So it seems Diablo 4 like Atomic heart, had the promise of ray tracing added shortly after the game launch, yet is nowhere to be seen. At this stage why even add it now, the game has been out for a number of months, many players have completed the main story and then some. It makes me wonder if it was all just hook, line and sinker for those looking forward to it.
From Nvidia to you. There are new game ready drivers also.
Ray Tracing Is Coming To Diablo IV
Coming in a post-launch update, *Diablo IV’*s detailed world will be further enhanced through the addition of ray-traced reflections. Sanctuary will be more visually stunning, dungeons will be moodier and more atmospheric, and battles will become even more spectacular.
And thanks to NVIDIA DLSS and the dedicated ray tracing cores found on GeForce RTX GPUs, all GeForce RTX gamers will have the best possible experience when activating the upcoming effects.

I imagine if the consoles can’t do it then they wont do it. This isn’t a PC game it is a console game copy paste to your PC.
Would honestly prefer the base game performance improved before they add more candy to it
They can’t figure out stash space and resistances…
Ray tracing can wait
I don’t disagree, I just find it funny how they seem to use RTX as bait. Even if they do implentant RTX, what’s the point of doing it 4 or more month later.
Probably because the game is gonna have expansions and be played for years to come
I want to see “vulnerable” and other combat text spaming my screen with ray tracing !!
You can make out the word vulnerable? All I see is a block of squiggly lines. Are they vulnerable, are they slowed, are they taunted? IDK keep spamming skills…
Not much need for ray tracing in the D4 world it would be like adding a chrome tire air fill cap on a set of nice rims sure its better than the standard black plastic cap but in the overall scheme of things its just a 25¢ chrome cap. Now if they would of used the freeware Unreal 5 engine that would be a different story.
This isn’t a news story or meant for republishing elsewhere but sources at the company say ray tracing is undergoing enhanced testing before release to provide as seamless integration as possible. Which means they dont want more crashes.
The extra required processing power greatly outweighs any visual improvements offered by ray tracing.
I used to think this too but that’s because most games with ray-tracing still use a lot of rasterization. You have to play a game that replaces all rasterized lighting with ray-traced lighting like Cyberpunk 2077 Overdrive RT to truly see the difference it can make. It looks like a totally different game up close in-person. Apparently it’s getting even better with ray-reconstruction aka DLSS 3.5.
Does the game even make use of dynamic lighting?
The spell effects don’t appear to be light sources. We don’t carry torches. The maps are pretty well lit from an unknown omnipresent light source.
I remember the promise of it coming after launch, I don’t remember them saying “shortly”.
Do you have a source?
No, your character carries an invisible lantern like those “dont take candle” mobs of WoW, and you will always cast a shadow to your behind direction which doesnt affect anything else.
Sure if you don’t have the GPU to run it, the 4000 series handles rather well.
I’m almost convinced most do not understand Ray Tracing, from some of these replies. For those who have the hardware and can appreciate better more accurate lighting/shadows/GI/AO, RT is a must…buuuut not needed (ATM). But I wants it. and mes-a gonna gets it one day.
hope they got better at it. it’s terrible in wow lol.
adds no graphic quality, just makes reflective surfaces too bright/white heh
if blizzard came out to say “we’re giving up on raytracing forever cause were not very good at it”. i’d be fine with that.
Ain’t that the sad truth.
