My machine can run any game on ultra settings but somehow Diablo 4 is stuttering like crazy and no other game has this problem. I’m running Diablo 4 on max settings with DLSS disabled.
I have captured the video evidence of this, showing that I had very low ping, and you can watch it here:
Youtube - Diablo IV 2023 06 05 11 - Stuttering
I have tried everything suggested in other posts and nothing works:
disable devices in device manager (enumerators)
increase the page size of the system from 9GB to 30GB
disable background apps and capture software
This is clearly a poor optimization of the game. I bet that the problem is the lack of optimization when streaming to the graphics card the higher texture quality in the background. I say this because the only thing that improves slightly the stuttering is decreasing the texture quality from max to medium… which let’s be honest is unacceptable.
What else can I provide to help debug and fix this issue?
Start with a cap of 60FPS. (we can increase this in small amounts later)
Disable DLSS.
Disable Reflex.
Disable Peripheral Lighting.
Use defaults for the quality settings. If not sure, reset to defaults then set suggestions above. We can then make small changes from here, once we have it stable.
Note, these are to try to get you to a starting point where it should work. Try setting to the above, then restarting the game and see if it plays any better. If so play it for a while with these settings. see if its any better for a long session.
Then, you can start with small changes. FPS I know everyone wants higher, but don’t exceed your monitor refresh rate. No point in it. And with how D4 plays, you honestly won’t need a high FPS anyway and keeping it lower does ease the load on your GPU.
I appreciate the feedback, but we don’t need luck… We need a fix for the game. I have all the settings you listed above, it did nothing. Still just as terrible and even starts in on high settings after a while, leading me to believe it’s probably a memory leak on Nvidia cards.
I uploaded over an hour of my game session last night, just to show the game actually does run fine for many players:
The description contains my full system specs, settings and such as well as on-screen stats of card performance and connection latency. This isn’t meant to be a jab or anything, just trying to show one that works well and how its setup. That’s all.
Playback after being recorded into a video looks janky as hell, its much smoother live, but otherwise you get the idea.
FYI. Is it me, or do you hear the Female Demon Hunter in the beginning speaking from Guylas? lol
the differences between our machines are negligible. I have a 3080, i9-10850k, but DDR4 ram and windows 10. Still, I don’t see how either of those would cause stuttering problems. I have more VRAM than you do, so the stuttering shouldn’t be VRAM management related. Are you playing on ultra settings with the high res texture pack?
Apparently the Ultra texture setting is too much for 3080’s without 12 GB VRAM. The FE only has 10. A lot (but not all) of my stuttering goes away when I reduce texture quality to High.
yeah ive had this all afternoon/evening also. im also doing way less damage than normal for whatver reason, maybe a lot of ‘hits’ aren’t actually registering due ot the stuttering or some sorcery…
that was when i could actually log in. im just watching streamers on the streamer servers which are up kekw
the stuttering is everytime theres a large pack, or when i pop my shouts and try to whirlwind.
edit: managed to log in finally, but yeah stuttering and input lag remains, abilities not firing, teleporting, rubberbanding, whirlwind only hitting enemies once every second so im doing bugger all damage. (still taking it at normal rate it seems)
Have you tried turning off “Browser hardware acceleration” in the blizzard launcher? No kidding this fixed the stutters like this I was getting. Google other youtube vids on it. Stupid problem, stupid fix but there it is. Try that and see if it makes a difference. Did for me.
