What happened to ray tracing

Maybe for those of us with a 4090 or a 4080. The cards below 4080 aren’t that much stronger than their 30-series counterparts if you exclude frame-gen. The 4090 and to a lesser extent the 4080 are pretty massive improvements with or without frame-gen though.

You’re correct it’s not needed, but when you see a game like Cyberpunk in all it’s glory with RTX maxed it’s pretty sweet.

I’m wondering about this as well. Was hoping it would come with Season 2, but currently even the DLSS and FSR versions are out of date and just updating those would go a long way. At this point, I’m hoping for an engine update around the time the first expansion releases.

I’m sure RT Reflections would improve the experience but there aren’t really a ton of reflective surfaces in the game. I wonder if the environments in the expansion will be designed to take advantage of ray traced reflections with more reflective surfaces.

As we know now that will be in about a year, so i hope not

Doubt it, as we will be going back to the D2 Jungle.
Also, when i played the closed beta in December 22, there were gfx options for RT reflections and shadows, not sure but i think even AO.
There were several options for RT but they didn’t work properly back then and caused glitches and ran at like 5 FPS on my 2070S

Imho global illumination/ambient occlusion will give the biggest increase in visual quality for a darker game like D4.
Shadows too as they are pretty mediocre resolution even on ultra setting.

As for reflections, yeah they could definately use some improvement but there aren’t that many in game yet.
Was just standing in town on a puddle of water and with SSR on my characters reflection is just a low res blob of color.

According to NVidia and Blizzard X posts… it’s coming in March 2024. Enjoy

The “game” will still suck, who cares.

But it’ll look better doing it.
