This explains everything - wow

An architect is an artist, hoss. That’s what they do. There is no requirement that they be gamers.

They do not create the assets or any other art. It’s a very different thing.

You have to understand the game you are creating dungeons for.

Developers are basically the managers. Artists are the aesthetic workers. Level designers are people who put the landscapes and assets in the dungeons.

If I were an optimist, I would argue that the intention was to show the public “hey guys, anyone can have fun in D4, even if you’re casual. To prove it, here’s two people on the D4 staff who don’t even play these kinds of games very well!”

If I were a pessimist, I’d probably be mirroring the thoughts of Alexandros up there when he said it could be a ploy to throw a couple of “stereotypical-looking lefties” under the bus to ostensibly still pull the “anyone can play” angle, but also have that deflection built-in because they KNOW (and it’s already been proven around here, though most of the threads get deleted quickly) it’s going to rally the chops of the right wing, which will then cause blame to shift between the player base, instead of unified AT the devs.

The realist in me though, the pragmatist, is just shrugging my shoulders and shaking my head. I really don’t care, anymore, and THAT’s what should be scaring blizz the most.

The true death is neither love, nor hate. For they both come from the heart. The true death is Apathy. And I’m really starting to become totally uninterested.

My goodness, it’s literally on the video, " Adventure with a Dev", “Dungeon Designers”, they literally said they create dungeons.

I don’t think the optimist, pessimist, hardcore, softcore or any other type of gamer would look at that video and say fun. They are spamming one button, killing mobs at a snails pace and don’t even look like they are enjoying it.

I think it’s funny that people are taking this video at face value and some form of objective proof that the devs are clueless, when it’s nothing more than a PR stunt by some corporate suit at Activision.

I don’t think people understand what PR they were trying to achieve. I am honestly still clueless.

The issue is they claim to be gamers or average at games. They clearly had no clue how to play game. I suspect they don’t really play the game or understand how most play it. Overusing a basic ability and dying on WT1 in a group is shameful. Even ultra casuals would do better. That honestly looked like someone given a level 50 and 10 min of training.

Gesus…I came here to white knight a bit and rile ppl up…but this is unforgivable.

Imagine a chef having no idea what his/her food tastes like.

Yeah, I mean, that statement could encompass 95% of AAA games published by corporate titans in the game industry these days. None of us really understand why they make the decisions they do, but they do.

If I had to guess, they probably wanted to pull the diversity card the same way they do with Overwatch 2 whenever a controversy crops up.

Eh, the Senior Dungeon Designer deserves the criticism she is getting and then some. The one goal she expressly stated and has been echoed elsewhere, to not have to do a lot of back-tracking in dungeons, well uhm, sort of missed the mark on that one by a mile.

That’s probably what happened.

In fairness, if you gave me a level 50 rogue and said “here’s a quick run-down of your skills. You have 10 minutes and then the cameras roll” I’d probably not fare THAT much better. I’ve never played a rogue, I know literally nothing about that class except it can be melee or ranged, and “twisting blades is OP.” That’s all I know. I think they have traps?

I’d probably rely mostly on my knowledge of things I have done in the game. I’d probably use generators and spenders, use cooldowns, etc. But I wouldn’t look like a “god gamer” that’s for sure.

I am guessing you would use all 6 buttons.

That is fair. If you give me a hotbar with abilities on it I’m GOING to try them out at least once.

That’s where we are this point. Even the white knights cannot defend it anymore.

He is not wrong.

And this is not the fault of these newb developers in the video who cannot play the game they are developing, it’s the fault of the management that didn’t have the necessary foresight to see where this would go.

they probably wanted to pull the diversity card

Of course they did. It’s obvious in the first second of the video.
