Why are the most honest reasons you play (or still play) Diablo 4 (in spite all the issues/concerns)?

I love following pit 150 OP builds and blasting through content as quickly and efficiently as possible. Even though I"ve only reached 149 with SB in Season 6 when I first got the game last December 2024, I enjoyed so much for getting that far in just a little over a month of playing Diablo 4.

In Season 7, I have a blood wave necro stuck at 140, hota quake barb stuck at 135, cata druid stuck at 130, lightning spear sorc stuck at 121, and rain of arrow rogue stuck at 115.

Still have some time to push deeper into the pits with my characters but am not so excited about how Season 9 doesn’t sound enticing for players like me.

What are your reasons?

We don’t have any information about season 9 yet. The next one is 8 for now.

And often there is a feeling that most of these surveys are created by freelance Blizzard employees. For 3 reasons.

  1. absolutely not familiar with the type of game.
  2. Always new to the game.
  3. think that everyone is absolutely happy with the game, although from the forum it is clear that not everyone and not absolutely.

Power fantasy - I like to crush everything.

But mostly, if I’m honest, because I have paid for it, and there is little else I feel drawn to play - except DS3 which I might run again instead of S8 at this rate.

Because I want to.

I don’t play, but I am guessing that most are feeling compelled to play because a loved one bought the game as a gift.

With whatever issues there are with build disparity, lack of options in endgame or the grind - I play because I like the moment to moment gameplay. I love spinning and winning, I love blasting things with fire or ice. Running around with a pack of wolves and spirit wolves with me. I will push to the highest Torment that particular build can handle, and if that is I or IV I’m fine.

I started playing games back when the idea of the game was to play as the game got harder until you couldn’t play anymore (Space Invaders, Defender, Pac-Man) - then the home platformers - Mario and Sonic. I can just play the same thing over and over and enjoy it. It’s relaxing to me. I push in seasons, and just play in eternal.

I’ll just start by saying I don’t typically grind in the game. I’m not out to max my paragon, glyphs, or get very high in the pit. I typically make 1 character per season, sometimes 2 but it’s rare. I’ve been through this song and dance with D2, D3, PoE, LE, etc.

First of all I would burn myself out if I did nothing but play this game for 3 months from season to season, and secondly I just don’t have the interest or the time. I play the game currently every season with the goal of getting all the seasonal objectives done.

I enjoy trying out new builds, playing with the wife and other friends, and just having fun destroying demons. I’m not looking for a forever game mind you, just something mindless and fun to play for a bit. If I want something more in depth I’ll go play something else.

Doesn’t mean I don’t want the game to improve, but I’ve accepted what it is for now, and hope it’ll get better later on. However I know how Blizzard works, and it’ll be a while before we get anything substantial.

Sames. But in my case, I’m coming out of a rough financial patch, so within a month or so I expect to be hitting my local gaming store again for weekly TTRPG/miniatures sessions, & my time for PC gaming will decrease considerably.

My reasons are literally the opposite of yours.

I would never look up a build and I enjoy figuring out my own custom builds and optimizing them as I work my way up the Torments.
I beat pit levels one-at-a-time and if I don’t beat it in 5 minutes I don’t advance to the next Pit level. My newest character (Rapid Fire / Arrow Storm Rogue) just beat Pit 65 in 4m58s so i moved into T4 last night.

Once everything starts dying in 1-2 hits, I lose all desire to play. I try to reach glyph 100 each season but usually my desire to grind Pits stalls out. It really is terrible content.
Infernal hordes are terrible, too.
Farming bosses via 10 second kills is terrible, too.
Undercity is just … okay.

Jeez. Looks like I only like Nightmare dungeons, and I’m not sure i like those, either.
Oh, Helltide is fun.

It’s the combat that keeps me coming back, but every season it gets a little less interesting. Press 1 button to pull all the mobs together and hold 1 button to CC them and delete them. Sometimes that’s the same button. Sometimes you don’t even need to actually hit the buttons.
I miss actually seeing and caring about the type of enemy I was fighting.

Last few seasons I’ve put very little time into, mainly log on to see if the progression feels any better then make it to pits and quit

Because I love the Diablo franchise I have played every instalment and will continue to play regardless of what others think. I have also played GD, POE, TL, TQ and Wolcen but always come back to Diablo. I have never complained or cried on the other game forums. I think it is moronic for people to hang out on a forum for a game that do not play or like.

I play simply for my enjoyment… And, in three years D4 will be a solid game. I figure this installment will take longer than they typical 3 years to settle down.

I don’t play anymore. I come back here to put the troll brigade in check, and I’m currently on leave so have oodles of time. I gave Diablo more than its’ fair share of chances given blizz at one time made titles you could safely blind buy. That is no longer the case.

I think it’s moronic to fail to realize people complaining are paying customers, this is a product that was sold to them, and thus they have every right to do so. Different people are in different financial situations, so I don’t assume it’s just a drop in the bucket for everybody just because it is for me.

The main reason I still play Diablo 4 is how much I enjoy tinkering with offbeat builds. I’ll take some random skill nobody uses, tweak the gear, perfect the masterworking, fully level my choice of glyphs, and everything else until it’s something totally my own—even if it’s not the strongest out there. It’s like a puzzle I get to solve my way. What keeps me playing though, is possibly a leaderboard system. I’d love a solid leaderboard system for all of the activities in the game like PvP, Gauntlet, or even racing to Paragon 300, I tossed out some ideas for that here with an aggregate leaderboard taking each activity into account:

In my mind, it would be awesome to see where every off meta build stacks against the meta’s even if they end up ranked very low, maybe one or two hidden gems will reveal themselves!

This is exactly the types of builds that are going to die in S8

Fingers crossed it doesn’t kill em, hopefully it just enhances them to be as strong as, but we will see.

I like that D4 is fast paced, quick levelling, early in the game you can begin theory crafting. I love that the game is faster than POE2. It’s a constantl and energetic adrenaline rush. It’s just enjoyable. POE2 no doubt is great game that deserves allot of respect but it is sooo slow, that I drift off and start yawning. The fast paced style of D4 keeps me alert and engaged. As for the pit, I think this needs to be reworked. Like another way to level glyphs… It’s a bit boring doing pits on repeat and I don’t think the glyphs should be locked to the pit only. Should be more variety.

The only reason I play this game is because there are playable werewolf on ARPG genre

There are currently no other substitutes at the moment.
