Its not entirely unreasonable… its just also something that would take development time but serve no purpose except for people who wanted to do it, basically, as an emote.
It’d serve no combat purpose, do virtually no damage, and be a fundamentally useless command to have access to. So the developers didn’t spend the time in making it something ‘readily’ accessible because they had other things to spend time on that would actually be used.
I think a ‘swing weapon’ emote might be an interesting idea just to show off your weapon, but it also seems redundant.
I think his point is you should have an auto-attack basic attack, not even as one of your six key binds, just as a given.
You are right, every class has a melee basic skill but correct me if I am wrong, that has to be chosen
For me, I didn’t notice that because my Barbarian is overflowing with melee from the get-go, but I think for sorcerer, you’re not going to be cracking skulls with your staff unless you pick the lightning attack that does so (with lightning damage).
Anyway, even though we my file this under, we don’t care (I don’t) because their is no need for a more basic, basic attack, apparantly the OP wants the most basic of basic attacks (just a pure strike with gear, nothing more). It remains a valid point.
I wouldn’t say it serves only as an emote. But in so far as it does, for many people, it’s what makes or breaks the immersion in a game. It also adds to the immersion in so far as the player feels that they are customizing their character. I can be a necro that swings a sword, you can be a necro that swings an axe, and he can be a necro that swings a poison dagger. It doesn’t mean you can’t use skills as well as using melee weapons. Again, this would literally be the same mechanic that was used in D2. I was a fire sword enchantress in D2 and loved it but here I can’t even swing my staff if i wanted to. I was a poison dagger necro in D2, but here I swing a scythe no matter what weapon I have in my hand.
It makes me feel like I’m locked into playing as a spellcaster and that there isn’t any meaningful weapon variety.
Absalon gets it. Thank you bro. I’ve been feeling like a crazy person during this entire thread
So you want to basic attack more? Most classes have resource generation issues later on and have to use legendaries to supplement basic attacking too much. Idk what game you’re playing lol.
Reading more it seems like you want your necromancer, who is a caster, to not perform like a caster? Wtf am I reading?
Except with the fundamental way this game is designed it WOULD serve only as an emote. Because you would have to use one of your combat slots for an attack that would deal 1 damage. Because there is no skill on most classes that works that way. So either they would have to change the skill trees for EVERY SINGLE CLASS to add an ability that functions as a ‘stab your weapon’ ability, or they’d have to add the ‘basic attack’ ability that’s used when you have no skill to the skill book somewhere.
Again, I’m not saying your request is unreasonable… I’m saying that the reason it won’t happen is because it would be either a moderate amount of coding/debug time for virtually no measurable benefit or a LOT of coding time for minor benefit.
… if you choose a spellcaster then no duh… your main focus will be you know… CASTING SPELLS! what the hell kind of sorcerer runs up and starts hitting people with their staff, it fits the theme of the class you chose sherlock, you chose a sorcerer, sorcerers cast spells. if you want melee then choose a bloody melee class what kind of nonsense is that.
so then where’s the option for hybrid class builds? I never said I don’t want to cast spells. I’m happy to throw fireballs or spawn fire serpents as a sorc but maybe I want to enchant my sword with fire and hit a few guys over the head? Like I did in D2…I’m truly confused as to why you’re acting like this is the most ridiculous thing you’ve ever heard anyone say. And again, what is the point of having a variety of weapons to choose from if you literally can’t swing them?
Agreed… but my necro has a sword in his hand…and when I swing the sword, I get an animation of a scythe. I guess I’m crazy that it is breaking the immersion for me
Then just use a scythe if it’s better for your immersion? Like if it’s literally ruining the game for you just swap to using a scythe. I don’t see how that would be game ruining for anyone, there are way bigger issues to fix in the game than “I don’t really like these animations”
Because the spell is that you ‘conjure a giant magical scythe and swing it’, so it doesn’t matter what your weapon is since you’re conjuring a giant magical scythe regardless.
Also if you’re wanting to like enchant your weapons with elements and be melee it sounds like you should just reroll rogue since that’s actually what they do.
