What's the point of playing D4 if you don't like to min/max

FYI, I’ll add that just because someone doesn’t min/max, it doesn’t mean they’re bad at the game. Or just because they do, doesn’t mean they’re good. I play games on Hard or the hardest difficulties. I’ve beaten Elden Ring 4 times without ever using exploits or “the most powerful weapon” in the game. The last 3 were handicapped playthoughs, only the first one was serious. Killed Ashava on WT2 2 times, and once on WT1. And while I would never consider myself a top tier player, I know I’m a decent player. Maybe that’s why I could care less about min/maxing anything.

yeah those work hard play hard weekends usually involves 3 day long benders, women of ill repute, and less than legal substances… not video games LOL

Once again, play nice. Neither category fits a lot of people you mentioned. There are some of us that have been playing computer games since before you were born. So, we have learned this thing called balance.

That is only your definition of play hard.

LOL, i was born before the first home computer was homeslice

no, it is the only definition of play hard

sorry, I don’t do illegal things, and I ain’t into alcohol either. I’ll stick to my type of play I am good. You go ahead with that…

I always reference the games I think shine above all the rest. So in this case I reference Terraria.

Terraria can be said to be much like an ARPG in that you level up through acquisition of vitals, damage, crit chance, defense, +minions, etc.

Min/maxing in Terraria is something necessary to playing in the harder modes such as mastermode hardcore. That said many people who play Terraria never touch mastermode hardcore. It’s something they’ll never do.

So what does it mean? It means there are different demographics in all games. Even the best ones. If a player only aspires to complete world difficulty tier 1 then that’s fine. If someone wants to go all the way that’s fine too.

Communities form organically around every player’s individual needs. As polarized as it seems what it explains to the development process is you need to make an open ended design where people can set and attain their own goals in the game. Otherwise they go elsewhere.

agreed…Well said, though I never played Terraria lol

You need to. It’s the best game ever made IMO.

My current record is 15 hours in one day. The other 8 were spent sleeping, eating, etc. as one has to have restraint, discipline, balance. That same weekend, I logged another 23 hours of gaming (trying to get the Moon’s Blessing in DI) for almost a week’s worth of work. So that means 10 hour work days so that I can “party” on my keyboard for 3 days. search “died playing video games” and you will see that it has happened multiple times and may have been caused by consuming substances - seems pretty much like partying to me.

you presume that I meat home computer… Still, thanks for the correction.

What’s the point of playing D4 if all you’re going to do is min/max?

It works both ways. But to put some perspective on this, let me propose something. Even if you min/max, you’re eventually going to hit a wall where things become difficult. If you don’t min/max, you’re still going to hit a wall where things become difficult. I see little difference, except that you may hit that wall sooner if you don’t min/max, which just means that person get’s to challenge themselves longer.

this is probably true… I have to agree…
I think my wall will come somewhere in end of nightmare tier. Prior to hitting Torment.

And I will have to figure out how to improve my gear or build to continue, more farming or whatever. I remember hitting these type of walls in D3 , but once you overcome it, it will be a breeze again.

so you were playing video games on the old punch card machines? LOL

I just think it’s strange for someone to claim they want a challenge, then min/max that challenge away. I mean, there’s nothing wrong with it. It’s just a weird way of going about things.

But yes, if you min / max you likely won’t have much challenge lol. The challenge will like come to player skills, and reaction time at that point. But if your build is so perfect, and geared nicely, stuff will get deleted so fast their your skills won’t really matter anymore.

Haha. Yeah. In my way of thinking, if someone wants a real challenge, try getting to level 100 wearing nothing greater than blues! LOL. But, anyway…

It becomes finding a solution to a problem. Some players want to run into problems then solve them a different way. While others use the gear route to overcome said challenges.

exactly, there is another post on the forum from someone, asking blizz to make the game harder.

I replied the following :

  1. select HC mode

  2. go naked

  3. use only white gears

  4. select Wt2 to begin

  5. end game difficulty right off the start LOL…
