how is the rogue softer than a spell caster? rogues live a tough life, but somehow this dude is feather soft, while the sorcerer and the necromancer (both classes that are based around book and spell learning) and rock hard crowd controllers? the rogue doesnt do enough dps to be this soft. i cant solo any dungeon in the game. is anyone else hving this problem?
i def feel squishy compared to my friend who is barb of same level (60) but my dps is insane to the point he’s constantly wanting to group up now bc i just melt stuff. I have a maxrolled disobedience aspect and the siphoning strikes passive is constantly healing me if you have high enough crit. I can face tank most stuff that isn’t an explosion on death effect stacked up or some other one hit mechanic. What level are you ? what skills ?
i definitely agree that the dps is top notch, but it is just too squishy. needs a small armor and life buff. just a small one would do the trick.
my main is rapid shot, and i took the vulnerability perks (create vul and benefit from it for resource and life regen) but since only my basic creates vulnerability i need a spell caster or barb to run with so i can get those heals. and since the game levels up with you, there is little expectation that it will get better with paragon points. i just made 51.
Play furry.
I’ve been playing with a group this whole time and I’ll go off in a different direction and solo in nightmares with mobs 20 levels higher than me and I mostly just face tank stuff.
If you like the idea of standing in the middle of elites and them not being able to kill you then you have that option
I think in most RPGs rogues are typically more “fragile” than casters. But this is off-set with the ability to go invisible.
It’s mostly because people are fixated on dps, dps, moar dps!
You need to take some of the survivability options. It will mean a little less dps, but dead equals zero dps.
You’re building it wrong!
Add me in game, I’m 74 Rogue (Hardcore) and I’m solo-clearing 4 man, tier 4 content for my group!
I will show you the way!

(Feeling ready to share my OP Rogue build - Anyone know a good website to create a guide?)
Rogue feels fine untill you hit lvl 50 + nightmare dungeons, then it’s just one shot after one shot . ( twisting blades)
what build are you using? because if i stray from the group i get smashed. i die 4 or 5 times every dungeon when i run with a group. even in dungeons below my level.
@mudshadow that is not my experience. think about skyrim. or dnd casters are squishy because of lifestyle. rogues lead a rough life and becasue of that should be a bit tougher than a caster. that is how i feel about it tho.
Rogue tankiness is Cc and mobility. You need to be constantly kiting, dashing and shadowstepping.
Depending on on what build you are playing the CC is what keeps us alive. It’s the trade off for high damage.
i have now spent all of my gold respecing this character at level 51 and i still cannot get it to hit hard enoug that i can leave town by myself. this is trash.
How about you share what build you are running?
Clearly other people can make the character work so unfortunately it’s a you problem. You picked a squishy but high DPS character play style, so what’s the complaint when that’s what you got?
i am using the marksman skills.
rapidshot, and rain of arrows with emphasis on making vulnerable, and using it to recharge my energy. shadow imbuement helps with that alot.
the problem i am having is not the amount of damage i can do it is the fact that literally any mob has the ability to overpower me.
also all of my gear is legendary and fully upgraded.
Again you’re just focusing on your damage portion and complaining about being squishy. What steps have you taken to make yourself resilient?
Do you run Sturdy, Rugged, Reactive Defense, Agile, or Dark Shroud? Max Health, Damage Reduction, or Armor attributes on your equipment? What gems do you use?
For instance run a melee build so I use study and siphoning strikes + temerity to shield and heal, plus I run shadow step and dash to break out of CC and get out of there when there are too many enemies. I go Topaz on equip, skulls on jewelry. Some of my items have damage reduction from enemies at a distance, others have max life so I don’t get one shot. I’m at level 75 doing tier 26 dungeons and barely struggling.
i am using all of the damage reduction and life buffs and they are maxed out. i am buffing health and damage reduction every chance i get. it doesnt matter. any world mob in any area has the ability to wipe me out in just a few seconds. i have now spend 2 mil gold respecing this character to make it work. i have used people’s suggestions, and even abandoned the build and switched it to a melee build, results got worse.
i have been playing diablo since 97, i should not behaving these problems.
Dang, since 1997?! Sorry, I didn’t realized we were talking to a pro gamer. You definitely have the correct build and equipment by the sounds of it I’m just a casual so ignore me. You’re absolutely right! Rogue is literally unplayable - No builds work, no one is having any fun! Blizzard should just refund everyone the cost and time wasted!
thanks for trolling, it is keeping the thread in the algorithm and making it more likely that blizzard will think my opinion is popular. im not suggesting the character is unplayable, im suggesting that it needs a small buff to armor and life.
but please keep the thread alive, it only helps me…
It’s like the monk when D3 released. Too squishy, no defense no agility since the TW nerf and too weak to be able to survive monster packs. This class is a mess and doesn’t make fun anymore.
The problem is that rogue doesn’t have much in the way of DR that comes from the class or it’s mechanics. We have 3 defense related passives that provide 15% DR vs Close, 15% DR vs Poisoned, and 12% Dodge for 3 seconds after using a cooldown.
We also have Dark Shroud that provides a nice chunk of DR, but is removed so quickly it has very little up time. There are so many ranged mobs floating around and if you happen to get surrounded due to mobs appearing like mole people they disappear instantly.
We don’t have easy access to producing the status effects that reduce incoming damage. Chilled would be fantastic if it also slowed attack speed of the mobs and not just movement speed. Our cold imbue doesn’t chill enough baseline to freeze enemies after the second cast of your imbued skill. You have to combo several moves together to introduce stunned in most cases.
We also have very little sustain available in our class kit. Once skill provides a minor healing and a passive provides a little more. We also don’t have access to barriers or the fortify mechanic through class abilities.
There are some great defensive aspects but nearly all of them are available to every class.
i feel like ther eis nothing wrong with the skill tree, maybe just the values are too soft? im not sure exactly what the solution is, but i know that there is something wrong with the class.
