It’s called “Blizzard Quality”.
i fixed it by exiting, finished to download the update (i was at 97%), relogged, and that worked
this worked for me:
crossplay was already off since forever… logout/login didn’t work…
so: turned crossplay on; tried: nope… exited game.
turned it back off; tried again, nope.
exited completely (while still off) then retried: done!
so i log out of d4 and blizz restart the launcher and says an update i did it … so it closed the stupid lame launcher and reloads it and it works… it wasnt there when i started the season ive 3 monitors and i watch everything even the drain on my rig using games so i know if there is a mem leak or what not… (no i stopped trusting gaming companies back in 2006)

Disabling cross play worked
Porting to other city and coming back fixed it for me
I was having this issue, but this fixed it for me ( on PC ).
Exit to character select screen and selection options > connect > and uncheck BOTH cross network play AND cross network communications.
After that relog into your char and you should be good to go.

I just went to the altar thing you cant click and I hit “leave game” (go to char select screen) numerous times and it worked after like 5 times just leave game don’t close game.
Got the same problem and tried everything listed without success…
sad start for Season 3…
This does not work. Has this worked for even a single person here? if so maybe i need to keep trying but that def didn’t work for me first try.
EDIT: I teleported outside of the area, fully exited, re-entered, then teleported back to gatehall and it worked.

It wasn’t clear. I thought I had to be level 15 for it. Some other stuff req me to be lvl 15. I lvled up and came back. I was able to do the quest then.
I logged and re logged a few times and nothing … did the switch off co op… relogged nothing… got frustrated and said heck with it { in not so nice words )… so I shut down game turned the co op back on . I logged in and it worked… I am on pc … not sure how or why but it worked at that point I used the pearl went on to next part " find a way into the vault of stone in fractured peaks…maybe I said the magic words or someone sacrificed a virgin… not sure but it became clickable… good luck

I tried the enabling crossplay method - did not work
I have turned done the following, still unable to complete:
- Enabled CrossPlay and turned it back off (was off at the start of the day, restarting Diablo 4 completely each time)
- Teleported out and back into The Gateway (twice now)
EDIT: I see someone mentioned they were not level 15 yet, I will try to level and see if that makes a difference.
EDIT 2: Leveled a couple times with CrossPlay enabled. Did nothing. Just disabled CrossPlay, going to wait a minute or two, completely exit Diablo 4 and reboot PC.
EDIT 3: No luck. Someone below mentioned level 20… grinding a bit now.
EDIT 4: Start with CrossPlay disabled. Log out, but do not exit. Enable CrossPlay. Log back in. You should be able to click the Brazier! Did this at level 18.

Worked for me too after several attempts
Cannot log-in in eternal after update. Error code 300202. Google search:
" Because the code 300202 error is related to server issues , there is no way to fix it on your PC or console, so your best solution is to check the current status of Diablo 4 servers and wait until any technical issues have been resolved."
I guess ladders coming soon. 
Is it still broken beyond level 20 when you can unlock the jeweler? I haven’t hit 20 yet so I wasn’t sure if it was tied to needing the Jeweler to be unlocked first before it’ll work.
I pass the quest with Brazier… I couldn’t click Brazier…
Restart complete of my computer… and login again in Battle net and after play D4
