think Sorc even has a lightning whip? I haven’t tried that skill yet but it sounds like it.
Again the point is severely being missed. Yes, the necro has a pseudo melee attack where he swings a scythe…but that’s basically a spell. Maybe I want to swing a sword, or an axe. I want to see the animation of my necro swinging whatever weapon I have equipped. Otherwise, what’s the point of having all these different weapons that the druid, necro or sorcerer can equip if the animation is literally all the same? It completely breaks the visual immersion and makes me feel like I’m locked into a spellcaster play style.
It would be the same as playing as barbarian, but as soon you get your basic skills, your only close range “physical attack” animation is you swinging a mallet. It doesn’t matter if you have an axe, sword, morning star or spear actually equipped. Nope, as soon as you press the left mouse button, you’re swinging a mallet.
Wouldn’t that break your immersion in the game?
There are plenty of fair reasons not to play the game, but this might be the dumbest reason for somebody quitting a game i have ever seen.
also you can literally select what weapon the barb swings in the abilitiy menu, in fairness its not well explained that you have to open your menu to do it, but you can do it, open the ability tree, hover over the ability on your action bar, middle click to change the weapon that ability uses.
This is an unusual ‘last straw’ but I am fairly certain this is just a scapegoat excuse. There’s probably something else about the game that’s bugging you that is harder to put into words, so when you noticed this your mind settled on it as your ‘reason’ for quitting.
If you ever are able to think of the real underlying reason, I’m sure Blizzard would welcome hearing it. But if not, I hope you find a game you enjoy.
ok…but you can’t do that for necro, druid, or sorcerer. You’re locked into the exact same type of Scythe swinging animation regardless of what weapon you are using. And my point is, if this was a mechanic that was applied to every class, more people would be pissed.
Man, believe me I am really trying to like this game and this is really breaking the immersion for me…like…I want to use a sword or an axe as a necro and I cannot swing it. I am locked into either using spells, a projectile skill or a pseudo melee skill where I swing a scythe…which is strange because I am holding a sword . Is this really that unreasonable?
Many people seem to agree with me on webs.
