What's the point of playing D4 if you don't like to min/max

paragon board seems simple at first glance, but it is actually pretty complex and in depth. I can see some players already coming to forum and ask blizz to simplify the board because it is too complicated to min/max

no. the single purpose of playing, is having fun.

(and i say that as someone who is going to minmax some chars - but definitely not all, and at times, i will 100% make some really demential builds just because it’s fun)

As long as I finish my build I’m done. What do you mean because everyone has a cut off point. As long as I get whatever aspect, uniques I’m chasing, hit 100 I’m good. Chasing 2% crit on a item because I didn’t get best roll? No thanks

Even D2 I had a cut off point on rolls. I personally don’t have the patience to chase perfection.

But it is interesting hearing the other side who like to min/max. Personally I never understood that either. Seemed unimaginative and boring.

For sure, and that will take you a long time already to achieve. There will be plenty of play time waiting for you here…

Oh it’s definitely complex for sure. But most players I feel like are just going to throw points into whatever they think is best and not really care. Yes a bunch at that point may look up guides or come to the forums, but a lot won’t care enough.

I think the way this game is shaping up, a lot of players are just going to look at it as once they get all their cosmetics and finish the battlepass that’s good enough for them. Kinda like a fortnite thing where people play each season to get all the skins on their account.

I think d4 will have a lot less hardcore players than people think. The game is being more catered towards the casual crowd. But blizzard has done a good job in adding in complex elements for serious players that want it

no, the majority does not align with min/max. not even remotely close. most of us have jobs, not fantasies about getting recruited by FAZE clan. time to fill out some applications and start a career, kiddos

whats the point in going outside if you dont like to smell fresh air?. honestly did you think before you typed this up. Everyone plays games for different reasons. You dont have to be a min/max’r to enjoy a game. You enjoy min/maxing thats dope. Keep enjoying that.

I have a career… out side game I do have a life. But when I play I play serious lol. Thanks for your advice though.

i highly doubt it LOL

well, can’t stop you from doubting but, no reason I’d lie about that. Again, a career can be subjective too. Making 50K annual is a career to you ? or making 100K a year is considered a career to you ?

Just saying, it is subjective as well.

not spending hours upon hours to improve your ‘video game skill’ would be having a career/life. normal successful people dont care about video game foolishness LOL, so your original claim of “the majority” thinking this way is extremely off base.

Power doesn’t equal fun to everyone. Some people enjoy theorycrafting for themselves, even if they aren’t necessarily minmaxing. Theorycrafting is just something to help one minmax. Moreover, theorycrafting is often done using incomplete data and performing rough analysis & interpolation based on that analysis; so while it can be used to find an optimal strategy (minmaxing), it’s not objectively the best.

There are also people who simply just play the game without a clear vision for their character or any goals other than to relax & have fun. It is a video game after all, not a competition. There is this thing called fun. It’s subjective, meaning what’s fun for one person isn’t necessarily fun for another.

I guess my question is, why does it matter if you do a little less damage if it means playing your own way? I guess I assume when you say play your way you mean something that would be more fun than just copy/paste the latest meta and thoughtlessly drool through the game without every feeling any connection to your character… because honestly its really just a copy of someone else’s character.

I’d rather spend 20 minutes in a dungeon with a build I enjoy on a character that I love, than get it done in 10 minutes with a boring meta copy. I’m actually the opposite as you; I can’t understand why anyone would even play if all they are doing is min/maxing for numbers with no creativity.

lol not really, you dont really need to do research at all! you can pick anything you want, there is not certain builds orders or anything like that!

to be fair, I am referring to the people that work hard and play hard. When it comes to game, they game hard and serious. People like that most def exist. Majority or not that is probably off base I agree.

brother people who “work hard play hard” dont spend the “play hard” portion on video games LOL, unless they are pro gamers or streamer goofballs…

can’t say that I agree lol

Donut play nice… Work Hard, Play Hard is still a thing…

Paragon board can be pretty complex. I’ve watch several videos on it already. If you are just adding points here and there as you please, you will miss out on a lot of potential damage multiplier, as well as dependent on your end game build too…

There is a lot of planning ahead before spending the points in paragon board if you want to max it out as much as possible for your build.
