Three maces, three bricks

Sure there’s that risk of people putting the game down and moving onto other games, but I play all 5 classes every season and I have a backlog of new games that I haven’t even touched yet because I’m still logging into D4 everyday…

Let me ask you something…do you think the devs would have changed itemization at all if people were NOT crying about it?

When (enough) people voice their opinions to fix the game, the devs have a choice. Listen and make their game better, or ignore and drive them away.

Now, to be fair, not every criticism of the game is helpful, and some people just want to complain for complaining’s sake, BUT…when enough people offer the same criticism, there is usually something there.

Tempering was a cool system to add, and it was fun at first. I didnt mind bricking a few items when I was leveling, I just replaced them a few hours later. Now, I only find upgrades every few days or so, and it completely sucks when they brick. It makes so much more sense to pick the exact temper you want, and for the RNG to roll the value. That completely removes any negative feelings associated with finding GG gear, which is the entire purpose of this game, and gives you incentive to keep looking for better gear.

GA items should NOT be possible to brick, specially 2 GA and 3 GA items

That way, you still have some bricking on items that cant be BIS, but you cant break items that are already really rare anyways

The change they presented for S5 is not even close to enough, it changes nothing and shows how little thought the Devs put onto this subject, which is one of the biggest problems of the whole S4

They need to rethink this

I bypassed bricking 2H weapons on Barb by equipping a Hellhammer and a Grandfather. Of course these items made me weaker because in the devs infinite wisdom they don’t offer as many damage multipliers as tempers.

One also forced me into an upheaval build which features the most clunky skill in the game which requires perfect positioning and timing and keeps your animation locked while it casts so do t stand anywhere near a poison puddle or inside lightning obelisks.

Sad that builds running basic attacks outperform core skills by this wide of a margin. But hey no more bricks, am I right?

I made 6 1/2 different toons. The half was were I got burnt out and decided to play something else which is fine. I have enough bricks that I could build a house lol.
It is all rng. I would like some bad luck protection in that if you rolled the same affix twice in a row, the next roll would not have that affix in the list of possibilities for that affix because it just feels bad to roll the same thing over and over but it is still just rng.
Nobody complains when they get what they want. Only when they don’t. And I get it, it feels bad but it’s all good.
Just go out and punch the loot piñata that Helltides are and keep at it.
Good luck!

Just going to leave this here:

Yes there are plently of opposing opinions in the thread, just want to say I have been doing it to this day and have not bricked more than like 1/15 items. But sure… it is RNG.

I will add to that, sometimes it helps to temper on something else, even a different piece of gear, and then come back to the one you did not get.

This. I don’t play enough to min/max my gear (nor do I care to). Good items are few and far between. The thrill of getting a one or two GA* useful item is tempered by the knowledge it could be bricked.

* So far this season, I’ve found precisely one 3GA item (a sword with two good affixes).

They should’ve had Shaq promoting Season 4.

I rolled the only possible 'bad" affix on my last 8 level 12 masterworks. Does this count?

That itemization was an embarrassing meme since day 1 just might have been reason #1.

Ahhh, Barbarian tears are so tasty.

Let it flow…

they need to come up with some sort of re-roll process…this is becoming unsustainable.

Just keep taking that abuse. Eventually it will get better.

Given the current state of the game, and the proposed changes to tempering in S5, I may be a tempering apologist.

You don’t need great gear to push pit 101 unless you’re really trying to crank a weak build, so getting a temper on a 3/3 non-GA item isn’t hard, and if you brick a few, someone is probably willing to sell you a 3/3 non-GA for dirt cheap or just give it to you at this point.

If you do get some GA hits on a 3/3 it’s just icing on the cake if you’re able to hit on tempers.

With this system you have to change your mentality from, “oh, I found a great item” to, “nice, another chance to roll a great item”

What kind of logic is this for an ARPG (seasonal) video game though…

Your argument is, essentially, nothing matters in Diablo 4 because the game doesn’t require the items you are chasing.

So uhh…what’s the point of playing then?

You’re playing the game to chase the items. If you had all the items, what would be the point of playing?

Well confirmation bias is a thing. Sorry you had bad luck.

May the RNG gods be in your favor.

You can’t realistically get the items under the current systems though, unless you’re RMTing.

So again, what’s the point of playing if the goal is so far beyond what is reasonably possible?

What kind of person enjoys spinning their wheels for hundreds of hours only to lose the 1 useable item they’ve found in all of that time to a crafting system RNG error?

I just don’t understand anyone who would argue for this.

Edit: just to submit my own exprience – I have probably 100 played hours this season and I have found no useable 3 GA item, and I have bricked all but one 2 GA item.

It’s a balancing act. I agree that it’s unbalanced in the un-fun direction right now, but they’re moving that balance in the right direction next season (possibly not quite enough, but that remains to be seen).

The reason I don’t care about bricking as much as some people, is because I’m perfectly content with a 3/3 with 1 GA item with nice stats and decent temper rolls. And when I find a would-be upgrade, I accept that it isn’t an upgrade until it has hit on tempers.

I’m at the point now, where getting a potential upgrade could take over 20-30 hours of farming, and I’m just about done with the season. If tempering were easier, I may have hit this point sooner, because I would have geared out all the builds I wanted to play sooner.

I would probably prefer finding items with GA affixes be harder, and tempering easier, but in the current state of the game, it’s just not a big deal to me.

Sure, welcome to the club.
