Why has the game become less and less fun since Season 6?

let me throw out a hot take: Blizzard doesn’t even look at the forums, so all the suggestions from players are basically futile.

Even so, I’m still willing to share some of my viewpoints and the reasons behind them.

So why has the game become less and less fun since Seasons 6?

  • The Paragon Level 300 and Paragon Board design are a complete failure.
    • Its boring and monotonous, serving absolutely no purpose other than to artificially extend player online time. Level 100 was the best and most reasonable leveling system. In fact, the developers didn’t need to force the Level 300 at all; a reasonable distribution of Paragon Points could have been achieved even at Level 100, which is why Season 4, while keeping the current Pit content, plays so smoothly and comfortably. As for the Paragon Board, I can only say it’s even less intuitive and interesting than the simple stat allocation system in D3 or D2R. Take D2R as an example: even though attribute point allocation is simple, stats like Strength and Dexterity determine which equipment you can use, cleverly aligning with real-world logic.

  • Item design issues.
    • The gear system is gradually collapsing because of laziness in not adding a loot filter. The yellow gear plus Aspect system, a defining feature of D4, is actually a not bad mechanic. In Season 3, yellow gear with max affixes (non-Greater affixes) still held significant value. The difficulty in identifying good gear could have been solved simply by adding a loot filter. So I really dont understand why is Blizzard so unwilling to do this? Even a small team like the one behind Last Epoch managed to implement this, SO WHY U CANT BLIZZARD?
    • The crude distinction between 750 and 800 power gear is incredibly stupid. After gutting the affixes on yellow gear, Blizzard chose to continue being lazy by forcibly distinguishing between 750 and 800 power gear. The low drop rate of Ancestral gear has been a long-standing complaint, and many players have asked Blizzard to increase it. But before considering that, perhaps think about why Blizzard insisted on differentiating 750 power gear and forcibly bundled Greater Affixes with 800 power gear. Greater Affixes, as a form of lucky drop, shouldn’t have been designed so crudely. This is also why the Season 4 experience is quite good, because in S4, even non-Greater 925 gear can provide decent upgrades.
    • I selfishly believe that the 1.5x Greater affix boost is too powerful. The current values are even more inflated than before Season 6. A 1.1x multiplier would be more reasonable, and it would also give regular max affixes a chance to be more relevant.

  • Boss design issues
    • One-shotting bosses isn’t a bad thing; the forced health-locking in Season 8 is a display of design incompetence. The core of Diablo is fundamentally the process of constantly collecting gear to improve oneself. One-shotting is, in fact, a recognition of one’s own power. If I wanted challenging boss fights, why would I play D4 instead of Elden Ring? Forced health-locking makes all of the player’s efforts meaningless, and there are also features like the Pit within the game that can be used to challenge oneself. Why is it necessary to make things difficult for players specifically in boss fights?
    • The boss design is completely uninspired, with the sole exceptions being the main story bosses. I fail to see the purpose of creating bosses like the Glacial Beast, Lord Zir, and Grigoire, who lack both background and lore. Even the bosses from Season 3 had significantly more narrative depth than these.

  • Other issues
    • The bug with the Tenets of Akarat has never been fixed. My suggestion is to remove the Tenets of Akarat entirely and reduce the number of Lilith Altars if you have no abilities to fix them.
    • The blue side quests on the map still useless. Blizzard should either remove these quests or provide significant rewards to encourage players to do them. In my opinion, instead of the garbage seasonal questline you designed for Season 8, you should have created some season-related side quests. At least then I could experience some story instead of playing this trash you’ve designed.
    • Make the Sorc and Durid BEAUTIFUL!

The above opinions represent my personal views only. Apologize if any offense was caused. Love u

When spiritborn was strong i had very much fun.

Crushing hand was my favorite build.

Much sad that the caved to the complainers and completely ruined it

Definitely one of my favorite builds across all classes.

That is totally not true, the current state of D4 is the product of Dev listening to those whiner in the forum.

Because they spoiled players for 3 months with Macdonald’s play place ball pit Spiritborn yay I get to 1 shot everything yay pit 150 yay delete the whole screen in half a second.

Mom, Can I have ice cream for dinner?

No.

That’s not fair mom!!

Now you’ve got people making threads complaining they can’t 1 shot things and oh no the bosses have mechanics!!!

I told ya so Blizzard. I dun told ya so. For 3 months I dun told ya so.

Spirit turd has left a scar on the franchise that it will never recover from. 10 seasons from now people will still be itching to get that spoiled feeling back. Ice cream for dinner.

Looks like they’re reading here, but not following every piece of advice. Wasn’t able to go through your list with time available apologies.

