Tempering sucks

So here is the mandatory tempering temper tantrum.
I just bricked my third ring after using up the last scroll and I feel sad and very irritated.

This will make me quit and I hate it.
Please fix this very bad mechanic as it shadows over all that is good and takes over the over all experience and it sucks.

Just needed to vent or I feel I would just rage quit.

vent all you want… i needed to do this too haha

but for the love of the game, devs… get rid of your stupid gambling!!!

fearing to do something because you know the chances are abysmal in a game is NOT a good thing…

If you dont like RNG perhaps arpgs are not for you and thats ok.

D4 is simple and casual.

If it’s the same as it was last season then it’s fine imo. I think people who brick often are chasing perfect rolls. If you just settle for the correct affix at whatever it rolls then it’s really difficult to brick an item.

This is exactly it. I think I’ve bricked like 3 items total and they weren’t even top GA legendaries… so I didn’t really give af.

If you’re ok with “+110%” on that “+100% - +115%” temper… you’ll be fine.

If you chase 115% on everything you’re gonna brick a ton of items.

There’s nothing wrong with tempering.

my items brick without even giving me the temper i want, i bricked 3 gloves trying to roll a 1:3 chance for basic damage and not once in the 10 tempers on each gloves did it roll. rng or not that is just bullcrap

the least they can do is let the scroll allow you to reset your tempers more than once.

Get everything right on your set of gear, then chase higher rolls on alternate gear you come across while playing the game. Never brick a usable piece of gear that will break your build, even it if isn’t optimized. Another piece will drop to tinker with.

Tempering and Masterworking Solution:

Tempering can be solved by preventing all bricking → Tempering 2.0 = Tempering 2.0 🔨
Tempering can also be improved by allowing keeping of previous rolls which lines it up with occultist.

Masterworking can be solved by an additional system added to current RANDOM crit system. This system will be called the FIXED crit system.
The FIXED system lets you choose your masterwork crits but you pay way more. You will pay what the average is to hit those crits on RANDOM system so it could be 100k or more but there is no variance. You always get what you want.
You cant mix systems and instead can only choose a new method on a reset. You may reset the FIXED system at any point.

OP is right. Bricking is quite difficult but it does happen. Now imagine you are the player not getting a ton of great gear from trading or such. You finally get that great ring and then brick it. He has a right to be mad because this system has flaws. Even with the changes Bliz did with scroll and GA adding tempers. They keep adding ways to circumvent their own system which means it needs an overhaul.

RNG is fine… bad RNG layered on top of more bad RNG with a punishing system for it failing is not.

Look at something like D3’s “Upgrade to Ancient” at the cube… a fairly boring 10% that can fail 70 times in a row (on live my record fail streak is 71, 83 on the PTR) but… and here’s the important point… you never destroy the item. Why the need to destroy items that are already low chance drops?

Allow players to choose affixes to temper, with increased materials going up to 50x or even 100x, to align with the business analyst’s idea of retaining players for a longer period.

Make tempering meaningful on important gear. Players will appreciate it and be motivated to grind for the materials, as everything is carefully considered and invested towards achieving a goal.

This will be win-win situation for both players and the studio intention to keep player base.

So, better to grind for more gold and mats you’ll eventually get than another perfect piece of gear you may never see again. Makes sense, but should we, as players, never lose? Bricking only ever really affects those pushing limits. I like dire consequences for greater rewards. If there is no permanent repercussion people will just endlessly invest in upgrades and the game becomes a mat farming exercise just like D3.

This is basically what is already happening. ITs very difficult to brick anything but this does not mean its still not an issue because just 1% of the base bricking stuff is still tens of thousands of players.

One simple change to help us would be just make it work like enchanter. Can keep previous rolls.

Is either the players grind with satisfaction or frustration where every season players putting up their middle finger to the devs.

Either way can be done to retend player base, why not choose the positives one?

Whether in a fantasy or real world, as long as logic applies, how can a blacksmith randomly temper things?
Would it make sense if a workshop tempered your car with a pair of wipers, but your intention was to add suspension springs, and you had already paid for the springs.

Its not layered nor are you punished. You simply got an incomplete item and completed it. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesnt, but most of the time it does.

We arnt playing the same game. Loot rains from the sky. Ive never seen so many 2 and 3ga drops.

D4 barely has any friction at all with how oversimplified everything has become.

Simple changes could improve player experience like tempers following occultist and keeping previous rolls. Why not have occultist end at 10 enchants and then item locks then? Do players want more of this? No ofcaorse they dont. The entire base would revolt because its terrible. That is what tempering is. A bad system where the badness has been bandaided with scrolls and extra temper rerolls. If your solution to a known problem is bypass that system as much as possible then is it really a solution?

Not always, imagine you expend all of your tries without getting the first affix you need, you then face the situation where you have only one reset before bricking the item and the same number of attempts to get not just 1 affix you need, but the 2 of them.

That is not cool at all.
And what about if you only have a magic or rare tempering that it is usefull? It is already happening to me and I don’t want to temper because they are not legendary and I risk bricking the item.

If you like the system so much here is a solution for you. If they change the system you can keep it as usualy and scrap the item once you tempred it 6 times.

There is no need to annoy so many people with this absolut :dog2: :poop: mechanic.

Been saying this for many seasons.
It’s probably one of the top reason why I wont play this season.

Whatever the rng its crap. Noway should ypu roll same thing every roll. Thats bogus. Has happened tp me numerous times already. If bricked bc rolled everything but what i needed is one thing but the same roll everytime is bs. Not rng

Honestly the thing I get annoyed by more is tempering while leveling. I’ve gotten to the point where I don’t bother, gear is replaced too quickly and it’s just time consuming.
