State of the Game: almost 2 years in

TLDR: Game is still flat-garbage but Blizzard is determined to make it flatter and improve the smell of the garbage.

Developement decisions are being made in a void. Void of player input and logic. I used to enjoy saving my boss materials for the weekends to power my friends through boss encounters in hopes that I could see one of them pick up the one Mythic they need to complete their build. Blizzard removed this completely with very little fore thought put into how this would impact players and them enjoying the game with friends. Their reasoning? Fairness. It was always unfair to my friends when I saved up my boss mats for the weekends to help other players with their progression.

RNG is still broken. Since tempering and Masterworking were introduced, blizzards inability to code RNG has been on bold display. I have a temper that has 3 different outcomes. 7 Times in a row it lands on +armor. Reset it with a scroll. 5 more times it lands the same. This is not RNG. THis is either broken or purposely coded to not give what it thinks you want. If you want a good RNG game go play BG3.

Why do Infernal Hordes still have Soul Spires? No one likes these. When I complained about these in the past I was told you have to have bad parts of the game so you can appreciate the good parts. Are you kidding me? Why not try to make the entire game fun instead of just part of it? So stupid.

2 years of unfixable bugs. Game crashes/locks up 20% of the time loading. Infernal hordes not showing what wave it is. Not showing ember counts. Things not showing on the map.

Developements best imagined way to increase difficulty: Mobs with massive health pools and/or “Damage resistence” and bosses with forced immunity phases.

Season difficulty Ppprogression feels “off” this season. Seasonal rewards being burried deaper in a non responsive laggy interface and visual (VFX INCLUDED OMG STOP WITH THIS) armor changes of “LETS PUT HORNS ON EVERYTHING” is just stupid. There are gloves with horns on them folks.

Yes I know this is all subjective and full disclosure I should not be able to post here because during Wow Cata I received a life time ban from support because I verbally abused an in game Game-Master in Wow… But the number of Stockholm Syndrome afflicted Sycophants for blizzard in these forums makes me want to repeatedly punch myself in the Twig-and-berries.

It seems to me you have anger issues, and that anger is misplaced.

Do you get mad at the mailman when you get a bill or jury duty notice?

No cap OP is right it’s like a skeleton team is working on this game. I mean season 8 is a slugfest. it’s a spectacular failure of dimensions

in fact, the devs are more focused on exploiting this franchise to milk the cow and thrive on microtransactions rather than buffing up the quality of the game.

You lose credibility in the first line of your post and I don’t even need to read the rest (but I did it anyways).
Some of the people on these forums need to play a bad game once in their life.
The game has millions of flaws, mostly due to the fact that it has been going through an identity crisis for the first 2 years of its life, but it’s far from the garbage some of you make it seem to be.

The change to boss mats was a good change IMO.
RNG is not broken, it is very clearly weighed, but it is not broken, just a (bad) design choice. If they want to have a weighed RNG, then the UI should be transparent on the weigh of each option.
I don’t mind the soul spires in helltides.
Too many bugs on that I agree. But they are also changing the whole game twice a year or so. So that will happen. They should have stopped the seasons to do some polish for a while, but management being management…
Difficulty was almost fine in early seasons when the pace was slower, but some people did not like it because they could not blast through things fast enough, so now it became the health pool design and it got out of hands. I blame streamers for this one.
The armor set design is down to personal preference. I think the base game has the best cosmetics and that anything in the shop/battle pass is way too flashy. Some like it.

Your ability to not understand RNG doesn’t behave nicely in small sample sizes doesn’t mean the RNG is broken. I did a large scale test… 800 rolls of the same temper on the same item type and found the RNG was actually quite good. Streaky but within the expected range. What I didn’t expect to find was the temper options are weighted. So instead of 33/33/33 it was 40/30/30 for the temper I tested.

An additional problem is it’s incredibly easy to go 8, 10, or even more without getting the 1 in 3 temper you want. It’s even worse with 1 in 4 or the few 1 in 5 tempers. So the max of 7 and 7 attempts (with the scrolls) is still too small. It’s a clunky system that needs transparency and better ways for players to save that once-in-a-season 4 GA item from bricking. But it’s not bad RNG that’s the culprit.

Tempering and masterworking really hinder fun in this game. It makes upgrading, one of the funniest things in the game, completely suck. I feel it even more this season, I have no idea why they wanted to make upgrading gear a horrible task. The game was better in S0, imo.

Thats right, soon you will miss season 0 that used to be the worst slog of all.

Was it? Everything was new, so I experienced it differently. I don’t know if pace is the issue. Things just feel bad like tempering and masterworking. In S0 I only had to equip the items for them to be upgrades. I prefer that.

The RNG in tempering could be bugged sometimes as computer cant generate true RNG result as it operate based on deterministic. The RNG is called pseudo RNG which use certain software algorithm to simulate RNG.

I usually TP to another town when the blacksmith give me 3 same affix in a row. Very rare I brick my item by using this approach.

When you say the dev purposely coded them to not give you what it thinks you want. How the dev know you want which affix? As all affix is associate with the builds you want to make, they will have equal weight. Unless the dev can read your mind before the season start and spend hundred hours to put a weight on thousands affix in the game related tempering and masterworking. The dev already has a simple mechanism to pull your leg, which is the cost of masterworking. They can adjust it from time to time with minimum effort if they decided you are progressing too fast.

D4 makes me crave D3, grind with the boys and push GRs. Way more fun than this one week meaningless gameplay loop D4 offers.