Actually, every season has one-shot builds. I’ve always been a staunch supporter of one-shots. Even in the early Diablo series, you could experience one-shots. It’s just that those damn PoE 2 players keep coming to D4 to whine. Look at what their broken game has become.

Spiritborn season 6 was on a completely different level of 1 shots. A different galaxy. Everything else has been microscopic by comparison. No season has ever been the same.

I’d say less fun since season 2

Blizzards don’t understand the genre and don’t know their audience.
Anyone who played ARPGs a bit knows, that no one likes and wants one-shoting bosses with invulnerability stages. But here we are.

Not to discount the game itself having a strange case of an identity Crisis where they cannot decide if it wants to be for hardcore or casual players and instead trying to do both and not quite getting either…

There is also a diminishing return on just playing the same game over and over every 3 months with slight variations. Any game is going to get less exciting if you’re doing the same thing… again, and again.

Seasons aren’t 3 months long because it’s 3 months of content, they are 3 months long so that it 1. Gives them time to do something for the next next season (since there are 2 teams) and 2. Gives people who don’t play every hour of every day time to get through the season stuff, or maybe didn’t have time to start it at the very beginning.

Exactly…we don’t want d3. There were already people screaming for t5 and for pit 200 and then?? Pit 300??? That’s not an interesting game design. SB was stupid and anything would make you strong. A friend came in at the end of the season and asked me why I used life on everything instead of attributes that would increase damage. I said it’s a bug that life increases damage. He said but that’s very wrong. I said yes, it doesn’t make any sense.

-The bosses…the mobs have mechanics that are often not even seen because everything is dissolved. The game should have some strategy and not just pressing buttons.

To the OP

The game has become less fun due to the leadership team lack of understanding of what fun is for the players and how they can make money from it.

They focus heavily on money verses fun for the players where it should be focus on the fun and then money will follow.

We are pretty harsh on them (dev team) here in forums. But realistically have they ever played their own game?

S6 spiritborn was awesome fun. Over powered to hell and back but fun. Instead of lifting other classes they nerfed it pretty heavily. So not only did they remove fun from one area they continue to remove fun from every build. Rotating through where there’s no stability in class balance. That’s not fun. Instead you get gimmicks and battle pass (nerfs) adjustments that make no sense value wise to players.

Making the game harder through one shot mechanics. Where exactly does anyone see the fun in that? Due to how the game is designed you are stuck doing bosses for end game repeatedly. You can kill the boss easily except when out of nowhere you get a one shot. How it makes sense and how is it fun is a mystery to me. It’s like they don’t play the game enough to understand it.

Itemization and tempering. Well I’ll stop here because that horse has been beaten to death.

The leadership team of d4 are retards. There’s no positive way to describe them. The game is playable, but it’s not fun for many people as evidenced by the complaints here and certainly my view is just one take on why it is that way.

Totally agree. The addition of endless currencies has made a fun game too complex and less rewarding.
I would like to see fewer currencies (the game has gold, that should be enough) and more rewards and items that are useful in the “eternal realm”.
I also think that the eternal realm should be less of a character graveyard. They should bring back the ability ro resurrect characters.

Imagine being so out of touch, in thinking that being able to clear content in the game, is being a “spoiled” player. I played a Centipede SB on launch, and she became one of my fave characters to play as…BECAUSE SHE COULD DO THE CONTENT.

There is a difference between clearing the content and 1 shotting everything and getting to do pit 150 while no one else can and wiping out the whole screen in half a millisecond so no one else gets to play in the open world.

Imagine being so out of touch you don’t realize that’s spoiled.

Mom, can I have ice cream for dinner?

No.

That’s not fair mom!

^That’s you

Spiritborn is in the turd burglar state it’s in because Blizzard let it be a spoiled little nugget for 3 months. They actually fixed it and showed their incompetence in class design by revealing their new class was a turd without game breaking bugs and 1 overpowered unique weapon that even surpassed the power of mythic uniques.

Now people are making threads complaining they don’t get to 1 shot everything and the bosses actually have mechanics. This is the damage Blizzard did with season 6 Spiritborn. You give people a taste of that spoiled power then take it away from them and never give it back to them. It feels bad for everyone involved but Blizzard decided to just crap the bed and not clean the sheets for 3 months so the stench and massive eyesore of a brown stain remains. Forever.

I will say (disregarding Season 6 for various reasons) I did prefer off meta gameplay in Season 4, somewhat 5 as well.

It’s because we are doing the same Progression over and over. Nothing has changed besides if it’s slower or faster.

D4 is my favorite and i love just running NMDs all night and chillin but we need some new Progression changes.
