The Tempering System is Supposed to Frustrate you. It is a feature, not a bug

The Developers are well aware of the community’s opinion on the system. They likely have been aware of the general frustrations with it since it was introduced on the PTR. They have made no moves to change, tweak, or modify the system. As far as they are concerned, it is working exactly as intended.

Speak for yourself and not on behalf of everyone, the tempering system is fine as it is, thanks to that you had a long season and the trade was a success, stop complaining about absurd things, we don’t want a game that is easier than it is.

I’ve never seen a “feature” that is so poorly implemented that after a month of grinding you find that amazing item, get that copium high, then follow it up with complete misery (brick) from a system you have zero control to change and it is weighted to roll affixes you would never want. All they need to do is let you pick the exact affix, keep the amount of rolls the same, and the item hunt can continue as you try to get an improved roll on the affix. This way you dont brick the item and the entire system isnt such a letdown. At this point it is a deal breaker for me. I will take a break from the game, try some others, and see if the devs are listening to feedback.

I disagree.

No, it isn’t.

Its just frustrating if you are expecting that crafting should be like the old times of “Hero Editor” where you could create/modify your weapon the way you want and get out of there with the best possible item.

Crafting isn’t supposed to give you the best gear on your first try.
You are not entitled to get the best just because you found a good item.

Just this.
If you don’t expect to have perfection on your first try, it won’t disappoint you.

It’s never frustrated me.

You cant always get everything you want the first try, but I do empathize with the entitled clicker generation. Instant gratification is a tough drug to overcome.

Yeah, its good. The could tighten up the manuals tho.

This isnt true. They are uping the limit by 1x per ga on the pc of gear.

Its not frustration but entitlement issues.

This is not true. They are making changes next season. Did you not know that or are you intentioanlly lying?

There is a thread where this is proven false. Dont spread misinformation.

It’s a gamble.
You can hunt for the BiS affix with a 20% chance to hit, or pick a manual where most if not all outcomes are decent.

Huh. So have we identified the first non-store feature to actually work as intended in D4?

You’re right, and I hate it. These games are designed to manipulate our psychology. Gambling is addicting.

My wife is already the best at that; I don’t need it in a game.

You make a feature that serves only to punish players by their own actions with no ability to mitigate or influence it. The psychological manipulation of intentionally weighting the desirable tempers way less than the undesirable ones is malicious. The people defending it are your target audience with a system like this. Trash eaters willing to be abused so their addictive tendency towards gambling can give them the dopamine hits that are no longer present in their regular life.

For normal people this is bad, it feels bad.

Crafting recipes are how they’re typically referred to if you’re doing crafting. Because crafting is not a gambling simulator, it’s a recipe you follow to get the intended outcome. There may be degrees of success based on your skill or inputs derived from your persistent skills or resources.

Tempering is gambling. There is no skill, there are no inputs. You select your bet, and pull the slot machine lever to receive your disappointment You might as well move it to the oddities vendor and get it out of the smith shop.

Its not supposed to frustrate you. This is just a type of entitlement. The so called silver spoon in the mouth.

The feature is supposed to be challenging - and it truly is. I am happy with it, as it is. 3GA items, which are not needed to “complete” the game or the build, and getting the right temper-affixes on it are super super rare and thats how its supposed to be. Every game has these items, and every game has its own way to work with it.

Its a challenge, but most people dont like a challenge. They want to breeze through the game and have / get everything easy. They want people to create the builds for them, and then whine because there is no endgame (which they reached while just over 60% of the game’s experience and flair.

Its a never ending topic. Because people will never stop whining, even if they do get what they want (mostly because they dont even know what they want to have. oh the irony)

Again, this is false. Why do people keep making up lies about this?

The poster in that thread is biased and not a developer. I don’t trust them.

If a dev wants to declare all the weighting is exactly the same, they can do so. It doesn’t change it being a malicious gambling mechanic mildly disguised as a crafting system.

One idea I saw was give World Bosses a new material on drop that can be used to add 1 additional Temper attempt. I feel like that would still keep the spirit of the system intact while also giving people a way to handle these poorly weighted Affixes. Like the fact that you can even roll a duplicate affix is just short sighted and stupid. Bad game design.

The frustration occurs when you have a good item and the Smith gives you the same temper 2-3 times in a row! The system is not as random as it should be. This has been very common issue for me.

How is it malicious? Just stop with the sad melodramatic nonsense. Its a silly video game its not that serious. Whats funny is even when presented with data, some of you put your heads in the sand. Its always amazing how strongly some people will hold onto their ignorance.

Your 2500 posts are a mirror that you can’t seem to look into. This game must be a runaway success in your eyes, flawlessly designed and in the eyes of their creator, a true gem of action RPG’s. Keep your profile hidden, it makes it more obvious how biased your opinions are.
